So You Have A Real Bigfoot

Have to agree on the bones. Lighter, no cooler required, and proves the species as well as a body. Meldrum says skull, femur or pelvis, and forearms would be enough to define the speicies and prove it bipedal. Prove existence then let the professional scientist risks their skin getting a specimen. Quite frankly, I think that aspect would be very amusing. They might actually have to talk to those with BF experience to figure out how to get anywhere near a BF. Then the nature channels are going to be beating the bushes for someone with experience to guide their crews in the get video of the mythical creature. Sadly TS will be there to step up to the plate along with everyone else with dollar signs in their eyes.

Dry ice would be a better way to freeze it, you would have to have alot of it, its not that easy to get in huge bulk loads though. I would not freeze it in water, it would take a week to get it all frozen total mess.

Its still a total mess, makes me think of just going for the bones, a BF skeleton would still fetch a good sum, and you could do the hide, and try to preserve some of the meat.

Its a big project for sure, needs half dozen people, that 3 million is going to get whittled down fast.

Actually, it is not all that difficult to get dry ice in bulk.  I used to purchase extruded dry ice the consistency of rice 1500 pounds at a time, and it would be delivered in large insulated boxes.  I used to do dry ice blasting.  I usually had to order it, and in a couple days it would be delivered 350 miles away.

Rent a box reefer truck for a couple weeks, put in container, add water, freeze, add BF, more water, and freeze.  Perfectly preserved.  Need it a couple more weeks - not a problem.

Dry ice would destroy tissue. It would hard freeze and freezer burn the tissue with ice crystals destroying cell walls. Fine for tenderizing steaks you ship across country but not so good for lab exploration. Would be better to use regular ice to keep tissue damage to a minimum and whoever gets it in the lab could start dissection immediately without trying to thaw out 800 lbs of very hard ape man. Glad I did not have this conversation before doing field work today. If BF can read minds, I might have been in trouble.

Just take the head, hands and or feet. Takes up less space. If you have a chunk of it, never refer to it as a "Bigfoot Steak".

Nope way bigger project that most pro-kill people seem to want to admit it is. Most seem to want to equate it to nothing more complicated than an elk hunt.

No need to try and discourage anyone out of anything.

A Bigfoot head would do just fine to make it official. You can't expect to please everyone.

If people want more then they can put forth the effort from there.

I would try to take the body in it's entirety. Even though you may not need all of it, in order to prove existence, it would be much more valuable to science, if its entire biological system was intact.

I've noticed many people have mentioned they would simply donate the body top science.

There's way too much money involved to simply donate the body. I think I could get upward of $200M plus, over a few years, as well as still offer the body for scientific research and species protection.

It would be insanity to just give it away. Regardless of the institution, whoever has the body, will find a way to market and profit from it.

For example, I would charge any major university, $250,000 for a one hour "viewing" of the body , without any dissection and accompanied by a security team and a biologist under my employ. Tissue samples would be made available, at an additional cost. Universities would be given preference over private organizations. Private organizations would have to pay twice as much and would only be allowed to view the body, once the universities have been satiated.

I would retain all marketing rights and would trademark whatever name I gave it.

A lot of the revenue created from the body would be used for conservation, lobbying and public awareness. A body would revolutionize the public view of our national parks and forests. Overnight, interest in these creatures would go through the roof; resulting in fear and misunderstanding. I would invest in public information campaigns, across newspapers, television  networks and, of course, social media and the internet.

^^^^^^ All well and good but at some point some state or federal agency is going to confiscate it because they think they need it more than you do. When that happens, you better have extensive proof that you had it in the first place. Otherwise you will just be joining the Justin Smeja club of lost opportunity or unsubstantiated claims.

Find a  buyer in Japan, that will pay a million bucks, and keep it a secret forever. Getting the money would be the challenge though, as well as finding a qualified buyer, and getting the body out of the country would not be easy, but I suppose the buyer can figure that out. Body parts have been spotted in the wild BTW, but you have to be at the right place, right time.

Wouldn't have to go that far.  Go to Vegas and visit the casinos.  They'd pay a real fortune.

Me?  I'm a bit more mercenary.  I don't hunt these things, and I don't even like these things.  But I'd at least try to get a full body MRI scan, have the gut pile transferred onto tissue slides - hundreds and hundreds of them - and I'd have an auction.

Highest bidder.  And he can deal with it.

I'll be in the Holiday Inn Express.

To answer you question directly, I would take it back to where it died, take it out of my truck and respectfully place it where it died, take a few pics and some hair samples, do a few tree knocks so its family can tend to him/her, pray for my life, and get the heck out as fast as possible.

However, that is not your real question.  What you are really asking is how you can you maximize the monitization of a dead BF?  Clearly you have given it a lot of thought because you have correctly concluded the real value is not in what a PT Barnum type would pay you for it as a prop, but the value in its DNA to the biomedical industry.  Sure, Terry Benedict may pay you a cool million for a BF body as a way to lure suckers in to his casino.  But you could probably get a billion if you could figure out from the DNA how a human can run a sub 4.0 40, bench 800, and have the vision to connect 33% of the time on a 95 MPH fast ball and 85 MPH major league big breaker in the dark.  However, as you have alluded in the thread, none of this is happening in the open without the approval of "The authorities" as they can and will oppose you every step of the way.

Honestly, it is a tall order.  There are easier ways to make a buck.

Ideally, you would take the time to make molds of every bone, enabling any anthropology department to purchase at a very reasonable cost their own duplicate skeleton for study.  Also take molds after the skin has been removed to enable a duplicate of the body mass, and then any talented wax museum-type can duplicate the hair-on, enabling a skeleton, a muscular body, and a full hair on body, all side by side.

There are people who will pay seven million for one of forty cars, five million for a tintype, and so on, and the auction market for a privately owned critter would be worth a fair amount at an auction.

The gut pile would be worth a considerable amount as well, if the tissues are in the form of prepared tissue slides.

Ideally, one would bag two, or even better, three.  One for auction, one for the State of Texas, and one to be donated to the Great Britain Museum of Natural History.  Unlike the Smithsonian, the find will be properly prepared and properly presented to the public.

I'm pragmatic.  It's just a fault of mine I really do nothing to improve on.

Lets not stop there.  Don't forget the book and movie rights.  Perhaps you film the whole thing with a gopro and get their endorsement as well.  Since you are the first one to actually getting a BF, you ought to be able to take over the whole cottage market around hunting BFs on TV.  Destination America would immediately make you the face of their of network.  There is an endless stream of money to be made if you put your mind to it.

Yeah, a GoPro filming of a Bigfoot kill would sure make the monster bucks they kill on TV seem pretty mundane.  I would take lots of good photos and work up a new line of Sasquatch camo. Also, a new cable series-"Finding Bigfoot, Killing Bigfoot, and Marketing Bigfoot."

Lets see 9 foot tall bigfoot 4 feet wide at the shoulders and about 2 feet front to back equals a 9x4x4 waterproof box filled with ice to get a two foot deep layer of ice to cover the chest. Lets guess and use the 800 lb number for the weight of the BF, and assume it fills half the volume of the box. So the volume of the box is 144 cubic feet and half of that is 72 cubic feet. A cubic foot of ice weighs 57.2 lbs. That is 4118 lbs for 72 cubic feet of ice or 4918 lbs for the bigfoot and ice, not counting the weight of the box. That would put the cargo load for a truck at over two tons which is beyond the capability of the largest pickups. So you need some sort of 3 or 4 ton delivery truck to carry the thing around. And some sort of crane or hoist to get it in the box and in the truck too.

A full size "1ton" truck has a much greater payload than 5000 lbs. Even my old 94 Chevy 3500 can haul well over 3 tons.

A winch or a come along can easily get it in the truck. Even a rope and a pulley and a few stout branches would do the trick, if you know what you are doing. I've done that with an 800 lb hog before. And if you have your truck, unless you are in Alaska or northern Canada, you're never more than a day's drive away from someplace you could get more ice. Also, a refer truck is not THAT difficult to acquire. The hauling of the body is not the biggest hurdle imo, it's who to trust the evidence with. That's why you dissect it and spread the evidence across as many scientists and universities as possible. Document, document, document - photos, video, verify date on video (have sassy hold up a newspaper). Send the video to as many media sources as possible. You have to operate as if big brother will shut you down, so you have to get evidence to as many people as possible. It's more difficult to quiet the masses than it is a few individuals.

Book and movie rights?  That would be pittance.

I'm not a bigfoot enthusiast, not a bigfoot hunter, and if I undertake the task, it will be done right and guaranteed to bring one, and hopefully more than one in.  If I'm going to invest three months of my life - I expect to get paid - thus an auction.

I think it would be nice to provide microscope slides of the various tissues and organs to scientists and researchers to study.  They cut those microscope tissue samples really thin so there would be plenty available.  Likely send multiple samples to several Universities at no charge to ensure the existence and understanding would not be covered up as would be possible if only one organization controls the entire critter.

I further think that Universities and even museums may be interested in being able to show an exact duplicate of the skeleton - a practice already available with Neanderthal, Australopithicus variations, Cro-Magnons, and other skulls that look exactly like the originals.

A complete documentation of the three month endeavor, providing hours of actual bigfoot video in high resolution would be much more expensive than a simple hunt to kill.  Not much cheaper, but certainly a hundred thousand cheaper.  The right technologies and the right approach is downright time consuming, and thus very expensive.

So yeah, there would have to be a payday.  Daddy always taught me to never leave any money on the table.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'd be on the Nod plan, send out chunks to as many universities as possible as quick as possible let them prepare their own slides. Hundreds.

To get it disseminated rapidly is going to cost you an arm and a leg.... literally. But there's 2 of each.

Maybe with the chunks I'd ask for a proposal for study, short deadline, involving as many disciplines as possible and as many different institutions as possible (They are rivals but they do sorta co-operate on big science.)

Press involvment is ticklish, you want a lot of CYA, but on the other hand you've got to keep them hungry, one day wonders get forgotten.
