I'm a little dismayed, /a/ is pronounced ah as in "fAther" /i/ is pronounced ee as in "kIwI" and /u/ is pronounced oo as in "sUe".

So the answer would be two, and out of three that ain't bad.;)

So this is my key to analysis and quantification of my perception of these sounds in the recordings.

Perceptual salience results from the convergence of two

formant frequencies, yielding spectral peaks (Fant 1960) (fig.

2).

1. For the second and third formants, F2 and F3, converge

at a high frequency;

2. for [a], F2 and F1 converge at the midpoint

of the frequency spectrum;

3. for , F1 and F2 converge

at a low frequency
