I found these hind deer legs in northern Minnesota, both broken.  The breaks are spiral fractures.  In order to get a spiral fracture, the bones need to be twisted.  In order to twist, thumbs are required (and tremendous strength).  I have come across this multiple times.

The next question, does this happen naturally? There was a research paper on this and the answer is yes rarely, and only under very limited conditions.  Those conditions require a sun baked hard pan surface where bones were stepped on by large ungulates causing twisting breaks.  These bones were found in a bog and as you can see, are sitting on sphagnum moss.  

Anyone else find similar evidence?

I will add that I'm also looking for access to these locations for an overnight investigation. Or at least a couple hours at night. I can certainly maintain your privacy, I'm just concerned about collecting data.

Turns out, there are tens of millions of giant squid in the oceans, plenty enough to support the current Sperm Whale population. Only a few years ago (literally, like 2024) we thought them near extinction, and had never filmed a live one except under extremely unusual accidental conditions or the few washed up on beaches or caught stuck to the mouth of a whale mid-meal.

Now we can film them any time we want.

The secret? Changing the light used to film the deep.

This is an analogous situation to sasquatch, just in case you were wondering why I'm talking about giant squid.

Are there anything like this already in existence? Ones that included a variety of different regions samples? I can't say what Dr Disotell does with the data he sees sample by sample,  It seems like Dr Sykes threw out half at the get go then destroyed the rest after he proclaimed the resurgence of the Himalayan grizzly(or was it a polar bear)

It just strikes me there's bound to be distinctive commonalities within all these samples , which if fully charted out could at least lend itself to some degree, towards some form of classification or taxonomic placement, or at least "oh yeah, that goes in that pile over there..." 

Of course this is presuming the government doesn't grab up any samples of significance and already "doesn't have any such data bank  whatsoever! Thank you very much"!

I'm surprised that this doesn't have a thread yet.  It seems tangentially relevant.  This line I found interesting:

That's right folks, all started with a blobmonkey!

I estimate that a 800 lbs mammal is going to need roughly 8800 calories per day to maintain its body weight.

A 400 lbs silverback gorilla eats roughly 40 lbs of vegetation (plus a small percentage of insect protein) per day.

What would the caloric intake of say a family of 5 Sasquatch be per day? Approaching 50k right? Or in vegetation consumed terms it's right about (80 lbs or double gorilla daily intake X 5) 400 lbs per day per family troupe.

Thats a lot of veggies.

4 oz of meat equals 170 calories, so 1 lbs equals 680 calories. So a 200 lbs deer represents 136000 calories, not counting the loss of bone and or antler weight. 8800 cal X 5 equals 44000 calories. So a average sized deer represents roughly 3 days worth of meals for a family of five.

Thats roughly 121 deer per year or 24333 lbs of annual meat consumed.

In the Virunga range trackers follow mountain gorillas around by the swath of vegetational destruction they leave behind. These gorillas are like lawn mowers constantly moving along the mountain side. Family troupes up to 20 all feeding together. They also recieve some protein eating insects.

Of course gorillas can forage all year long in Africa. North America is a different story is most regions minus some gulf states and west coast. So if your caching food stores all summer for the winter months? A conservative estimate minus spoilage and increased caloric winter need, would be doubling the daily 400 lbs of vegetation collected to 800 lbs per family. 

Gorillas spend 60 % of their day simply chewing their food. That doesn't leave a lot of time to sleep, mate, play, teach babes and collect food for winter months for a Bigfoot.

Meat must play a heavy role in winter time. But the snow is crunchy, the background is white, the leaves have fallen. Not good ambushing. So they must either store plant material away or hibernate. But Apes don't hibernate that we are aware of.

Anyhow just some crunching data in my mind tonight.

I'll kick it off with my group's most recent one, today, Sunday, July 15th.

Our usual small group of 4 has made a number of trips into the field in the past year, some to investigate sightings, and others to look for evidence, and today's was a combination of both. Our first objective was to visit the scene of a sighting that was just recently reported to Thomas by an acquaintance of his from the Harrison Lake region. Unfortunately, it occurred about a year ago, so there was no expectation of finding any hard evidence, but we did want to check out the site to get a feel for the story. The witness had been canoeing on a small lake about 5km north of Hwy 7, between Mission and Hope, and reported seeing a large dark figure cross a rocky area at the north end of the lake. That was all we knew of the event as we drove to that lake today.

We stopped along the west shore of the lake, to look north for the rocky area he had mentioned. There are a couple of rock outcrops on the east shore, accessible only by canoe, and another exposed rockface higher on the steep slope on the north end of the lake, beyond the marshy shore there. We continued along the logging road on the west side, and a few hundred meters past the marsh, found a deactivated road, blocked by large boulders, heading east across the rise at the end of the lake. Thomas and I parked, and hiked in on that trail, soon finding ourselves crossing the base of the rockface that is visible from the lake. We came to the conclusion that the witness had probably seen someone/something walking the same path we were on. Thomas plans to contact the witness again, to confirm that we were in the spot where he saw the figure, so this is still inconclusive.

After heading back to the highway for lunch, the others headed home, but I wanted to check out an area I hadn't been able to access for about 3 years, due to a locked gate at the branch I wanted to explore. Today the gate was open, with a warning that it is an active logging block, and the gate is locked at sunset. I still had lots of time, so I proceeded to the end of both the north and south branches of the roads along the large creek valley. There is plenty of good habitat in this valley, though the fact that it is currently being logged has likely spooked most wildlife deep into the forests. I'll definitely come back here a year or two after the loggers are done, and see what sign can be found in there.

I’m looking for help locating a photo of a bear in this position. I need it to show a complete bears legs, butt, back, and head on the ground. Not just butts and legs. Since the beginning the Pennsylvania Game Commission under public pressure for answers had the opinion it was a mange infected bear in this contorted position. This photo was the one that made them think it was a bear. “It’s probably a group of bears this one rubbing it’s head on the ground like a dog” said Jerry Feaser.
 

It’s been 15 years surely someone somewhere has a matching photo of this position by now if this is a bear.

 I’m starting this thread to search for that photo not for arguments over opinions. I think everyone has heard all the opinions that it was a hoax, Bear, Chimpanzee, and juvenile Sasquatch… I used a photo that had a filter to possibly see the shape better but you can use the original on the BFRO website if you wish.
