Not Advertising What You Are Doing In The Field

Ya sorry man hopefully the finding bigfoot crap will phase out. I still like my recent approach just get myself way out there and just observe. Don't make a sound. Just sit. I dunno seemed different than the usual way I'd do things. Just my 1/2 a cent.

I agree research should be done being stealthy, be aware listen to your suroundings. Wood knocks, rock clacking, whoops whistles should not be done by the researchers. What do those things mean to a bigfoot? My guess is bigfoot would be trying to avoid human contact as much as possible. If bigfoot is curious he she will come to you if you are not a threat. You may not see them but you will know they are around. You may even suprise one! If you become a threat then you will be asked to leave and maybe escorted out of the area!

I too hope the FBF crap ends and those players get into some real research.

Just my opinion.

I kind of think you missed my intent and point of this thread, Cervelo.... but I'm Not surprised.

I'm out camping, hiking and birding, as well. I'm serious about what I'm doing, and would like to know.. that any results are not from other campers playing TV BF.  It is My responsibility... to stay far enough away from others in the field, and not intentionally let them know why I'm there. I wouldn't blame you for responding to someone out doing this, nor do I blame the youths for trying to provoke us. We  / I are mainly out listening / quietly investigating.. much more than whooping or knocking. Would never do it, if I had any knowledge that someone else was in earshot.. and if they were, it would stop.

"Finding Bigfoot" methods..are not what everybody interested, is doing out in the field.

You seem to be a master at twisting the point around, and trying to get under other poster's skins.. but you won't get under mine ...Yawn

How are all of you BF enthusiasts not playing TV BF?  Unless there is some sort of certification or BF hunter badge I don't know about, then it seems to me that everyone here is an amateur.  Amateur is not a dirty word, I don't  mean that  to be insulting, but what really separates you from someone inspired by Finding Bigfoot who is out there doing the same thing?

dmaker, Maybe... there were those of us, out doing such...before TV series "reality"  BF,. came on the air ? Before many, came on this forum...AAMOF.  I don't have a BF badge, but can have my daughter whip one up for me, out of construction paper, glue, and silver glitter.. Who said anything here about Not being an amateur ? I agree, amateur is not a dirty word.. or else, we are All dirty words. I sure the heck ain't getting paid for doing it . What separates me from partying youngsters out busting my balls ..playing " Finding Bigfoot " is... just my intentions, vs their intentions. Nothing else, really.. I guess.

Thanks for the response imonacan. I have respect for those that are serious in their intentions, so I could see where that would separate you from the "let's bang on a tree for the heck of it" crowd. I have to agree there.

Thanks

I agree.  I believe  BFRO is doing good work.

Just my take on how research is done in the field.  I've been out in the woods well before the internet and all the hype about bigfoot. I allways listen and observe. One thing I wish I would have had recording equipment and kept notes. I guess I'm no researcher. However I never would dream of fireworks, load music, or calling out.

The Finding Bigfoot team may be composed of veteran squatchers (from MM's perspective), but when they put the interests of an entertainment based reality show before research, they are sacrificing most, of not all of their real data/evidence.  With the goofy tricks (zagnuts, fireworks, baby dolls OH MY!) they've pulled, they have become puppets to keep the masses entranced.

Again, just because MM thinks that he lives and breathes BFRO, doesn't necessarily mean that he portrays the group on the show. If anything, he and the others have created a negative stereotype of bigfoot research, even though their intentions are in the right places.  Editors do what they need to give the crowd the bred and circuses.

Imonacan, thanks for posting what you recorded.  I respect your integrity in this area and wish you a goofball free experience next time!

Thanks for the well wishes, and the respect (all those posting replies in the thread). Next time... will be better, as far as not dealing with other people out there.  I don't expect any major break throughs (ever, really)... just more puzzling questions, I can't answer yet.

I am pleased to be able to correspond with many BFRO members, and compare findings.

Anyone can do this, that wants to. Just put yourself in good habitat, and get your ears on. All the other stuff... that you see on TV and hear about (field methods) might be good, or not good.. or might mean nothing at all. I can't accurately answer what is best.. but listening quietly, will never hurt.. and is good for what ails me. I used to yell and scream, and party with  packs of goofballs in the woods, instead of listen and relax. No fault in being young and having fun.

Don't advertise your intentions, and enjoy it for what it is.

ya guess we are all amateur's no shame in the game and the BFRO is doing great stuff. I think by saying "all this finding bigfoot crap" I really mean the  people not taking it seriously, out making fools of themselves......i realize that statement as a little iffy lol since we are all out looking for an animal named "Bigfoot" lol guess we gotta have a little fun with it!    squatch on guys

I never advertise in anyway. Drive a non-unique truck, no identifying stickers/decals, etc. I agree with the stick figure family being a horrible idea. Nothing like telling a criminal exactly how many people they can expect to be in a house...

"Hey, look !! A BF sticker !! I bet they have some cool electronics !!"

"How far to the pawn shop ?"

I imagine that conversation whenever i even THINK of pasting one of those on my truck. :(

Nothing like being watched, then when your away, your camp or truck gets rooted thru, things taken or destroyed. Violated. And NOT by the two legged ones you want.

Same thing runs through my mind Quiyoughsughs !   I get very nerved up about leaving my gear unattended , so I bought a massive locking water proof box to keep my electronics safely locked away.

Interesting point to consider. Never (to my knowledge) had my camp or truck rooted through, while out in the field. If I hike while set up in camp, I always take whatever is expensive with me, or else.. lock it (out of plain site) in the vehicle.

Although the BF stickers are long gone.. I still have an NRA and another (I can't mention here) sticker , that might spur on thought, or a reaction by a vandal... but not really too concerned about it. Even in some higher crime areas of the city, I've yet (knocking on wood) to be violated.

They will either

1) consider that I'm actually dumb enough to leave a weapon in my vehicle, or

2) wonder if I'm going to be walking around the bend while they are breaking in.. with my loaded weapon, and catch them in the act

Having great faith in most peoples common sense, I lean toward the later

Years in LE taught me, its good to "profile", better safe than sorry.

Yes, LE are not supposed to "profile", but they do.

An NRA or other firearm related sticker puts me on alert for weapons. Plain and simple. If someone makes a sudden move, your getting drawn down on.

A pot leaf sticker (LMAO @ those) tells me to look for drugs.

UFO sticker tells me theres a high probability of a psyc patient.

A Christian emblem usually means a safe traffic stop.

Its the same with WHAT your driving.

Beater pickup usually means firearms.

Single male in an SUV can be a drug runner.

Female with kids in an SUV could be a highly aggitated driver, call for backup on this one.

Young driver with fancy paint, big rims, lots of bling, *duh* drugs.

Pickups going slow on back roads could be a poacher or a grower.

The criminal element also profiles. What you drive, where and when, where you park. They watch their intended victims closely.

Dont be a victim.

Dont advertise to the world what you have, do, think or anything of value.

Remember to lock your door, keys in your pocket at all times, valuables in a locked compartment. Even if your just going to "Be a minute".

One of the worst robberies i heard of : car left running while the driver went into the store for coffee. Fresh released inmate jumped in, tore off down the road. Local police gave chase at high speed. Inmate ran a red light in the next town, colliding with another vehicle. It sent the other vehicle into a phone pole, killing the driver, who was a vice principle at a local school.

Lock it up, even if its only going to be a minute.

Camping. I've looked though alot of campsites, illegal ones, when i was on road duty. Lots of vagrants and growers. They try to hide their camps, and 9 times out of 10, something fishy is going on.

I do NOT wish anyone of us to bump into one of these guys, who WILL KILL or rob you blind in a heartbeat !!! You dont always know they are there, waiting for an opportunity.

ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings. Dont leave anything of value unsecured.

Yes, its less likely to happen in the forest than inthe city, but that doesnt mean it cant happen.

If your doing night ops, try to leave a person at your camp to guard it or take your stuff with you.

Be safe out there. :)
