Countering all the snowy woodsy pictures for those of you still buried in snow, this is Alfonsina's, many miles down a washboard "road" from San Felipe to Gonzaga Bay on the Sea of Cortez. alf2.jpg

Nice pic! are we making you feel cold? I don't do too well in hot climates or near oceans. Jaws might get me! :(

I am a little cold now, yes, and Jaws? You post a story about a Polar Bear attack that makes you wistfully wish you were there, and you hunt a bipedal giant something or other in the woods and you're worried about some stupid shark? Okay, yeah, me too.

Don't think I've ever seen one of those around these parts.

Jackalopes, sold at Wall Drug out west...someone slapped antlers on a jackrabbit way back when and the stories began! :) It's just a fun "imaginary" animal to tease the tourists...altho by now available over the internet.

I have no idea what you saw the elderly gentleman holding? Sounds like a interesting day in the woods for sure!!

Sorry, I've got one hanging over the bar at home. It as the only thing I could think of that was small with antlers.

I knew what you were talking about. When I lived in Arizona they used to sell those at some of the tourist shops. The elderly man's prize skull with antlers had only a bit of flesh and hide on the top otherwise was all bones. It had a longer nasal cavity than a jackalope. I suppose it could be possible someone shipped him a newly decomposed antelope. I even entertained the thought he might be in some kind of cult. You run into some strange people in this area. Granted every place I've lived has had strange people, but its a special kinda strange out here.

Dang. You're "special kinda strange" just made me flash on a Rainbow Gathering we attended once for about 2 hours. We were camping close by elsewhere and just drove in to check it out. We got curious.

It was kinda not cool. Bad JuJu, like.

Maybe I just didn't get it, but the vibes were bad bad bad. Like predatory vibes.

We carted out three people in the Subie (one couple and one single) who seemed really relieved to be outta there. The single had asked on our way IN if we were going out....

Dropped em all off at the Dairy Queen and went on our way...

I pay attention my vibes. I personally think that my "vibes" are my hinter-mind and ALL my senses taking in information waaaaay too fast for my conscious mind to process, and coming to a conclusion.

Gotta respect that.

Yeah, so like a Duiker or a Brocket then? Weird. All I know is that you had an intensely strange day. You know, maybe he found some freak decomposed deer on a trail---see, but as you said your description of his church clothes sort of rules that out, although I've passed dressed up people on moderately gnarly trails on a Sunday afternoon in some parts of the country. Nope, can't really rationalize it. Apropos!

For those who have gone swimming at night and have had something take a bite at your toes in the black water underneath will know what I mean. Jaws was the first scarry movie I watched. After seeing that there could be big bad sharks anywhere.

There was a Rainbow Gathering when I lived in Arizona and yes it did appear to attract the worst sort of people as in troublemakers and not freethinking granolas and hippies like they try to say its about. Reminds me of someone telling me how wonderful the Burning Man festival in NM was, yet it sounded more like a drug and sex with strangers free for all with some violence thrown in for fun. I'm glad you felt safe enough around those people that you were able to escort out safely. I don't think I'd want to go there as a single, not without a sidearm.

After hearing just how close sharks really are on the beach its certainly changed my perspective on playing in the water. Did once go to the beach apparently right after a tiger shark had given birth. It seemed like there were thousands of little baby tigers everytime the waves came in. They were so CUTE, but after being nipped in the feet and ankles about a hundred times it lost its cuteness.

I am trying to get into this area? where there's lots of BF activity this summer/fall. So if you visit this place you may have at least a Tracker sighting if your unlucky? ;)

That's a beautiful place whereever it is. I'd be willing to go if the fishing was good in that lake! lol
