1994 - Research Notes - John Green's Questionnaire and Database
Trogluddite posted a topic in Patterson-Gimlin Film Reference Materials
John Green (RIP) is one of the four horsemen of Bigfoot/Sasquatch research. According to Daniel Perez in Bigfoot at Bluff Creek: A Pictorial Discussion, p.23, Bob Gimlin answered a questionnaire concerning this encounter in 1970. In addition, John Green had been to the site of Roger and John's encounter and had interviewed Bob Gimlin in 1992. John Green incorporated all of this information into his massive database of Bigfoot/Sasquatch encounter reports which he had collected. The most historic encounter in Bigfoot history is #1000377. Forum member Redbone has entered the Roger and Bob's encounter into the Forum's Standardized Sighting Record (SSR) at https://bigfootforums.com/topic/67573-california-del-norte-county-oct-1967-record-1000377-pgf/#comment-1041415. Former Forum member hiflier reached out to John Green before the latter's death and obtained a copy of John Green's database and permission to make it readable to modern computer programs. A copy of John Green's full database as obtained by hiflier is at https://bigfootforums.com/topic/48732-john-greens-sasquatch-database/. -
What do you think of the US Forest Service's view on bigfoot?
georgerm replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
Bigfoot The topic of this thread is: what do you think of the US Forest Service's view on Sasquatch? The Forest Service's own opinion as of this year is as follows: "The US Forest Service's official stance on Bigfoot is that it's a creature of folklore and urban legend, though they have engaged in some playful acknowledgements of the creature." 1/4 of a billion acres is managed by the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management and what is their main duty? Their duty is to insure that we have a "sustained yield" of lumber trees. What's that? If it takes a Douglas Fir trees 30 years to grow to a profitable crop then cut 1/30th of your land per year and replant each year. The Forest Service's job is to sustain wildlife. Could we have the Forest Service managers more out of touch with the reality of Sasquatch when Sasquatch reports pour in from all parts of the country along with mysterious disappearances of hikers. This is the topic so please refrain from derailing it or simply start your own topic. What is your viewpoint? If the Forest Service admitted that they know all about Sasquatch, would this close down most logging? Does sustained yield logging harm or help Sasquatch? Could the Forest bring in revenue for creating bigfoot parks and selling true life proven Bigfoot books written by their wildlife biologist. The national forest lands that are composed of 245 million acres of land mostly dedicated to commercial forest, grazing, grazing and wildlife preservation. As Norseman stated most of the lumber mills in his area have closed and the same here in Coos Bay, Oregon. Maybe someone can start a new topic on this dilemma. Forest Service incognito posters reply at will. Norseman can you please deal with chronic topic derailers? - Today

1992 - Interview - B. Gimlin by John Green
Trogluddite posted a topic in Patterson-Gimlin Film Reference Materials
According to Bobbie Short's (RIP) website, Bigfoot Encounters, John Green's interviewed Bob Gimlin on March 29, 1992. The interview, which was videotaped, lasted more than an hour. Bobbie Short credits Peter Guttilla with alerting her to the existence of the videotaped interview and it appears that she actually viewed the videotape itself. However, it is not clear who prepared the transcript. There are multiple YouTube videos of people re-creating this interview but I have been unable to identify any that are a digitized version of the actual interview itself. The transcript can be found at http://www.bigfootencounters.com/, then click on the "Interviews" tab. -

This is a classic, mentioned many times in the Forums and highlighted by Norseman at https://bigfootforums.com/topic/62420-the-bauman-story/#comment-1020163. I'm sure that there are more threads about. These pages are from the 1893 edition of Teddy Roosevelt's The Wilderness Hunter, which I have as an Adobe Acrobat file. The book is likely available as an e-book as well. -

The River People: What We Saw Near Fellows Lake | Missouri
BFFbot posted a topic in Bigfoot Society Podcast
What happens when a quiet weekend in Missouri turns into a chilling encounter with two creatures that shouldn’t exist? In this gripping and recent episode, we hear from James, a listener from the Ozarks who recounts a string of intense encounters — from eerie owl mimicry and bone-rattling whoops in the night, to the day he and his girlfriend saw two humanlike figures wading through Fellows Lake… and vanish right before their eyes. You’ll hear stories from the Mark Twain National Forest, Coy Bald, Assumption Abbey, and Fellows Lake — complete with wood knocks, massive pinecones thrown at their tent, overpowering smells, and a close-up encounter with beings that defy logic. Could these creatures cloak themselves to avoid detection? Are there Sasquatch with the ability to become nearly invisible? More than just another encounter, James’s story taps into something deeper — the strange connection between curiosity, intuition, and the parts of the woods we’re not meant to understand. Spoke to the witness who is from Oklahoma and he said “I saw the creature on two different occasions in broad daylight. What I saw looked like a cave man. I was a young man when this encounter took place, I was frozen looking at this thing. Later that night it came to my window. I have seen so much over the years on this property. I learned many years ago to keep my mouth shut because of ridicule. I recently received some bad news from my doctor, I don’t care anymore what people think. 1968/06/01 - Newsletter - Pursuit Article by Ivan T. Sanderson
Trogluddite posted a topic in Patterson-Gimlin Film Reference Materials
Bigfooter Bobbie Short (RIP) describes Pursuit as a journal published by Ivan T. Sanderson's Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained which was "long since defunct" at the time she republished this article from the journal on the Bigfoot Encounters website at http://www.bigfootencounters.com/. Once again, click on the Newspaper and Magazine Articles tab and look through the alphabetical listing of articles. This article is included primarily because it includes a great deal of information about Roger and Al DeAtley's meeting in New York City trying to get publicity for the Patterson-Gimlin film. And that is not a typo, this article omits any mention of Bob Gimlin traveling to New York City. -

1968/07/27 - Interview - R. Patterson by Dr. John Napier
Trogluddite posted a topic in Patterson-Gimlin Film Reference Materials
In 1968, the BBC aired the first documentary about Bigfoot in North America. This video, from The Sasquatch Archives by Todd Prescott, provides the introduction by Dr. John Napier, Roger Patterson describing the encounter, and Dr. Napier interviewing Roger Patterson. Thanks to Forum member Middenthrope, a full copy of the 1968 BBC documentary will be linked here later today. The YouTube Auto-Transcription, edited by me last month, is attached. 0:00 Introduction 0:33 Patterson: I realize that the conception of these giant creatures – they're called Bigfoot – is a fantastic subject and a lot of people scoff at it and don't believe it, but I believe it, I'm convinced that these creatures exist, and I'm going to prove it if it takes me the rest of my life. 0:56 Napier: Abominable snowmen. Abominable snowmen, as far as we in the western world are concerned, live in the Himalayas but the evidence for their actual existence is pretty unscientific, pretty tenuous. We have footprints, eyewitness accounts, and a few odd and rather doubtful skull caps. Transcript 1968 Patterson Napier Interview.docx -

Something Watched Me From 200 Yards — Then Vanished | Oregon | Idaho
BFFbot posted a topic in Bigfoot Society Podcast
What happens when a lifelong outdoorsman begins a spiritual transformation — and the forest starts watching back? In this haunting episode, we sit down with Steve, a wilderness photographer and hunter with decades of experience in the Pacific Northwest. After a terrifying scream shattered the silence of the Elkhorn Mountains, Steve’s life changed forever. He shares a series of chilling and mystical encounters — from unexplained footsteps outside his truck, to a scream so loud it "blew his skin off," to a dead deer seemingly gifted by something unseen. As Steve pursued both wildlife and personal healing, he began to notice patterns: trees snapped in impossible ways, strange lights in the forest, objects vanishing from his apartment — and finally, a silent figure in black watching him from the road below. This episode dives deep into the intersection of the paranormal and the spiritual, with stories from the John Day Wilderness, the Salmon River, and the Idaho backcountry. More than just Bigfoot, this is a journey through faith, fear, and the mysterious intelligence that might be watching those who are ready to see. 🗣️ Share Your Story Had a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience? What do you think of the US Forest Service's view on bigfoot?
Huntster replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
Indeed, but I think the community has all the resources needed. The real key is an organization like BFRO who might get a fresh report of ongoing activity. This solves the most difficult hurdle in trying to catch a rare creature: concentrating the hunt in the best possible area. The last hurdle would be finding a destination for the carcass, and I believe we have interested scientific authorities qualified for that. But the first hurdle is obtaining the authority to harvest. Just as one would initiate a big game hunt, one must obtain the license and harvest tag or permit. This is no different. One even needs permission to pick flowers on public lands. Gathering firewood requires permission. You can't simply hunt and kill wildlife without permission, even on private lands. And this requirement serves two major purposes: 1) Requesting a permit to harvest a Sasquatch, on either public or private lands, forces government to address the issue. They can't just continue with their silence. And if they refuse the permit, they have to give a reason why...........which can be addressed in order to reapply. 2) Once finally obtained, the harvest is 100% legal, and the permit will pre-clarify what will be done with the harvested sasquatch, just like hunting regs specify what must be done with harvested big game. -

Science demands a body(s) to be sure. And it would seem government is doing everything in its power to stop that from ever happening. They probably are hoping it will quietly go extinct. Problem solved.

Wild Humans (and Journalists) Running Wild
Trogluddite posted a topic in More Historical Newspaper Archives
Many wild men and wild women stories are just as clearly human as stories about 8-feet tall, hair covered calf-killers are clearly Bigfoot or Sasquatch (or entirely made up, we'll never know). I'm going to put some of the more dramatic or humorous or in some cases wholly disheartening stories here. While it may seem counter-intuitive to include such stories in this thread, there are at least two cases where published books found only half of a story and reported an incident clearly involving a human as if Bigfoot was involved. -
What are the odds of some Soldier or Marine or Border Patrol or DEA agent, etc., seeing one? Probably very high. But even reported, it likely stops at the first level chain-of-command because its not relevant to each agency's specific statutory missions (national defense, border security, or stopping illegal drug activity) and, as noted in another thread, even if reported to the correct agency (National Fish and Wildlife?), still not sufficient to establish that a species exists. Even if the witness was the offspring of George Washington and Mother Theresa and genetically could not tell a lie, and was hit with truth serum, and passed multiple polygraph exams, its just not enough. Sadly, unless and until John McClane tosses the dead body of a Bigfoot out of a window at Nakatomi Plaza onto a police car below, efforts to prove existence will be futile.
