What do you think of the US Forest Service's view on bigfoot?

You make a good point. If the forest service employees are encouraged or ordered to report their sightings then those who oversee the forest service could begin to protect bigfoot from harm and keep logging at its present rate. -
What do you think of the US Forest Service's view on bigfoot?

Paul Freeman, a Forest Service employee reported that he saw a bigfoot in the Umatilla National Forest, and he took a video of it. He also took many plaster casts. Bing Videos Jan 19, 2018 · Nearly three decades later, a U.S. Forest Service employee, Paul Freeman, recorded what he claims to be Bigfoot walking through the Umatilla Forest in Northeastern Oregon, …forest service biologist sees bigfoot - Search It's my logical opinion that there have been many more sightings by forest service employees but they are forced to keep quiet due to threats of job loss. The U.S. Forest Service has approximately 27,062 permanent, full-time employees as of September 2018, which includes biologists among other professionals. However, specific counts for the number of biologists within the Forest Service are not provided in the available Let's estimate how many forest service employees are working full time and who drive around the forest every day and all day as part of their job. There might be 10,000 employees driving the back roads of the forest. How many of them have reported seeing a bigfoot. The answer is one. Why only one? My assumption is there are probably many more sightings, but these bigfoot reports are not reported to the public since logging could be shut down because bigfoot would probably need its habitat protected. Bigfoot roams all parts of the national forest, and the forest service fears it might be classified as an endangered species. This is an unwarranted fear because in my opinion bigfoot survives perfectly fine with sustained yield clear cut logging. Can you answer why this is true? - Today

But Paulides is (as far as I know and I’m trying to find his own words to make sure) the only source of anything weird What do you consider an “eye opener”? This case seems to be held up as the flagship m411 case but there’s nothing to it as far as I can see from my own investigation

As i’ve said on a parallel thread, unless the government or forest service have a body, they won’t acknowledge anything, and why would they? I wouldn’t expect them to go beyond science and no doubt it suits them not to. -

1967/10/20 - Background - Sunrise/Sunset Data for Day of Encounter
Trogluddite posted a topic in Patterson-Gimlin Film Reference Materials
As calculated by the U.S. Naval Observatory's Astronomical Applications Department. For those unfamiliar with "civil twilight," this is the time where there's usable sunlight, which begins before the sun actually rises and ends after the sun actually sets. UPDATE at 4:12 PM: I went back and had the computer recalculate using the lat/long for the encounter site rather than for Eureka, which was the closest location that was available. Additionally, after confirming on the Time and Date website that Daylight Saving Time was not in effect on 20 October 1967, I looked and found a box to check that I had not noticed when I first ran the data. Therefore this calculation does not include the switch to Daylight Saving Time. -

Illinois 1970 - Wiley and the Hairy Man - Tirademan!

Tirademan found a book by this name, but I have no idea if this is the same one. Published in the Belleville (IL) News-Democrat on December 08, 1970, this is one of the latest articles or advertisements I found. A Minnesota TV station aired the drama Wiley and the Hairy Man in 1948 and a 1949 article from Michigan tells how a sculptor was inspired by a book of the same title about "an Alabama boy and his mother who outwitted the devil on three occasions." In 1953, a Wisconsin high school student won a forensic contest for his "humorous declamation" of the same name. -

Michigan 1965 - Commercial Exploitation Follows Reported Encounter - Tirademan!

Published in the Flint (MI) Journal on August 19, 1965. The town of Monroe, Michigan, apparently decided to make the best out of the influx of monster hunters who came to town hunting the nuclear power plant Bigfoot. Apparently, the folks in Monroe took this idea from the folks in Sister Lake, who sold monsterburgers in 1964. Based on Google Map driving directions, the two communities are almost three hours apart, so this does not appear to be one story that got recycled in a town year after year. -

Yeah, don't get used to that from me... Healthy skepticism is warranted and needed in this field or else people will be thinking that we'd all buy that bridge in Brooklyn they want to sell us.

What happens when a pastor from Oregon spends decades chasing Sasquatch through the Blue Mountains, Highway 12, and beyond — and keeps running into the unexplained? In this gripping episode of Bigfoot Society, we sit down with Kevin, a lifelong Bigfoot researcher whose journey began as a child in Puyallup, Washington, listening to “samurai chatter” with his father. Kevin’s story spans the infamous Puyallup Screams, late-night encounters near Packwood, gifting exchanges at Deduct Springs, and even the moment a patrolman accidentally urinated on a Sasquatch — only to be met with a roar that shook the night. From flipping logs in search of beetles, to roadside stand-offs on Highway 12, to deep mysteries in the Indian Heaven Wilderness, Kevin shares accounts that will leave you questioning what walks our forests after dark. More than just tales of terror, this episode reveals how the search for Bigfoot has shaped a lifetime of faith, research, and family connection. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like when the woods wake up around you — this is the episode you can’t miss. 🗣️ Share Your Story Had a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience? 1969 - Newspaper Article - Patterson Gives Presentation in Spokane
Trogluddite posted a topic in Patterson-Gimlin Film Reference Materials
Published in the Spokane (WA) Spokesman-Review on February 26, 1969, this article includes comments by Roger Patterson. It is unclear whether they were made to an audience during a presentation or were in response to specific questions posed by the reporter. Nothing jumps out as being remarkable apart from him describing Bob Gimlin as his friend, which was a sentiment that Bob Gimlin did not appear to share at this time. - Yesterday

"Sightings of rock apes by Viet Cong and NVA troops were also common enough that an NVA general, General Hoang Minh Tha, organized an expedition in 1974 to try to capture or at least kill one of these legendary creatures. The expedition was unsuccessful, though, and no hard evidence for the existence of the rock apes was found." "Another expedition organized by Professor Vo Quy of the Vietnam National University was similarly unsuccessful. However, strange human-like (but not human) footprints were found in the jungle in 1970 by Professor Tran Hong Viet of Hanoi’s Pedagogic University. He made casts of the footprints, but found no further evidence of the rock apes’ existence," Rock Apes: How Vietnam's 'Rock Apes' Confounded American GIs. In the posted article, the author said rock apes get up to 6' tall and they throw rocks at people like bigfoot does. At least some prominent individuals in Vietnam such as General Tha and two professors Hong Vet and Vo Quy have launched searches for Rock Apes. We don't have generals or many professors looking to document bigfoot due to the stigma generally held by Americans. The Forest Service has hired quite a few PHD biologist and we don't hear from them in regards to bigfoot. The Forest Service call bigfoot a mythical primate so their biologist are sitting on evidence because the higher ups refuse to recognize bigfoots. Why are we so different from Vietnam? Is the Forest Service threatening their biologist to stay quiet on bigfoot? Why would they quelch bigfoot searches and hide knowledge from the public? -

I meant to say thank you also for going to the trouble of finding and attaching the clippings. Sources are immensely important and people who are willing to engage cogently with rational, well thought out ideas are the reason I joined (and the reason i believe- (tip of the hat to bill munns))

Thank you for the reply. I’m aware of the footprints, Bill Martin saying they were the wrong size (but who else would they be) etc. I’ve been through old newspaper clippings because you can’t believe anything anyone says on the internet and as close to original source is as good as anyone can get. My interest right now is purely where the “hairy bipedal carrying a red cloth/bag along a ridge” came into the story. It seems that it’s a Paulides fabrication but I want to give his own words a chance before I dismiss him completely

Not from the book, but here is substantially the same thing is noted at https://vanished.us/cases/dennis-martin-vanished-great-smokey-mountains/. This page mentions footprints that were found as if it was mysterious. One of the Kingsport Times articles published during the search stated that tracks were found of a person with one shoe off and one shoe on. While they don't mention size (or I missed it in skimming the article), they tried to use tracking dogs on that section. Presumably, because they thought that the tracks were from Dennis. Here's the earliest report available, which was almost a month after the disappearance. The second article mentions the car that was nearby, partially hidden off the road. I don't want to say absolutely nothing Bigfoot-related to see here, but I would be at about 93% or greater that this was a tragic accident or unfortunate encounter with a hungry animal.

Any chance anyone with the books could provide a quote of the “hairy man, seen carrying a red thing on his back” part of the book? The books aren’t really available here. Doesn’t seem legit to me but want to see his own words before coming to a firm conclusion. In particular, I’m interested to know, did the info come from Bill Martin, citing Harold Key some 40 years or more after the incident?

Why is the federal government mum on Bigfoot.
Pembo replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
I’d have to say that for me a body on a slab is necessary to consider somebody “knowing”. Photos, anecdotal evidence, thermals etc may be enough for belief. But a belief, however strongly held is not “knowing”. Knowing, to me includes a level of certainty that can only come with a body and its examination. If the gov’t or some part of it doesn’t have a body, then I don’t think it reasonable to expect anyone of any authority to stick their neck out further than the scientific community is willing to, and to actually acknowledge a BF. Anything short of a body can be explained with the possibility of misidentification, guy in a suit etc. and could lead to massive embarrassment for the gov’t if shown to be such. Of course, the opportunity to dismiss in that way probably suits the gov’t and its employees fine in the CYA or cover up scenarios you guys mentioned -
