Published on March 10, 1969 in Florida Today, Cocoa (FL). Because everyone knows you can just hop in your car, drive to Oregon, and capture a baby Bigfoot. Plus, I swear that I only included the nude hitchhiker story because of how I have to clip articles in Newspapers.com. (Bet you'll read the story now.)

Published in The Hamilton (Ontario) Spectator on January 04, 1969. The reporters appear to have interviewed Albert Ostman. It also includes a summary of "the Classics" as Bobbie Short (RIP) called them. Canadian newspapers appear to have taken an early favorable stand on Sasquatch.

That dog won't hunt and there's not enough snow to track Bigfoot - the life of a Sasquatch hunter has always faced challenges. Published in the The Daily Astorian, Astoria (OR) on December 17, 1969. (But the story is about the search near Colville, Washington.)

Todd Standing's Bigfoot heads are full blown fakes. They even show progression, with later ones being better than the muppet heads in the beginning. But Todd Standing is in a great area along the BC and Alberta border. Did Jeff Meldrum bump something genuine in that area? Who knows. Its my understanding that his sighting was at night with a NV or FLIR scope. I cannot remember which. Its entirely possible that Standing pulled some shenanigans. But its also possible if you believe the creature to be out there that Meldrum may have had a genuine encounter. Either way it doesn't move the goal posts regardless.

As long as there have been Sasquatch, there have been skeptics, apparently. Published in The Province, British Columbia on December 22, 1969.

Interesting post........ I believe this is true, to wit: If sasquatches exist, the federal government knows it to some extent. This may be true, however, I believe that the overall pressures of us Homo sapiens far outweighs the possibility le benefits of increased deer populations. For example, over the past 150 years, the salmon populations in many watersheds of the Pacific Northwest have virtually gone extinct if not crashed over the long term. This represents a huge loss of sustenance for such a creature. On the other hand, humans have eliminated brown bears from much of western sasquatch habitat, which likely has also benefitted them. There are lots of factors that go way, way, way beyond deer and old growth forest. Why not?

Well, I certainly can't explain why sasquatches can't be designated as endangered, especially since there is no data or information about them whatsoever.........at least that we know of. But I would love to hear or read somebody explain it.

My prediction is a small group of upper management charged with managing federal lands knows about bigfoot. The Forest Service and the BLM biologist in Washington DC know about BF is my opinion. If so, they probably have pictures of dead ones and maybe bodies as proof. Did they take Smeja's bigfoot? Other lower level managers are kept out of the loop, ridiculed, and threatened with firing if they start talking about BF (probably true) In my opinion bigfoot prospers in logged land where they hunt an abundance of deer feeding on vegetation growing in the sunlight. Here in Oregon, the rare Spotted Owl has caused logging on federal land to be cut way back to retain their habitat. It's logical, bigfoot would require special protection too. Without logging, the Forest Service will shrink even more. However, my opinion as a past landscape architect for the Rogue River National Forest and a knower of bigfoots, bigfoot thrives on the extra deer that graze on brushy land being reforested after clear cutting. Bigfoot thrives in logged areas that are growing back providing the sustained yield logging method is used based on the fir trees that take 50 to a 100 years to reach maximum growth. For example clear cut a 100 acres of a 10,000 acre forest plantation every 100 years that grow under average conditions. In the case of fast growing trees in prime conditions cut 100 acres every 50 years. (check my math) "As the law states now, the federal government restricts logging within a 2,000 acre radius around known spotted owl nests and roosts, and also requires that at least 500 acres of the largest trees in that zone be left uncut." http://www.wildlifewatchers.org/esReports/report17.html This will not happen in the case of bigfoot.

I hear ya Pembo but I smell a skunk. Does the Forest Service really want bigfoot discovered? They fear Bigfoot will be labeled as an endangered species which would shut down logging. I used to be a Forest Service landscape architect, and they could easily prove their logging practices would not harm bigfoots that live in every corner of their forest land. Can you explain why this would be the case? bet ya can't? Would bigfoot be labeled as an endangered species? Absolutely not. Can some bright person explain why? The forest service should be working on the justification for not labeling bigfoot as an endangered species and logging can continue providing the sustained yield method is followed. The first story I would like to discuss is the incident that allegedly occurred in the vicinity of Battle Mountain, Nevada in August of 1999 and might be deemed a "modern classic". On, or about, August 6 several wildfires sprang up and engulfed the wilderness around Battle Mountain. Several state and federal agencies were present to help in battling these fires. These agencies included, but were not necessarily limited to, the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Department of the Interior, the Bureau of Land Management, and, of course, numerous fire fighting units from Nevada and its surrounding states. According to a witness who claimed to have been on the ground during the attempts to contain the fire, a sasquatch was injured during the blaze and was captured by fire fighters. The witness submitted a report to the BFRO on August 7, 1999. His account was not deemed credible by BFRO curators and was never published. Thom Powell, author of The Locals, however, felt there might be something to this report and pressed for more details. Published in the Tri-City Herald, Pasco (WA) on December 24, 1969. At first, I thought Roger was going to Colville region to look at tracks that had been hoaxed (see the story just published a few days ago), but these tracks appeared a year earlier than the ones which a hoaxer claimed to have created. Given all the stories of how dogs react to a Bigfoot, one can only wonder what would have happened if the tracking dog had been up to the job.

With respect to Tirademan and Gigantor, this is a different article than that published in Tirademan's archives. The title of that post refers to Patterson coming to the Walla Walla area and the attached story goes into more detail about the track find, but doesn't mention Patterson that I can see. This article was published in the Longview (WA) Daily News on September 29, 1966. It sounds like Roger interviewed one of the miners from the Ape Canyon incident.
