A lengthier version of possible Oregon Bigfoot events in the 1850s can be found at https://truwe.sohs.org/files/bigfoot.html. The only newspaper article I could find concerning these events was from the Statesman Journal of Salem (OR); this column was published on April 02, 1939 but references finding the story in an earlier newspaper.

A very short article from the Medford (OR) Mail Tribune on Friday, November 22, 1935.

The original version of this story is recounted on the Southern Oregon History website at https://truwe.sohs.org/files/bigfoot.html. I have yet to find a copy of the newspaper articles that are cited there. This story from The Coos Bay Times of Coos Bay (OR) was published on February 13, 1937 and omits the part about a miner being beaten to death and instead reports the encounter as a funny story that was likely fueled by too much whiskey.

The initial story on this event ran in The Pall Mall Gazette of London, England, on September 30, 1875, and appeared in British, Scottish, and Australian newspapers through 1876, though nary a word of this monster can be found in any United States paper of the time.

The first story was published in The (OH) Akron Beacon and Republican on April 28, 1897 and included in The Bigfoot Casebook Updated by Janet and Colin Bord. The second story, which makes the suspect sound more like a human for want of long hair and other beastly features, was published in the The Cleveland (OH) Plain Dealer on April 29, 1897.

Published in The Telegraph-Courier of Kenosha (WI) on March 9, 1899, but the story reports that the capture occurred about two years ago.

Published in the Delegate Argus and Border Post of Delegate, Australia, on February 25, 1897.

The first story is from the Abilene (TX) Reporter-News on July 8, 1977. The second is from the same paper on Monday, July 11, 1977.

Published in the Fort Worth (TX) Star-Telegram on August 3, 1964. Anyone have a red magic marker so we can circle it? Sad to say, the film did not persuade many viewers, the paper reported.

From the San Antonio (TX) Evening News on July 22, 1964. However, just a few months later the Abilene (TX) Reporter-News ran a story again describing the Haskell Rascal as a member of the cat family; this article ran on November 14, 1964.
