Front page news from The Merrill Star-Advocate, in Merrill, Wisconsin, on April 4, 1883. To close to April 1st for my liking! Sorry for the size disparity, but in Newspapers.com if you clip a big article, it gets shrunk down; if you clip a small section, the result is huge. I'll be mindful of that in future posts. -

This forum highlights additional or lost historical newspaper articles about Bigfoot, Sasquatch, wild men, wild women, and other hairy bipedal beasts. Former Bigfoot Forums member Tirademan (Scott McClean, RIP) originally posted his collection of newspaper articles in the Bigfoot Forums 1.0 Media - News & Magazine Articles subforum, which is archived at https://bigfootforums.com/topic/15747-amazing-historical-archives-found/. The newspaper articles referenced in that thread are generally no longer visible, except for those saved by Gigantor in Tirademan’s Historical Newspaper Archives at https://bigfootforums.com/forum/130-tirademans-historical-newspaper-archives/. Other newspaper articles which Tirademan posted are scattered, and buried, throughout different threads in the forums. This forum is an effort to consolidate and add to Tirademan’s prior work, thus providing additional reference material for members of the Bigfoot Forums. To that end, * Historical newspaper articles already included Tirademan’s Historical Newspaper Archives will not be duplicated here. * Historical newspaper articles that can reasonably be identified as having been posted in Bigfoot Forums 1.0 Media - News & Magazine Articles will be labeled as Tirademan’s articles. * If historical newspaper articles are referenced in published books (e.g., Bigfoot in New York and New England; The Bigfoot Casebook), that book will be noted if I’m aware of the book. * Every single historical newspaper article about a single incident may not be published. Some incidents, like the great Doerr Terrace gorilla hunt, generated tremendous coverage throughout a single state or wider; many newspaper articles are merely shortened versions of an original article. Other articles are so short and vague as to be worthless as traditionary evidence. * This forum will be tightly controlled. If you know of historical newspaper articles which might exist, or which were buried in other threads, feel free to send me a message or to list the request under this post. Researchers who are interested in finding historical news reports can use https://www.newspapers.com/ or http://www.newspaperarchive.com/, both of which may require a subscription.

What really happened that night on Glastenbury Mountain — when something large walked between two tents in the dead of night… and vanished without a trace? In this gripping episode of Bigfoot Society, we sit down with Dave, a retired police detective and lifelong hunter from southern Vermont. Dave shares his chilling encounter from the late 1980s, when he and his brother camped deep in the infamous Bennington Triangle — a region haunted by legends of disappearances, strange lights, and Bigfoot sightings. What they felt walk through their camp changed how they saw the wilderness forever. But it doesn’t stop there. Years later, in a remote Adirondack hunting cabin, something strange happened again — screens ripped open 11 feet high, a man waking up outside with the door still locked, lights in the sky, and guttural howls echoing from the treeline. This episode will take you from Green Mountain shadows to Adirondack isolation — where something big is still watching. 🗣️ Share Your Story Had a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience? What do you think of the US Forest Service's view on bigfoot?
norseman replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
We would definitely be the most interesting thing in our own solar system. But you’re making the assumption that aliens are gonna get in a craft and specifically fly to Earth just to check us out. Here are a couple of options to consider. 1) They have left their home world a long time ago and are slowly expanding in all directions exploring our galaxy. Our discovery is simply a pleasant surprise or a wary observation and was never an objective of theirs in the beginning. 2) Instead of being an alien race cohabiting our galaxy? They are humans from the distant future. Time travelers. Or another sentient Earth species older than ourselves that comes back from time to time to check on the home world. I think the evidence is overwhelming we have been visited by UFOs or UAPs or whatever we would like to call them. I think what is pure speculation is WHAT or WHO they are. Or even if they present themselves to us in the same way from generation to generation. They obviously are not little green men from Mars like our grandparents thought. Maybe we are all in a computer simulation and the programmers like to throw us curve balls? 🤷♂️ -

FLY I see the stars and galaxies and soon. There could be life on none or many. If there is life, my contention is just that it hasn’t visited earth. That’s all. we might not even be the most significant thing in our own solar system to an outside passerby the numbers of stars and things you mention seem more geared to suggest life must be on a few. Fine. I don’t see someone 561,789 light years from earth even knowing we are here let alone deciding somehow through some means to come here. -

New York - 1881 Mysterious Beast Near Florida (NY) - Tirademan!
Trogluddite posted a topic in More Historical Newspaper Archives
The original newspaper article posted by Tirademan in the initial New York Incidents or Field Observations thread at https://bigfootforums.com/topic/357-new-york-incidents-or-field-observations/page/3/#findComment-31113. I ran across a more fulsome (albeit not inherently more trustworthy) article published a little over two weeks after this one. Of note, neither newspaper is from a town located anywhere near the reported encounter. Additionally, this article relies upon an article in another newspaper, which got the information from someone in New Jersey. The lake in question should be Glenmere Lake, which is just southeast of the village of Florida (NY), not Glen Moor Lake. -

That's their job, and despite my disbelief, I support them looking in to it. Zero. Nada. Zip. And it's their job, and I've stated on this forum a zillion times that they're failing..............or it's intentional. I believe the latter............. Yet we even have claims that such proof is in the hands of government. ..........or dangerous time. I say the latter, and as I posted in The Tar Pit: -

But Congress does believe in the possibility that aliens are visiting us with physical vehicles. They have held multiple hearings on the phenomenon. https://oversight.house.gov/hearing/unidentified-anomalous-phenomena-exposing-the-truth/ How many Congressional hearings have we had on Sasquatch? I agree that we have more proof of archaic hominids (at least in the public domain) than we do UAPs. But this is also logical if we are truly being visited by a more advanced civilization. Asking abductees for proof on aliens or a UFO is akin to asking a Bass if he has evidence of a Bass boat or a human. Personally I believe people like Travis Walton just as much as I do Bob Gimlin. And I am bias because unlike Sasquatch I am a multiple time UFO witness. And while I can entertain what I saw recently as our own military? I was seeing the same thing in the 1970s which makes it harder to explain as a secret military project. IMHO. We live in interesting times to say the least. -

Huntster replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
Believing is fun, and there's nothing wrong with it. But there's no proof of intelligent life on other planets. It's that simple. That written, I believe that it's possible, but I do not believe that they are visiting us in physical vehicles. Noting your point (which is essentially the Drake Equation written in a different form), we know that sasquatch type creatures existed in the past. We have fossils. It is scientifically established. What we don't have is (1) fossils dated recently, as in a few hundred years, and (2) such fossils found in North America. That's the only proof of sasquatch that is lacking with regard to the current sasquatch phenomenon. -

What happens when a Midwest researcher finds himself face-to-face with a red-eyed creature in the deep woods of Iowa — and then it hurls a log over a six-foot boulder? In this intense and shadowy episode, we sit down with Bob Barhite, a longtime BFRO investigator and veteran of expeditions across the Driftless Area of Iowa. From glowing red eye sightings in Fayette County to terrifying nights at Backbone State Park, Bob recounts hair-raising encounters with creatures that mimic voices, throw objects, and may even use light as communication. You’ll hear stories from Yellow River, Blue Mound State Park, the Mines of Spain, and even Mount Hood — including a chilling moment when a Sasquatch reached into a tent, just inches from a man’s face. If you're into aggressive encounters, stealthy stalkers, and the mysterious Midwest, you won’t want to miss this one. This is the Hubble ultra deep field photograph. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The original NASA release, containing about 10,000 galaxies of various ages, sizes, shapes, and colors. The smallest, reddest ones are some of the most distant galaxies to have been imaged by an optical telescope, probably existing shortly after the Big Bang. Hubble Deep UV (HDUV) Legacy Survey; 15k galaxies, released August 16, 2018 ABYSS WFC3/IR Hubble Ultra Deep Field; released January 24, 2019 The Hubble Ultra-Deep Field (HUDF) is a deep-field image of a small region of space in the constellation Fornax, containing an estimated 10,000 galaxies. The original data for the image was collected by the Hubble Space Telescope from September 2003 to January 2004 and the first version of the image was released on March 9, 2004.[1] It includes light from galaxies that existed about 13 billion years ago, some 400 to 800 million years after the Big Bang. The HUDF image was taken in a section of the sky with a low density of bright stars in the near-field, allowing much better viewing of dimmer, more distant objects. Located southwest of Orion in the southern-hemisphere constellation Fornax, the rectangular image is 2.4 arcminutes to an edge,[2] or 3.4 arcminutes diagonally. This covers a section of the sky comparable to a tennis ball at one hundred meters. In that small section are at least 10,000 galaxies. Each with at least a million Suns. Each sun has planets orbiting them in the billions. So remember. With all those expected planets in that tiny section of the sky. Add in the rest of even just the half of the sky you can observe from your location. You really believe there couldn't be aliens observing and visiting us? - Last week

Chad writes "Back in 1992, I was stationed at Ft. Lewis in the 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). We were running a force-on-force training operation. I don’t recall the exact location—maybe an hour’s drive from Lewis. Our task was to defend a simulated Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) site consisting of a trailer and container meant to resemble a rocket launcher. We had two Special Forces Operational Detachment Alphas (ODAs) involved, roughly 20 guys total, plus a few support personnel. The site was backed up against the “no play zone,” so any attacking team could only approach from the west. It was fortified: two M-60 machine gun nests, a perimeter of seasoned operators, M-16s for each of us, a couple of HF radios—basic gear for a simulated “enemy” approach. No high-speed tech, no grenade simulators that I can recall. The terrain was layered: a track in front of the site, then woods, then a clean trail parallel to a ridge 150 meters to the west. Beyond that, a large field of tall grass. Ferns covered the ridge slope—dense and knee-to-hip high. Our mission was to intercept and resist any attempt to assault the SAM site, likely between dusk and sunrise. We ran rotating two-man patrols along the trail, each covering a three-hour shift. The night of the encounter, I was paired with a Sergeant First Class—an 18D medic whom I’ll call “Guy.” He’d been in group for years. I was 22 at the time, on of the youngest on site. Moonlight was strong—brilliant enough to allow stealth movement. We paced slowly, stopping every few meters to kneel and scan. After an hour, we paused under a shadowed area. Guy lit a cigarette with quiet precision—no glow exposed. I asked how he did that. He smirked and said, “Sniper check.” Then it happened. A deafening scream rang out from the ridge. At first, I thought it was an animal. But then came a bizarre shift: halfway through, it took on a human tone. Eight to ten seconds of sustained vocalization that morphed into a frantic, incoherent babble… and finally, a coyote-like cackle or laughing sound. The volume never dropped. We scanned the ridge. I spotted a silhouette—a massive figure, turning swaying side to side near a tree at the top of the ridge. It looked human. I thought, “Who in group is that size?” We went guns up. The figure turned north and walked away. We pursued him, assuming a diversion tactic to draw us away from the site. But despite jogging, we couldn’t close the gap. He moved quickly—strangely so. This went on for nearly a kilometer and a half. The forest thickened. The ridge narrowed – bottle necked. And then the figure veered east—straight toward us—charging downhill like a bipedal rhino through underbrush. Not sticks snapping… limbs breaking. I think at this moment, I realized It wasn’t human and started to categorize it. We veered northwest off the trail to intercept. It turned north, the woods were dark – perfect place for a kill zone, an ambush, I could still track its movement. Then… silence. It stopped moving. Total quiet. We crept forward—as noted this was textbook ambush territory. But nothing came. The smell did. It hit in layers. First: wet dog tangled with decay. Then: putrid infection, feces, rot. It overwhelmed me. As the stench peaked, dread set in. Danger. Immediate and primal. I glanced at Guy. He nodded: time to back out. We backed out—me facing rear, unwilling to turn my back. I feared a charge. Surprisingly, Guy was only 15 feet behind. I suspect he walked backward too. Eventually we hit the trail again, dazed. We stood in silence. Not tactical—just stunned. I have no concept of how long we stood there. I remember being totally surprised by how far we went, and how far off the trail we went. Almost like an unexplainable time warp. We never spoke of it again. The only time I had heard what Guy had experienced was later that morning as he debriefed the CO and some of the others. There is much more to this encounter that I would like to discuss with you.” Listen to the Podcast

Not a series on Bigfoot, but this History Unplugged episode of July 22, 2025 is about the U.S. expedition to capture/kill a giant panda in 1929; sorry for the lack of a link to the specific episode, but I am after all a Trogluddite. What is interesting is the first part of the episode, which discusses the scientific dismissal of the idea that pandas existed. Sure, a French priest had sent a fur back to France in the 1860s, but that was not enough to conclude that a new species of animal existed. Hopefully there will be a podcast someday about all the doubters on the existence of Bigfoot being proven wrong. -
