Extremely sad. First and foremost obviously for his family. He seemed a very genuine and likeable man. Secondly for the Bigfoot community, who've lost one of the most intelligent, erudite and respected believers. Thirdly, for the man himself, who sadly never got to see the object of his interest confirmed by the mainstream and never got to study Bigfoot as a proven species rather than a cryptid.

Agreed. Though at least there is some significant evidence. As discussed above with Huntster, it's not unreported, but all reports of kidnapping that I'm aware of are 100 yrs old, thereabouts, or older. Your friend's experience - I've heard a few reports of lifting up tents, running hands across tents, even peering in, but I wouldn't necessarily class them the same as kidnapping - more 'curiosity' for want of a better word. If a human lifted part of your tent on a campsite, they probably wouldnt's face legal consequences. If someone lifted you and carried you off, they certainly would. There's a difference there (btw that is in no way meant to downplay your friend's experience, which must have been horrendously frightening). Again, I have no definitve answers, but I'm not aware of any animal (other than humans of course) that have taken other animals captive, either to eat or later copulate with, or in this instance, copulate with a family member. As you say, the idea of an 800lbs unknown primate is far fetched. Adding kidnapping, sex trafficking and cannibalism as further unproven behavioural leaps to that already unproven primate's behaviour based on a century old story or two is too much for me (again, not saying I'm definitely correct or that it's impossible, just explaining my way of looking at things). Absolutely, you didn't say that. Apologies, I never meant to suggest that you did, but looking back at my post, it does read like I was accusing you of that and I should have been more clear. My actual thinking was that, essentially, the pants are the only thing that seemingly cannot be explained by the mundane - specifically the pants as mentioned in the more sensational versions that I have read/heard, which do include stories of bones in the pants, standing upright (in one account whilst still in the boots). I was just wondering what the actual, provable by independent sources, version was, and whether you or someone else might be able to point me in the direction of such sources. I agree that the RCMP seem entirely useless in this case. From opinions I'ev read, this doesn't seem out of character, as far as SAR and wilderness investigations are concerned. Don't know about the Bauman case, but with Schleyer, it seems to me the most likely explanation is a cardiac arrest or something similar, followed by scavangers (not necessarilty bears). I know he was physically imposing but there are many who have shown no outward sign of issues and died suddenly of such issues. Would fabric have been in the scat? I don't know. I've heard many say that it would, but in doing so their arguments rely on comparing it to the case of Timothy Treadwell. But that's based on the contents of the bear's stomach as inspected after it was killed a day, two tops, after it ate Treadwell. Here, it seems Schleyer died a day or two after he was last seen and no remains were found for 2 1/2 weeks. If the remains were to go through the full digestive tract of a bear, rather than extracted from the stomach, would the clothes still be visible? I have no answer. Either way, if he died of natural causes and scavangers got at him, it wouldn't need to be a bear who ate him. It wouldn't need to be scat within a few feet that would show cloth anyway. another bear could have eaten the clothed parts and not passed it until miles away. I agree that if Bigfoot exists, they would have 'detected' it. But my opinion, as expressed elsewhere, is that the Government will not, and can't objectively be expected to, acknowledge it unless and until it has indisputable proof in the form of a body. FLIR, audio recordings, video recordings, seismic sensors, photographs, sightings, castings etc - these exist for the inspection of the general scientific world. It is not considered sufficient to confirm the existence of the species and can be explained away by misidentification, man in a ghillie suit, bear on two legs, pareidolia, hoax etc. Why would the government take a different stance? Especially if it suits the government's best interest to leave things as they are.

What a loss, really enjoyed watching every video I could find where he was the speaker. RIP

A couple of years ago, our group was putting on a conference in north western Wisconsin. We had Dr. Meldrum lined up as the keynote speaker, and I weaseled my way into picking him up from the Minneapolis airport and was to drive him to the venue. I was so excited because I would have him entirely to myself for several hours. I had so many things I wanted to talk about, but alas, Covid hit and the conference was canceled. I never got the opportunity to delve deep into my favorite topic with him. Fast forward to 2023, I got a call 2 weeks ahead of the Minnesota Bigfoot conference asking me if I could be a presenter, as Dr. Meldrum was scheduled to appear, but had the health episode TD-40 mentioned. I said yes, and made sure everyone at the conference knew how much I admired the man and honored him during my presentation. Sad day, all around.

Yeah, I'm also unsure about that. I've read 30-06, but also thought it was lever action............maybe because of the common saddle mounted rifle scabbards for them. I guess that's another detail scrambled up into uncertainty now. It's remarkable how such details can get so lost over a half century of time.

Somehow I had the impression Gimlin was sporting a lever-action rifle, likely a .30-30Win cartridge. It would surely be more convenient to pack along on horseback.

I did a day long Jeep trip over the Freezeout pass in Idaho last week. Dang close to grizzly country on the Montana border. I took a picture of the two guns I brought with me... A Marlin 1894 carbine and a S&W Model 686. Both in .357 Magnum. I did not feel under-gunned at all. I have spent nearly 50 years in the Idaho wilderness camping, fishing, hunting, shooting, exploring, hiking, ATV riding, off-roading, and just plain relaxing and enjoying nature. All of those activities were done while being armed. In all those years, I was threatened with violence, or felt threatened maybe 4-5 times. Twice was by animals/Bigfoot and the others by people. The worst was a few years ago when me and my dog Rowdy camped at a remote spot on Bonami Creek in a pop-up camper, and a pack of wolves came in and surrounded our camp at night. I was blissfully unaware of the threat having downed a couple or a few 7&7s while listening to satellite radio by the fire. Rowdy was a 105lb Lab/Great Dane mix who was afraid of fire and nothing else. He normally stayed away from it and would lay down behind me as I sat near the fire and drank. But that night, he decided to lay very close to the fire and my rifle... The next day, I awoke with the worst hangover I have ever experienced. I thought I had been shot in the head with a .22. I poured out the remaining Seagrams 7. After I drank a bottle of water and downed a few aspirin, I stumbled outside to the camp and observed Rowdy diligently walking the perimeter of camp, sniffing and marking his territory. I got dressed, grabbed my rifle, and headed up the crude trail behind our campsite. Rowdy was busy peeing on everything and sniffing furiously... I followed him about 25yds from camp and suddenly realized why he had acted so strangely the night before by staying close to the fire, and why he was so obsessed the next day with marking his territory. I found a piece of wolf scat that was very fresh and left while the wolf was in motion and moving away from our camp. It had to have been left within the past 8 hours. I began doing a search of the area around our camp and found sign that a pack of wolves had come in the night before and walked around the perimeter of our camp. No wonder Rowdy was acting so strange the night before! The rifle I had was a Marlin 1894 in .45 Colt, with a Surefire weapon light attached, 6 extra rounds in the butt stock pouch, a green dot optic, and smoothed action. Pretty much the perfect weapon to be holding when a pack of wolves comes in.

I have a researcher buddy that claims something lifted half his tent up late one night with him in it. Why not eat him? Maybe that was the plan? Do you walk in from a grocery store at your house and eat all the groceries in one sitting? No. Huntster is spot on. Ostman believed he was kidnapped as a prospective mate for the “daughter”. Schleyer I never said the clothes were untouched. I said the pants were inside out. His hunting mask was also found with blood on it. Zero fabric was found in any predator scat. No signs of a struggle. He was found by friends and family searchers as well. The RCMP was not helpful. It sounds almost like the Bauman story. Except instead of a bite to the neck? Something snuck up behind Bart and hit him over the head and undressed him and possibly ate part of him. A bear would have ate the mask and the pants. The fabric would have been in the scat. Government They are not looking for Sasquatch. They are watching our borders. They are watching our shores. They are watching our criminals. They are studying our wildlife. They are studying our volcanoes. They are watching our traffic. They are watching our passes. They are watching our ports. And we are not even talking about secret squirrel stuff. Satellites, drones, aircraft, boats, flir cameras, audio recorders, seismic sensors, etc. There is a zero percent chance that they have not detected a 800 lbs primate living under their noses. Once you come to this single lone but obvious conclusion? You realize that you have been lied to! So do not expect the truth from the government. If truth is to be had? Then we have to do it ourselves.🤷🏻‍♂️

I believe people will demand that, and that likelihood is what government doesn't want to manage. I don't believe that. I believe sasquatches are another human species (like Denisovans or Neanderthals) and who are on the verge of extinction. The reason why I believe that is because we have already accepted multiple human species on Earth as recently as 12K-24K years ago, and this theory best fits Occams Rasor (most simple explanation). I also believe that mating between Homo sapiens and sasquatches produce hybrids that can't breed (like Ketchum said) because that fits the lack of sasquatch DNA traces in the aboriginal American genetic record. races

This has happened exactly once that we know of: Zana of Abkhazia. The village she was taken and kept by believed she was an Almas, and it is very understandable why they believed that. She matched the description perfectly. Two genetic studies confirmed that she was homo sapien, and so was definitively a feral human.
