Best Circumstantial Evidence

Prior to the BFRO, there was really nobody (who gave a rat's tail) to report it to. Today it's a piece of cake. You can do it from your easy chair. -
Alaska Bigfoot Cruise - Sept. 11 - 18, 2026
OkieFoot posted a topic in Conferences, Symposiums & Other Get-Togethers
This has to be one of the more unusual Bigfoot conferences, symposiums, etc. This is the 3rd annual Alaska Bigfoot Cruise. It leaves from Seattle on the 11th and will stop in Juneau, Skagway and Sitka. On the way back, they stop in Victoria, B.C. and will have a town hall. The town hall is free for people on the cruise, but is $50 admission for others. The on-board speakers will be Matt Pruitt, Adam Davies, and Jonathan Dover. The speakers for the Victoria Town Hall will be the same three plus Ryan Golembeske. - Today

How would the public be expected to answer this question: If you had an encounter with Bigfoot, would you report it or keep it quiet. I wonder what the break down would be. I guess Bigfoot reports tell us the number of people willing to report it. These numbers just might be under reported year after year if those under reporting are significant. -
Best Circumstantial Evidence
Trogluddite replied to Northern Lights's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
^^^ Absolutely. That's one reason why old reports may be less reliable. Numerous (probably most) encounter reports give only the year, then at best the month and date. However, the inability to remember a date doesn't necessarily taint a witness's report. I can recount in painful detail a jump I made somewhere between '85 and '86 (maybe '87) where the 'chute wrapped around my leg. The fact that I don't remember the date without pulling out my (very short) jump log book doesn't make my recollection of the events any less credible. -
Yep. A "side consideration" in this regard is that the chances that the date of the 'claimed encounter' is misremembered/misreported the more time passes between event and report submission. My own report to BFRO, for instance, was submitted nearly 30 years after the actual event so the best I could do was try to back in to the date based on events and seasons surrounding it, I didn't have a specific record of the date.

I was thinking the same thing! As far as any Bigfoot reports generally it makes me wonder if there is less sigma reporting bigfoot encounters now vs. years past. I'm guessing there is some less sigma but there is still a lot of it. -

^^^ Date of occurrence, to the degree of detail actually reported. Not all websites post date of reporting. A lot of reports from the 50s, 60s, and 70s are reported years or decades after the claimed encounter. For the 2000s, 36% were reported within 30 days of the claimed encounter. After 30 days, but within one year, 18%; after one year, 41%. 4% of the reports didn't provide enough information to draw a conclusion. Overall for 1340 reports, the numbers are 32% (w/in 30 days); 16% (> 30 days to 1 year); 46% (> 1 year); 4% (unknown). -

BFFbot posted a topic in Bigfoot Society Podcast
For nearly 40 years, Gordon kept his experiences to himself. A lifelong outdoorsman who spends more than 100 days each year exploring Michigan's Huron National Forest, Gordon shares firsthand encounters that began in 1988 and continued across decades. His experiences include a towering road crossing near Cook Dam, enormous tracks in the sand, mysterious tree structures, deep nighttime vocalizations, wood knocks, and an unseen presence pacing him through the forest after dark. With encounters near Glennie, Oscoda Township, and the Au Sable River, this episode offers an extraordinary look into one of Michigan's most active Bigfoot regions through the eyes of someone who knows these woods better than almost anyone. If you enjoy authentic eyewitness accounts, wilderness mysteries, and respectful conversations about the unexplained, this is an episode you won't want to miss. π Follow Jeremiah's cancer health updates here: https://www.caringbridge.org/site/569ef3d3-68be-11f1-8790-97fdfd2bbc64 π£οΈ Share Your Story Had a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience? Hello, my interest in bigfoot started years ago as a kid. It went away until I decided to embrace it for real a couple of years ago! I went on a BFRO expedition in New Mexico, and might possibly have had an experience... not exactly sure, but have some great pics. Now I'm in Florida and would love to get in with folks and learn all that I can.

There is not much information about Tom Slick's first foray in finding the Abominable Snowman; this piece from the Winston-Salem (NC) Journal on March 15, 1956, treats it as a side note to the adventures of local globe-trotters. -

I first found mention of this encounter in The Bigfoot Casebook Updated by Janet and Colin Bord and sad to say, their truncated version (like the truncated version found on Bigfoot Encounters) appears to be inaccurate. A Google search let me to the Southern Oregon History website run by one Ben Truwe; this can be found at https://www.truwe.sohs.org/files/index.html. This webpage posts the entire newspaper article published in the Coquille City (OR) Herald on May 2, 1899. While this newspaper has only 4 pages available in Newspapers.com, the University of Oregon has a large collection of historic Oregon newspapers. Here is the article. -

California 1897 - Three Matah Kagmi Rescue Snakebit Man
Trogluddite posted a topic in More Historical Newspaper Archives
I found this story referenced in The Bigfoot Casebook Updated by Janet and Colin Bord. I have not found the original source, a magazine titled Many Smokes National American Indian Magazine's Fall 1968 issue. However, it can be found on the Bigfoot Encounters website on the Legends page and on various other Bigfoot related websites. There is also a children's book titled Matah Kagmi : Stories Related to the Woodland Prophecies. Here is AI's summary of the Matah Kagmi. Overview of Matah Kagmi Encounters Matah Kagmi, known as the "Keepers of the Woods," are legendary creatures similar to Sasquatch, recognized by the Modoc and Klamath tribes in Northern California and Southern Oregon. These encounters often blend folklore with personal experiences. Notable Encounters Grandfather's Experience Initial Encounter: A Modoc man, referred to as Grandfather, had a significant encounter with Matah Kagmi. He described seeing two soft brown eyes and offered fish as a gesture of friendship. The creature accepted the offering and made a memorable sound. Second Encounter: After being bitten by a rattlesnake while searching for treasure on Mount Shasta, Grandfather fainted. Upon regaining consciousness, he found himself surrounded by three Matah Kagmi. They treated his snakebite by removing venom and applying cool moss, showcasing their perceived intelligence and care. Modern Context Sacred Springs Retreat: The Sacred Springs retreat center, located in the wilderness of Mount Shasta, has become a site for spiritual seekers. However, it has also been associated with mysterious disappearances and renewed rumors of Matah Kagmi sightings. Visitors report unusual encounters, adding to the lore surrounding these creatures. Cultural Significance Matah Kagmi stories reflect the deep connection between the Modoc and Klamath tribes and their environment. These encounters serve as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage and the mysteries that still exist in the wilderness. -

Sure - 229 of those reports came after the first episode aired in September of 2003. Might also be due to the BFRO having a working website - that's a guess as I had no thoughts about Bigfoot at that time. -

Standing beneath an ancient twisted oak, Jaden describes coming face-to-face with a towering figure whose body appeared blacker than the surrounding night, leaving only brilliant white eyes visible in the darkness. He also recounts mysterious aerial lights, unexplained howls, strange tracks, glowing eyes at the edge of the woods, rhythmic drumming, and years of recurring activity surrounding the same property near Belton, Texas. Fascinating! And, I totally agree when you said: "Then there's the awareness you're being tracked/hunted, which is something all sorts of animals display." Just try squashing a fast cockroach/waterbug! They are about 350 million years ahead of humans in evolution and they can virtually disappear. I wonder why Koko was a one-off? Perhaps she had a beneficial mutation that apparently was never passed-on (no kids). Although I did read that she adopted several cats.
