Published in Poulson's American Daily Advertiser, a Philadelphia newspaper. My best estimate is that this event occurred north or west of Lake of the Woods, Ontario or Minnesota, rather than the lake of that name in Oregon (I believe). This one has all the hallmarks of being a Bigfoot or Sasquatch. Remember, in early printing what looks like an "f" is really an "s."

Bohemia would now be in the western Czech Republic. No mention of hair or great size, so a Czech Bigfoot seems unlikely. Published in the Blairsville (PA) Record on October 22, 1834.

Old Slipperyskin merits only three mentions in the Forums even though he harassed Roger's Rangers during their retreat from Canada, terrorized several towns in Vermont, and caused one gubernatorial candidate to lose an election. I originally discovered a good round-up of Old Slipperyskin encounters on the Vermonter Blog in 2013; they've updated the story with glitzy art and better formatting since then. Random observations that I'll update from time to time: * For some period of time, the "wild man of Borneo," likely an orangutan, was a popular sideshow in even the smallest carnival or "shop of horrors." However, there being a general shortage of orangutans in the United States, many places hired someone to portray the "wild man." I've run across many such stories, but will only be posting one or two that are particularly noteworthy. * Similarly, people with mental health problems who subsisted as best they could in the woods were often identified as a "wild man." Again, I'm not posting the many stories I've encountered where it appears clear that it is a person, not a Bigfoot, described. For example, if the "wild man" uses a rifle or runs a local speakeasy, its an interesting story but its not relevant to the Forums. * Also there are cases where violent criminals are identified as a "wild man." In at least one of those cases, the author of a book used a truncated version of the story which made it sound like an attack was committed by an unknown, upright, hairy bipedal creature. But upon finding a longer version of that story, it is clear that the "wild man" was a common rapist. * Lastly, for now, it's surprisingly difficult to find a specific story. I went through Tirademan's posts in the Archives and cross-referenced them to those saved by Gigantor to identify those that are missing. Even with fairly specific information and a limited time frame specified, its possible that the search will be completely fruitless with no results or overwhelming with an avalanche of results.

Connecticut was apparently overrun by wild men in the early 1900s - this appears to be a different report than Tirademan found, although I haven't mapped it.

Thank you - although I was hoping to fly under the radar for a bit. Quite the big shoes to be following Tirademan's work in finding the old articles and Gigantor's work curating some of them.

From the August 3, 1838, edition of the Baltimore (MD) Sun. Versions of this story can be found in The Bigfoot Casebook by Janet and Colin Bord; Bigfoot in New York and New England by Paul and Robert Bartholomew (even though the encounter was in Pennsylvania!), and Bigfoot in Pennsylvania by Timothy Renner.

This same news article was printed in the Mount Carmel Item (Mount Carmel, PA) on October 5, 1935. I'm not adding the clip as it is identical, but I find it counter-intuitive that such stories would get such widespread distribution in smaller newspapers so long ago.

My apologies, the above newspaper article appeared in The Scranton Republic, not in a newspaper from Indiana County, PA. The day after the above article ran, a Wilkes-Barre paper, The Times Leader, ran a slightly longer version - or, since this was one of my early efforts at clipping old news articles, I clipped the Scranton one short....
