Yeah, I can't figure it out. His remains were found several yards off one of the two possible trails he could have used to access his cabin. Troopers supposedly sent working dogs up both trails. Eventually, a neighbor homesteader found him. There was nothing left but bones, clothing, and his daypack. For me, it was yet another lesson that one can literally lay down near a well used trail and disappear, whether you're a sniper, sasquatch, Siberian tiger, or dead old man.
-
I agree. But you cannot throw the baby out with the bath water. I definitely think there are strange disappearances on national forests. Dennis Martin and Travis Walton come to mind. And despite my misgivings of Matilda and Ketchum DNA studies? I am thankful Paulides has brought this to our attention.

That was an interesting case, thank you for posting it. Sounds like a prepared camper with an accident that could not be handled alone. Never apologize for bumping an old thread - that's far better than having six threads on the same topic IM(not so)HO. I think both of these comments on grid searches are congruent, not contradictory. While repeated grid searches of the same area should turn up something, an initial search may have a lower degree of confidence as to thoroughness. Several of the much more experienced members of my team often told me that you never got above 75% confidence in a search and even 50% was rare because when you are searching a large area with dense underbrush/growth/rockfields/downed trees/etc., it's harder than most people realize to spot a relatively small object (like a human body) in those circumstances. For example, on one search that had at least 100 searchers in a NY state park, the body was missed during the first search because (most likely) the subject had jumped off a cliff to commit suicide and ended up deep in a crevice between boulders. The searchers at the section had used drones and were on foot, but I understand it particularly hazardous and probably half of the time they were concentrating on not becoming someone who needed rescued themselves. Also, there had been some snowfall after the subject's disappearance. Remains were found in the spring. In my experience in New York, the DEC-ran searches focused on expanding the search area if initial searches were unsuccessful rather than going back over the same ground.

This is one of the puzzling issues Paulides has illuminated over the years regarding his Missing 411 reports. An area will be methodically grid-seached several times yet the missing person will ultimately be found in that grid. I was a SAR member for years and when you grid-search an area several times, you can take it to the bank there is nothing there. How the missing person ended up in that location no one knows which makes those cases particularly perplexing.

Years of Sasquatch Activity in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains!
BFFbot posted a topic in Bigfoot Society Podcast
In this episode of Bigfoot Society, we travel into Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains to hear a firsthand account that developed slowly, quietly, and persistently. After moving into a rural Appalachian home, artist Christina Salois began noticing subtle disturbances that gradually became harder to dismiss. Unusual sounds inside the house. Animals reacting to something unseen near the treeline. Objects appearing in unexpected places. Signs in the yard that felt intentional rather than random. Some moments were deeply unsettling. Others felt strangely meaningful. As time passed, the activity seemed to respond to attention, awareness, and place. Guests experienced things they could not explain. Physical traces appeared where none should have existed. Certain events raised questions about proximity, awareness, and whether something was paying attention. This episode explores what long-term encounters can look like when they happen close to home — and how they change the people living with them. 🗣️ Share Your Story Had a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience? I am friends with Nathanfooter too! I didn't put the channel on the poll simply because it’s a smaller channel and wasn't sure if people would know it. We made a channel for them in the researcher section! Love those guys!👍

I voted for other: Study Sasquatch https://www.youtube.com/@studysasquatch/videos I know the guys presenting and can attest that they are serious, professional, and doing some of the best research in the field today. Not as entertaining as the stories told in Flash of Beauty, but it is all about field research - trying to get data, and showing methods and results.

Best Bigfoot YouTube Channel
Silverback Sax replied to norseman's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
For me, I am suspicious of the "shows" that vet the stories sent in by the public. It feels a little too scripted and rehearsed. The stories often conform to a narrative. I know that Steve Isdahl (the facts...) reads the email submissions word for word. He will respectfully call BS when the submissions sounds like a fake. Frankly, I think most folks can tell the difference too. I don't come to this topic for entertainment. I want to hear what folks just like me have experienced. Let's face it, YouTube and TV in general aren't exactly the best place to look for factual information. As my Grandmother used to say, "consider the source." - Yesterday

Why isn't Bigfoot in a Zoo?
Silverback Sax replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
If these upright bipedal human like beings some folks call Bigfoot, were merely an unclassified forest ape, they would totally be in a zoological environment. I don't believe they are. Why no trail cam footage? Simple. They can see in the IR spectrum of light. Again, just my belief. After reading and listening to people's independent reports and experiences, I don't need proof. Eye witness testimony is good enough for a court of law ... and me too. -

Huntster replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
This, which is exactly what Patterson and Gimlin did. Their chosen area of operations had both recent reports and a solid 12 year history of reports. I still think that the Freeman Map is a pretty good guide on a sasquatch hunt. It features general pathways used and seasonal timelines. -

Search and interact with bigfoot..................do's and don'ts.
Backdoc replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
We don't have a Bigfoot, so we don't know for sure how bigfoot lives. Bigfoot's skillset allows him to stay largely hidden. This might be from Luck or Ability. I might be there are just too few out there. We can't really plan to win the lottery. It does require a chance which is buying a ticket. More tickets increase your chances of winning. I know my chances of winning the lottery are 1 in million but every now and then someone out there wins. I would say Bob and Roger won the lottery. They won a rare encounter. We can try to mimic all they did and even if we do it right, the odds are we come up empty. The exception might be to use their method in an area of solid recent bigfoot activity. This made it even possible. Their skill or dumb luck further helped them. This included horseback, creek noise, obscured approach from the crow's nest root ball, and so on. It didn't hurt they were persistent willing to search repeatedly for weeks. Good Outdoorsmen can make a list what to pack for a Bigfoot hunt. If bigfoot knows you are coming, he will be gone before you arrive. Looking for Bigfoot was summed up nicely from a post I read years ago: Bigfoot is like KGB: You don't find them, they find you. -
There is another aspect to Paulides. We have to remember that he claims .. and his bigfoot books Tribal Bigfoot and Hoopa Project support this .. that he is the one who brought Melba Ketchum into the bigfoot world. He continues to support the authenticity of her "study" yet it is a clear hoax from purchasing the journal which still has never published a second paper to providing DNA strings which do not add up to what she claims they add up to to any number of shady shenanigans intended to suppress evidence of her misdoing. Until he separates himself from that quackery, I don't trust his judgement or his claims. If he is even half as smart as he claims to be, he KNOWS exactly what he's embracing. We are rightly judged by the company we choose to keep. I feel the same about Scott Carpenter and Steve Isdahl, the difference is, even beyond those two, Paulides should know better. MIB

Bigfoot isn't in a zoo for the same reason Amelia Erhart's plane isn't in a museum. It's out there, but no one has found it definitively yet. As far as a zoo goes, I used to want Bigfoot in a zoo. Then, as I got older, I had second thoughts. This further struck home with me when watching this Bigfoot researcher from Bigfoots Reflection: He said essentially: if we caught bigfoot what do we do with him? I go to the zoo and watch apes and they seem...sad. I happen to agree with this now. I selfishly wanted Bigfoot in a zoo when I was younger. Now, it would be enough to have proof such a rare thing exists and let it be free.
