Several years ago, when I was active on the JREF/International Skeptics Forum, I ended up betting that Sasquatch would be scientifically proven by X date, which was a couple of years in the future. In the negotiations, I was able to talk them into giving me odds of 50,000 to 1, so I put up $50. That X date came and went and I paid $50 to a charity of his choice. It was fun and added something to the back and forth banter that I dealt with on that site. I wasn't ever going to collect $2.5 million if science finally proved they exist, but I was willing to put my money up for the cause.

I don't know how they define "found" either. I am hoping someone well versed in odds and gambling can clarify the article I found. Better yet, they might even stumble across a more detailed betting site which includes betting on Bigfoot. We all know impossible if 0% chance of something and certainty is 100% of something. I suppose everything else is just some range of likelihood between 0 and 100

I gather a set-up akin to a bowfishing rig on a crossbow with low power draw and tipped bolt that has a stop, like the business end of a ski pole or somesuch. I'm sure it's doable, it's getting it into the hands of a prepared individual, in the right place, at the right time--the usual wrench in the works...

So, just why are you here? -
OntarioSquatch, it is difficult to say which, if any, of these samples were contaminated. Details are rarely reported. In my case, however, my DNA matches exactly the human reference sequence, rCRS (revised Cambridge Reference Sequence), over the limited range that I sequenced, so any mutations from the reference that I found cannot be from me. They could however be from other humans in the woods. Many of the mutations I found were either very rare or nonexistent in the NCBI database, which is extensive. One of my samples had a mutation shared by a coworker, so I excluded it. Every person who collects samples should have his complete mtDNA sequence on file for just this reason.

It must have been really fun realizing that my evidence proving that what I said was a fact, especially when my evidence was a quote of you admitting that it's all in your head. -

It Charged Me From 30 Feet — The New Hampshire Sasquatch Encounter
BFFbot posted a topic in Bigfoot Society Podcast
What happens when a new hunter heads into the woods of New Hampshire — and finds something waiting for him in the pines? In this gripping and terrifying episode, we speak with Alex, a fisherman-turned-hunter from Manchester, NH, who shares the moment his life changed forever. While hunting in Bear Brook State Park, Alex encountered what he first thought was a demon — glowing eyes, a massive sprinting figure, and something intelligent that moved through the trees just 30 feet away. He shares his firsthand experience, the fear that kept him out of the woods for over a year, and why he finally went back. You’ll hear stories of wood knocks, distant whistles, and footsteps so heavy they shook the ground. This is more than a sighting — it’s a face-to-face moment with something that may not be entirely of this world. If you've ever hunted in New England, this is one episode you won't forget. 🗣️ Share Your Story Had a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience? I have a lot of bad habits, but gambling isn't one of them, so I'm sure my numbers are wacked out. Also I'm not sure what "found" means. If that means acknowledged, then 0% chance. If found means hundreds of random human minding their own business having an unexpected, unplanned, unwanted, and overwhelming interaction with a forest person, then 100%. I would be happy to not join that club ;>)

and I was told this forum was dying. great thread. thanks all.

There’s a long history of alleged Bigfoot samples showing modern human DNA. Were those all the result of contamination?
-
Obviously security would still be in place. With lethal means to defend the sample taker if the situation went south. Hopefully “Patty” would just keep walking and after she left the scene we go collect the dart. She wasn’t harmed and we have her genome.
-
Very much. The biopsy dart is only taking a flesh sample. Its not injecting anything into the target. It leaves a small wound that will quickly heal after the dart falls out or is pulled out. Scientists use both crossbows and pneumatic air guns depending on the application.

I Didn’t Know Sasquatch Were in Wisconsin - Bigfoot Eyewitness Episode 479
BFFbot posted a topic in Bigfoot Eyewitness Radio
Tonight’s guest, Titus, grew up in Southern Wisconsin and had his Sasquatch sighting about 20 years ago. He had his sighting while he was at a hobby farm a friend of his mother owned. Joining Titus and his mother was one of Titus’ siblings. Even though his mother and that sibling were merely 50 feet away from him, when he saw the Sasquatch, calling out to them never crossed his mind. He was so gob smacked, due to the experience, trying to bring their attention to the Sasquatch he was staring at was something he never considered doing. As fate would have it, years later, two of his siblings had their own sightings too. On tonight’s show, Titus is not only going to be sharing the details of his sighting, he’s going to share the details of the sightings his siblings had too. We hope you listen to him do that. Some people are leary of any tranquilizing dart as the dosage is unknown at present-kill with too much or be killed with too little. Is a biopsy dart any different? Or without a tranquilizer, how do you remove a dart from a dangerous animal?

What do you think of the US Forest Service's view on bigfoot?
norseman replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
It wasn’t mean to degrade you in anyway. Your opinion is a popular one, trust me. What would it change? Much. Well for starters it would shut up all the nay sayers that make fun of the topic. It would also be a stark warning for anyone that ventures outdoors. 411 books? Don’t hike alone. Don’t wear bright colors. Etc. I also think it would be profound for humanity to suddenly realize we are not the only species in our genus. If it plays out that way. That a bipedal relative still shares the planet with us? Science would study this for the next 100 years. Official scientific recognition would also bring about profound changes in resource extraction on public lands. There would be environmental impact studies that would come about because of this discovery. A 800 lbs primate in North America would make the spotted owl pale by comparison. And the bottom line is that it would expand human knowledge. If science can miss this? What else are we missing? What’s in our oceans? Our cave systems? Under the poles? Our jungles? Maybe this discovery would light a fire in humanity’s belly to get out and explore Mother Nature. We have become a species of electronic alternative reality. And it’s not a good thing IMHO. -

Well. That sure puts me in my place! Lather rinse repeat. However, you didn't answer what official recognition would change for you. -
I took a interest in those blood samples too! Very interesting. I know many in our community do not think that TV show is legit. But with a real scientist as a member and all of the DNA sampling? I hold out hope. I don't know if I ran this past you before. But what if we used biopsy darts? People are squeamish about killing one, but many researchers claim full on sightings? What if we developed a biopsy dart kit for researchers? It would beat dental resin and grainy videos all to heck in terms of real hard evidence?
