Is this rock clacking or a known forest critter?
CryptidTalk replied to FelixTheCat's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
I appreciate your detail in the numbers! I know how time consuming it is. I’m in the beginning concept development for a book and it is a lot of research and number crunching. Thanks for the work you do! - Today

Is this rock clacking or a known forest critter?
Trogluddite replied to FelixTheCat's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
Surprisingly, the numbers are probably better than that. I have a database of over 1200 encounters in the northeast US and eastern Canada that comes from encounters reported to newspapers and research groups (BFRO, Gulf Coast Bigfoot, reports here) and numerous other sources. I wring as many details out of each report as I can and grade them. I am a harsh grader as most of my 37-year career involved detecting fraud in one way or the other. Right now I have 679 of these reports graded out. - Only 75 (11%) are clearly fraud, fabrication, or miss-identifications (whether admitted, outed by internet sleuths, or otherwise) - The vast majority of reports (400/almost 60%) are simply insufficient to establish that an encounter occurred based on factors that are well established for determining whether an individual is credible and has met their burden of persuasion (i.e., you don't believe that the person is lying about the claimed events, but even accepting their testimony as true, it doesn't establish what they are claiming). - A quarter of these reports (171/25%) are sufficiently detailed (and in some cases corroborated by contemporaneous and credible evidence) that a reasonable person could conclude that an encounter with Bigfoot occurred. However, the reasonable person standard is low - a different reasonable person could conclude that an encounter with Bigfoot did not occur. - Darn. That adds up to 95%, pretty much what you said. I am only comfortable in stating that in 33 (5%) of the 679 reported encounters I've looked at is it more likely than not that a Bigfoot was encountered. Note that "more likely than not" is only 50.0001%, not beyond a reasonable doubt. Didn't see that coming. Next time I'll run the numbers first. Although, most cases that I put in the "reasonable to believe" category would be "more likely than not" for a lot of people. Actually, in at least three reported and documented encounters in the northeast US and eastern Canada, groups of 3-4 Bigfoot were seen by witnesses and the description is always "1 really big, 1 large but not as big, and 1 or more juveniles or essentially toddlers." I wouldn't be surprised if there were similar reports from western Canada and the Pacific northwest. -
Thank you! In hindsight, there were at least two other trips where we should have had an emergency locator. Although, if we had one on the first trip, I would have wimped out and pushed the button rather than set my broken arm and hike out two miles for my wife to drive me to the hospital.

Beautiful pics! Looking forward to our first trip to Banff (other side from you?) this fall.

Okay, a better statement is that there are limited documented or reported sightings. If a sighting occurs in the woods and it isn't reported to a research group, then it doesn't add to the base of knowledge about Bigfoot. Why would a research group, such as the BFRO, the Forums, or whatever group exists in Massachusetts ridicule witnesses? Numerous people have given detailed accounts of their sightings here on the Forums; I don't recall any of them being ridiculed. In fact, the Forums management has banished members who ridicule other members and/or their reported accounts. I'm sure that the Forums' membership would welcome a description of these encounters (usually in the sightings Forum, Massachusetts reports would go in the northeast sightings subforum). If the report was detailed enough, they would likely be added to the SSR (the Forums' database) so that other researchers, who may be more reserved about posting, can use them in their research. I post about things I research online because despite quite a bit of hiking in the Daks, Catskills, Canada, out west, and several grid searches in remote woods in New York, I haven't had an encounter, seen a track, heard a knock, or found any wood structure/manipulation that's attributable to anything other than nature or humans. Since I don't have the good fortune of knowing they exist through a first hand encounter (the only real way to know until someone puts a body (or two?) on a slab for dissection), the only thing that will persuade me one way or the other is research. I haven't questioned your claims, merely added context to assist others to make their own decisions about them. Look forward to hearing more reports from your research. As noted above, it seems to be a potential example of the halibut effect (which I note for newcomers is described on the BFRO website, in Cliff Barackman's podcasts, and probably somewhere here in the forums). -
After another week of nasty wet weather, the weekend turned sunny and warm, so my son and I headed out to the mountains in search of sasquatch sign, as well as having bear and cougar tags for the spring season, just in case. We chose to check out the Hunter Creek watershed, SW of Hope, BC, which climbs very steeply from the floor of the Fraser Valley into a system of old logging roads that extend over 30km or so into the various branches of Hunter Creek. The scenery was great, but we couldn't reach the ends of any of the roads due to heavy wet snow drifts at the higher elevations wherever the track was shaded. There were lots of birds, but the only mammals spotted were a pair of marmots sunning on a rockpile at about 1500' elevation.

I use the Zoleo device, which works much like the others, paired to your cellphone for texting. I got mine a few years ago when it was on sale at Cabela's with a free subscription to Gaia Premium Maps. I've had to use it once when I was foolish enough to get stuck in deep crusted snow on a mountain top in Feb. a couple of years ago. As the sun set, the temp dropped to -10C plus wind chill, and I could only work outside of the truck for 10 minutes at a time before having to jump back in and run the heater to warm up again. It took a couple of hours for help to arrive, but it beat risking a potentially deadly 16 km hike out in the dark. It really doesn't matter which one you get, just get it!!

Listen, the 1977 event is not the only sighting. That was a description of a Bigfoot, and I know a person who in the last ten years, had two separate sightings in the same woods, but you won't find the reports online because she never reported them. I think most people don't report their sightings. What is to be gained by reporting a sighting? Potential ridicule is not worth the risk for most people. If they are spooked by it, they just won't go back. I myself had a sighting in the same area, and again I did not report it. Why would I report it, I already know they are there. Should I start sending in reports to the BFRO so that people researching from their computers will have something to click on? -

In this gripping episode, we sit down with Eric — a seasoned truck driver with over 40 years behind the wheel — who opens up about five Bigfoot sightings and two chilling encounters across the backroads and swamps of Florida. From creatures moving at what locals call "psycho speed" to something slamming into his parked truck — twice — Eric’s story takes us deep into a Florida hot zone that few know exists. He’s seen white, black, and even red-haired beings; he’s watched one disappear into thorny brush, and he’s felt another watching him from the pitch-black pasture. Eric doesn’t just believe Bigfoot exists — he knows, and after this conversation, you might start to believe too.🛻 Florida swamp roads 🦶 Bigfoot running on all fours 👀 Watching from the dark 💥 Trucks getting rocked 🔊 You won’t hear another story like this. What scientific campaigns are we missing?

This is the link he posted recently on his Facebook group. https://sites.google.com/ncsu.edu/darbyorcutt/ He posted an update yesterday to state around 100 samples have been submitted so far and roughly half of them have been received. Their first round of testing has been completed and they are adding new geneticists not their lineup. - That’s a very condensed version of what he posted. -

Thanks @CryptidTalk I wasn't aware of Darby Orcutt's work at NC State. He doesn't have an active link to the project on his NCSU profile page (https://chass.ncsu.edu/people/dcorcutt/) and the BRFO last updated the study status in Aug 2023 (https://www.bfro.net/news/hair_DNA_project.asp). Does the project have a website and do you have a link you can share? If not, I might reach out to Orcutt and see what's up. I did notice that Radford is already taking aim at the study (http://skepdigest.awardspace.us/Bigfoot-Dead.pdf). -

The agencies that watch our border like a hawk? They have to know. Border Patrol and Coast Guard. Thermals do not lie. Our own military around military installations? How many Army helicopter flights go in and out of Ft. Lewis every year? How many are at night when these guys are using night vision and FLIR to fly terrain flying? How many clear cuts and roads and fields and meadows do they fly over? USFS and USFW and state wildlife agencies and biologists? How many camera traps are out there? I know they detect anomalies because sometimes they get leaked to the public. (The Eagle cam is what I am thinking of right now) Law enforcement? I have a buddy that was National Air guard for Washington state. He flew on a twin engine FLIR plane that was used to track the green river killer. He watched as he pulled over on a country road and got out to urinate. They are flying so high and in cloud cover the guy had no idea he was being watched. This was 20 years ago! Every federal, state and local law enforcement agency has surveillance in cases they are working. I don’t know if it’s a collective suppression of evidence. I cannot say. But where ever this data gets filed away too? Whomever are they gate keepers? They absolutely know! Does the boots on the ground park ranger know?🤷♂️ Foreign countries got brought up. I know the CCP had an official search going. But I would take everything they say with a grain of salt. And I have no idea of the validity of the claims coming from there. -
Thanks. I was surprised at how infrequently this topic came up on the Forums.

So this appears to be Cowee Pond, a reservoir for Gardner, Mass. It's about 1/2 mile north of Green Street/Rte. 140 and about 2.5 miles north of Gardner proper (distances based on a rough Google Earth measurement. This is a much better potential location for an encounter, given that less of the wooded hills in the area have been paved over and that some reasonable green space exists up to and through New Hampshire. However, it still has been a Bigfoot desert. BFRO report #8717 took place close by, but in 1977. There were a cluster of reports near Ipswich, NH, but these took place in 1895 - these were reported in the Boston Globe as a gorilla. I originally ran across the stories on the Cryptomundo website, but can't tell you much more than that. Perhaps the halibut effect in action? - Yesterday

night912 replied to FelixTheCat's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
Actually, that's a misconception that a lot of people make. Absence of evidence is evidence of absence where the evidence should be there. An example of this is medical tests. If someone thinks that they have a disease or infection, then there should be evidence of it. But if the test results shows that there's no signs of the disease or infection, then they don't have the disease or infection. -
What were the strange, hair-covered "whistlers" encountered by ancient Chinese woodsmen? What about the eerie, chest-beating "monsters" described in the legends of Indigenous Americans? And what can be made of strange tales of "wild men" encountered in various parts of the world throughout the Middle Ages? Could these early accounts actually represent records of historical hominoids that have been recorded throughout time? If Sasquatch exists in the modern world, then these enigmatic relict hominoids must have also existed alongside humankind since the dawn of modern homo sapiens. If so, where are the historical accounts that describe such creatures? A sticking point for many skeptics, the presumed absence of humanlike creatures in the historic record has become a point often used in arguments to demonstrate that no such creatures exist. In this episode of Sasquatch Tracks, the team takes a deep dive into observations of "historical hominoids" with a look at ancient accounts of what may be relict hominoids from around the world. From early times to the present, the team offers a fascinating exploration of the history behind this enduring mystery. Follow Sasquatch Tracks on Twitter. Got a news tip or story to share? Actually you're using confirmation bias for the things you find . I won't call it evidence . Has anyone ever seen Bigfoot building a structure ? No but look at your posts ....Has to be a bigfoot in your other posts of the stick structures you found. N ...That's confirmation bias The structures that you have been told that kids and people build them ...a lot in the woods . Hell I passed one today while hiking with the dog in the woods. There's tons of people who will go out and practice bushcraft . When ever someone points something out you dismiss it and fall back to I know it's the forest people doing this. You are not doing this subject any good by always thinking everything is a bigfoot or what you like to call forest people but you can't see that . -

FelixTheCat replied to FelixTheCat's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
I was looking for an expert in bird sounds, not a critique of my experiences. You claim bigfoot lives in clans, have you ever seen a clan? Has anyone on this site ever seen a clan? Pure conjecture. You also claim that bigfoot are migratory. Did you install ankle bracelets on them to figure this out? I have personal experience that says they stay put in the winter, only closer to their inner sanctum. I don't have confirmation bias, because I let the evidence speak for itself, and I ask others for their opinions. I don't just parrot what the rest of the so-called experts say, because actual factual evidence is rare, and too many assumptions are being made about it. -
Just trying to give this thread a bump so newer members and interested members see more about this book; really, its petty larceny to get this book for only $20.

CryptidTalk replied to FelixTheCat's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
I agree with this POV. I certainly believe Bigfoot is real, but is incredibly rare. I would say 90%+ of sightings are deliberate hoaxes or misidentifications. Most sounds in the woods can be explained by something else. And should be approached skeptically and assumed to be something else unless all other potential answers are eliminated. -

Okay I guess there's probably a Bigfoot clan living in my back yard then . Don't become one of those where everything you see and hear is a Bigfoot . You can't research this subject with confirmation bias because it never works and you see plenty of yahoos on Bigfoot youtube channels thinking every noise and tree break is bigfoot That's all I'm saying man. -

Absolutely. I find it incredible people look at his skeletal overlay and think it’s accurate. The pelvis is WAY too low. We can see Patty’s butt crack. That’s a huge visual clue as to where the pelvis should be located. it’s a bit strange his entire PDNA theory is based on 1 single frame of Patty. Surely you’d repeat it over multiple frames to reinforce your idea. Or even create an animation so you can make sure the limb/joint placements work with natural looking movement.
