  2. The scientists will surely lose their Scientist Cards, as this paper approaches plain English and is relatively accessible to the layperson.... PrimateColorVision.pdf
  3. I realize that I am a true trogluddite, but with statements like the following, I have to wonder if scientists are as smart as they think they are ... from page 2, "If there is no spread of adaptation from one cone type to another, one would predict a lack of spatial spread of adaptation." Sounds like NS2 to me, but maybe someone here is much smarter than I am and can make sense of this paper and whether it offers value to Bigfooters. PrmateConeVision.pdf

  6. The January 1969 edition of Reader's Digest condensed an article entitled Does an "Abominable Snowman" Lurk in the Rockies? written by James B. Shuman for West Magazine. This article includes a lot of historical information which is likely known to Forums members and was not focused on the Patterson-Gimlin Film or that encounter. It offers limited information on the P-G film, likely taken by the original author from other magazines and newspaper articles. I have requested a reprint from Reader's Digest, but have not received it to date. Therefore, I'll use the following extract from Bobbi Short's (RIP) Bigfoot Encounters website at http://www.bigfootencounters.com/, which includes what appears to be a full copy of the article under the Newspaper and Magazine Articles tab. "Perhaps the most intriguing evidence is a 16-mm color movie made in 1967 by Roger Patterson, a 34-year-old Yakima, Washington rancher. Long interested in Sasquatch-Bigfoot, Patterson had become convinced that the only w, ay to prove its existence was to get clear photographs. In October 1967, he heard of fresh tracks along Bluff Creek in northern California. Patterson and Bob Gimlin, an experienced animal tracker, set out to investigate. They scouted the area on horseback for a week and a half. Early in the afternoon of October 20, they came to a bend in the creek where a gigantic stump, overturned by a flood, obscured the view ahead. Patterson's horse stopped and snorted, then reared and fell on its side. Moments later, Patterson saw what had startled his mount. "This creature was on my left, about ~ 95 feet across the creek," he recalls. "Its head was very human, though considerably more slanted, and with a large forehead and wide nostrils. Its arms hung almost to its knees when it walked. Its hair was two to four inches long, brown underneath, lighter at the top, and covering the entire body except for the face. And it was a female; it had big, pendulous breasts." Patterson reached into his saddlebag and grabbed his movie camera. The creature, meanwhile, was walking across a sandbar toward the hillside. Patterson began trotting after it, shooting pictures. At one point, the creature turned and stared curiously at the camera. Then it went into the woods and out of sight. Gimlin began to give chase, but Patterson, who had used up all his film, told him to stop. "I didn't want to be there alone, without a weapon," he says."

  11. What happens when unexplained encounters follow you across the country? In this episode of Bigfoot Society, Andrea shares a chilling journey that stretches from the woods of Maryland, through rural West Virginia, and deep into Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. What begins as strange sounds and unsettling activity slowly becomes something harder to dismiss—patterns, proximity, and moments that feel far too intentional. Years of experiences, multiple locations, and the growing realization that whatever she encountered may have been aware of her long before she understood what was happening. 14. We will be speaking to Adam. Adam had two encounters in WA state, one when he was with his father and many years later while he was stationed on Fort Lewis. Adam describes being on Fort Lewis and during a training exercise catching glimpses of two creatures. Prior to seeing them they were screamed at from two different directions. Adam said everyone climbed into their Stryker (Eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicles). Something came up to the vehicle. Listen to the Podcast

  20. This is a special preview of Bigfoot Society Episode A22, available in full to members. Thank you for listening and for supporting the work that allows these encounters to be shared carefully and preserved long term. In this preview, you’ll hear excerpts from a powerful lineup of witnesses whose experiences span remote rivers, national forests, mountain ranges, and back roads across the United States. These voices come from people who lived ordinary lives until a single moment forced them to question what shares the wilderness with us.The episode includes accounts connected to Idaho river country, an Oregon Forest Service cabin, a rural North Carolina roadway, the mountains of Colorado, an isolated Ohio back road, and the deep forests of Washington’s Cascade Range. Each location carries its own atmosphere, and each witness brings details that only make sense when heard in their own words. You’ll get a sense of encounters involving strange movement in heavy brush, sounds that seem to respond intelligently, road crossings that stop people in their tracks, and nighttime experiences that left families shaken long after the fire burned out. Some of these stories were kept quiet for years before being shared here. If you want to hear the full stories, the details that couldn’t fit into this preview, and the conversations that followed, consider joining the Bigfoot Society membership. 22. In this episode of Bigfoot Society, firsthand witnesses from across North America finally share what they experienced — often in places Bigfoot researchers know all too well. From a violent nighttime incident at a remote Montana campground, to a massive figure crossing a road near Weld, Maine, to daylight activity along Highway 7 near Morton and Mineral, Washington, these encounters didn’t happen in stories — they happened in real places. Listeners will hear accounts tied to the Appalachian Trail near Dudleytown, Connecticut, the forests of northern Minnesota, the White Mountains and Mogollon Rim of Arizona, ranch land in British Columbia, and even an Interstate 90 rest stop in Washington — locations where witnesses never expected to come face-to-face with something they couldn’t explain. Hunters, campers, loggers, ranchers, and truck drivers describe moments of silence, fear, movement, and presence — sometimes lasting only seconds, sometimes stretching through the night. No theories pushed. No conclusions forced. Just firsthand testimony, shared carefully and honestly. Listen to the full episode — every voice matters, and the pattern only emerges when you hear them all. 🗣️ Share Your Story Had a Bigfoot encounter or strange experience? Missing 411

Yeah, I can't figure it out. His remains were found several yards off one of the two possible trails he could have used to access his cabin. Troopers supposedly sent working dogs up both trails. Eventually, a neighbor homesteader found him. There was nothing left but bones, clothing, and his daypack. For me, it was yet another lesson that one can literally lay down near a well used trail and disappear, whether you're a sniper, sasquatch, Siberian tiger, or dead old man.

I agree. But you cannot throw the baby out with the bath water. I definitely think there are strange disappearances on national forests. Dennis Martin and Travis Walton come to mind. And despite my misgivings of Matilda and Ketchum DNA studies? I am thankful Paulides has brought this to our attention.

    Missing 411

That was an interesting case, thank you for posting it. Sounds like a prepared camper with an accident that could not be handled alone. Never apologize for bumping an old thread - that's far better than having six threads on the same topic IM(not so)HO. I think both of these comments on grid searches are congruent, not contradictory. While repeated grid searches of the same area should turn up something, an initial search may have a lower degree of confidence as to thoroughness. Several of the much more experienced members of my team often told me that you never got above 75% confidence in a search and even 50% was rare because when you are searching a large area with dense underbrush/growth/rockfields/downed trees/etc., it's harder than most people realize to spot a relatively small object (like a human body) in those circumstances. For example, on one search that had at least 100 searchers in a NY state park, the body was missed during the first search because (most likely) the subject had jumped off a cliff to commit suicide and ended up deep in a crevice between boulders. The searchers at the section had used drones and were on foot, but I understand it particularly hazardous and probably half of the time they were concentrating on not becoming someone who needed rescued themselves. Also, there had been some snowfall after the subject's disappearance. Remains were found in the spring. In my experience in New York, the DEC-ran searches focused on expanding the search area if initial searches were unsuccessful rather than going back over the same ground.
