USDA to cut 112 million acres of national forest
NorCalWitness replied to RedHawk454's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
typical word play in the original post. not blaming the OP, but I am blaming his sources for fear mongering. opening 112M acres for logging doesn't mean that 112M acres will be logged. Today, we log anywhere from 2M to 10M acres a year in the US. The directive from President Trump is to increase logging by 25% domestically. That means 500K to 2.5M acres will be logged out of the 112M acres. We are talking about .45% to 2.23% of the 112M acres being logged. We have 823M acres of forest in the US. When you look at the amount of total forest impact, we are talking about to .06% to .30% of the forest being logged annually under this new rule. Is this really a sky is falling moment? NOT EVEN CLOSE. It is more whipped up hysteria from the true enemy of the people, the media. -

The Forest Service doesn’t even clear out trails or roads anymore. And their forests are a mess. Waiting for a lightning strike or a careless camper. Fires happen in nature. But reducing the fuel load reduces the intensity of the fire greatly. -

It is both. Our forests are being mismanaged. Fires are getting bad. And the tariff wars will have a negative effect on Canadian imports including lumber. Which is the point of tariffs is to bring production and jobs back to America. Here is a random snapshot of the border between the U.S. and Canada in the Yaak River drainage. Do you notice anything? Which side is logging more? Most timber production in the U.S. no longer comes from the U.S. Forest Service. It comes from state lands and private lands. I.e. Weyerhaeuser or Boise Cascade. And the last part that really gets under my hide is that the U.S. Forest Service is a part of the Dept of AGRICULTURE. Why agriculture? Because up until the spotted owl debacle? Forests were seen as a green renewable resource. You’re growing a crop. You harvest the crop, and you replant the crop. Now they treat them like parks. They don’t touch them, the fuel load grows and grows per acre until a hot summer and a lightning strike sets off a massive forest fire. As a fire fighter of 17 years? Loggers respect flag lines and timber sale boundaries. Forest fires? Do not. Complete towns have burned down. This is mismanagement on an epic scale. And if I started a fire on my property and it spread to Forest Service property? They would sue me into oblivion…. but when it’s the other way around? Crickets. What does this all mean for Bigfoot? Remember that US Parks and wilderness areas will not be touched. But clear cuts are beneficial to certain species like Elk and Deer. If Bigfoot likes to eat hoofed critters? He will like clear cuts. Also all logging respects RZs or Riparian zones, so they cannot log right down to the crick or river. This keeps fish and other critters habitat intact. Also Bigfoot already has to navigate forest fire burnt areas already. A clear cut in his eyes would be just the same without the threat of being burned alive. Some noisy loggers move in for a couple of months and then they are gone.🤷♂️ - Today

Theres many articles. Heres googles AI overview: On Friday, April 5th, the USDA issued a memo allowing logging on over 112 million acres of national forests, aiming to increase timber production and reduce wildfire risk, potentially bypassing standard environmental processes. Here's a more detailed breakdown: The Memo: Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins issued a memo, following an executive order, to expedite logging activities in designated forests. Purpose: The move aims to increase U.S. timber production and empower the Forest Service to take emergency actions to reduce wildfire risk. Scope: The memo impacts 112,646,000 acres, which is 59% of all Forest Service lands, determined to be at risk of fire, harmful insects, or both. Impacted Areas: This includes forests like the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, Bridger-Teton National Forest, Shoshone National Forest, Black Hills National Forest, and Bighorn National Forest. Environmental Concerns: The memo could potentially dismantle some National Environmental Policy Act processes, raising concerns about environmental safeguards. Environmental Groups Opposition: Environmental groups like the Sierra Club, Coalition to Protect America's National Parks, and Environment America oppose the memo, citing potential harm to environmental protections and increased risk to forests. heres an article USDA designates 113 million acres for emergency logging to boost U.S. timber production i'm not saying that that isnt going to happen and yes its needed, but thats one claim to justify this whole thing. From what Ive read its really being done to boost US timber production -

To kind of piggyback off of this, is anybody aware of any studies that have been conducted across the infrasonic/ultrasonic spectrum? I know in the primate world larger primates have been known to emit infrasonic sounds and smaller have been known to emit ultrasonic sounds. But it would be interesting to see if one vs the other produced more, if any, callbacks in Bigfoot habitat. -

Let's be real here. The idea that some kind of large ape like creature roaming the wildlands of the world has always been treated with ridicule and derision . ( and will continue until one is captured or dead body presented) . Way before they were called bigfoot , people who told stories of encounters, were viewed as a few bricks shy a full load. It doesn't help there are so many hoaxers and actual persons a few bricks shy a full load involved with the search and topic . You know this isn't the only bigfoot forum I've been to . But it's the sanest one I've been to. -

It’s a tough balancing act. The absurdity is what brings in viewers. More eyes and ears on the subject overall is probably a net positive. Sure. It used to be if you saw a bigfoot sticker on a car, you could pretty well bet it was either another researcher or someone with deep interest, maybe personal experience. It’s no secret that Bigfoot has become a pop culture icon—he’s been in everything from beef jerky commercials to goofy movies and reality TV shows filled with jump scares and fake evidence. But here’s the problem: all that entertainment is making it harder for serious researchers to be taken seriously. For those of us genuinely interested in tracking down the truth—whether through fieldwork, collecting witness testimonies, or analyzing evidence—these exaggerated portrayals are a real setback. They turn a topic rooted in deep cultural history and countless firsthand reports into little more than a joke. Every time a “squatch-hunting” show fakes a howl or stages a footprint, it pushes public perception further away from respect and toward ridicule. Funding dries up. Eyewitnesses stay silent. Legit researchers get lumped in with hoaxers. And real discoveries slip through the cracks because nobody’s listening. If you’ve got ideas on how to fix this—whether it’s better representation, grassroots documentaries, or building a more credible community—drop a comment. Let’s start treating the unknown with the curiosity and respect it deserves. -

Hey everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself. I go by CatskillCrawler or just Crawler for short— I’m from upstate New York, right near the Catskills. Grew up surrounded by forest, farmland, and stories that make you stop and listen a little closer to the woods. I’ve always had an interest in Bigfoot and other unexplained phenomena, especially anything tied to Appalachian or Northeastern folklore. I’m here to learn, trade theories, and hear what others are seeing or experiencing out there. I don’t claim to have all the answers — just a genuine curiosity and a lifelong love of the wild. Looking forward to being a part of the community!

USDA to cut 112 million acres of national forest
RedHawk454 posted a topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
Following Trumps directive, the usda is going to allow the logging of 112 million acres of national forest across the USA to increase timber production. The claim that the Trump administration is making is that it will reduce forest fires and (so they say). This is primarily being done to increase timber production with ZERO consideration of the effect that this will have on the woods in the USA. I’m worried that this will have a negative impact on the BiGFo0Ts that are still alive. It was the unregulated logging the 18 and 1900’s that drove them to isolation.. Tonight I will be speaking to Doug who is from Alberta Canada. John writes "My family and extended family arrived at the Wabasso Campsite the afternoon on Sunday August 7th 2022. Its important to note that the holiday fell on August 1st that year so we arrived after the long weekend rush, additionally it was a Sunday (not on a long weekend) so the campground wasn’t as busy. Our trailer was located at the first spot (D1) on the right as you enter Loop D at the Wabasso campsite. Our family typically books this campground during this time year every year so we’re familiar with the area. My father and mother in-law as well as my brother and sister in-law along with my two nephews (6 & 8 years old at the time), joined my wife and I and our two daughters (5 & 7) for a week-long family camping trip. We had booked site D1 for my immediate family, my father and mother in-law we located directly NW of us across the roadway and my brother and sister in-law were our neighbors directly to the East of us. After a busy first day and getting all three of our sites setup and everyone situated and fed, we decided to have a fire with the entire family at my father and mother in-laws site located directly across the roadway from our site. After the sun had set and darkness was beginning to fall, we decided to put all our children to bed at around 10:00-10:30PM. After tending to our children's bedtime routines, we bid goodnight to our daughters, who were bubbling with excitement about our camping adventure. They giggled and laughed as we left them snug in their beds in our trailer. My wife and I made our way across to rejoin our family around the fire. We all were sitting on one side of the fire when we rejoined the group as there was a light wind and we were avoiding the smoke from the fire. Shortly after sitting, the light wind changed direction and I was the first to take action making the jump across the semicircle now sitting across from my entire family on the other side of the fire. This change in seating now gave me a better vantage point now looking South and in better view of our Trailer and children. Who at this point had quieted down as we could no longer hear laughter coming from our trailer, thinking they were well on their way to sleep. As soon as I was seated and had taken in a view of our trailer, I noticed something large directly behind our trailer across the roadway. It then started moving West away from the rear of our trailer toward the entrance of the campground. Instinctively I stood up as I knew it was something large but what confused me most was the color. White or possibly slightly gray figure. Now at this time the moon had just finished cresting from behind Mt. Edith Cavell and because there was no cloud cover, the moon provided just enough ambient lighting to witness the event at this hour. According to google earth, I would put the rough distance from my vantage point to the figure at 150-175’. The creature began moving westward, away from our campsite. It appeared to be hunched over, and my gut told me it was intentionally trying to appear smaller, suggesting a keen awareness of its surroundings. Once it starting travelling West away from my trailer, I stood up and once I did the creature took notice and accelerated with such silent pace it startled me. The moment I stood up my wife and sister in-law took notice and both caught obstructed views of the creature accelerating across the terrain away from our campsite. The terrain was mostly bare and filled with deadfall for maybe 25-35 feet or more along the southern side of the roadway providing me with an unobstructed view. The entire event occurred in 5 seconds maybe. Immediately following the event I went to check on my children. When I walked inside the trailer, both were sat up in bed frightened and were both claiming a bear or something big was outside the trailer. Dad calmed their fears, tucked them back in and returned to the fire to debate what some of us had witnessed. Both my wife and sister in-law agree it was a large albino type animal. Myself having the best vantage point, believes it was bipedal and hunched over to appear smaller as its forward limbs were not touching the ground as it accelerated and reacted to my change in behavior. The following day I walked the path I believed it traveled but there were no tracks unfortunately. The Jasper area was very dry and had not seen hardly any rain in the days or weeks leading up to this encounter. Additionally, I also stopped in at the campsite registry and asked the park Ranger if any other campers had reported any albino animals in the area. Which they had not. I am certain this was not a bear or moose as the creature was too silent as it accelerated and moved with agility." John from Episode 883, if you remember he is a Nurse and had an encounter in 2020. Spoke to John and he wrote a book from eyewitness accounts in his area of Kentucky. I invited John back to the show to discuss his new book. Here is a like along with the description For centuries reports of bipedal Sasquatch have captivated the public, but a lesser-known phenomenon lurks in the shadows...encounters with quadrupedal Sasquatch. These chilling sightings challenge conventional wisdom, forcing us to reconsider what we think we know about these elusive creatures. In Crouching Behemoth: Quadrupedal Sasquatch, we have the first book of its kind; it is the result of an almost three-year deep dive into spider crawls as well as walking, running, and gallops on all four limbs. Renowned anthropologist Dr. Jeff Meldrum lends his expertise in an exclusive interview, shedding light on the biomechanics and plausibility of this behavior. While he did not fully endorse this type of maneuverability, it is very interesting in what he did say regarding the aforementioned type of behavior and more. Charlie Raymond, one of the top field researchers and founder of the KBRO in Kentucky, weighs into it as well. Besides the multitude of frankly disturbing eyewitness testimony, we will also hear from Dr. David Harmon, a distinguished physician in the treatment of PTSD and how a traumatized witness can be treated! If all this doesn't convince you that this is definitely a different kind of Sasquatch book, you will find that although the subject matter is treated very serious, there is much humor sprinkled throughout this 400 plus page volume to lighten it up once in a while. This book is a fun, must read for Bigfoot enthusiasts, skeptics, and anyone fascinated by the intersection of science, mystery, and the human experience. This book has it all...well, almost all as the scratch and sniff Sasquatch fragrance was eliminated because I didn't want people out there saying this book stinks. You just might like this one, folks! Listen to the Podcast
