Is the Bigfoot Forum losing interest?
NorCalWitness replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
I enjoy the people that are here and there is more content across this boards history than one could ever get through. Nothing needs to change, I was simply pointing out that forums are not dying but smaller communities are. You are doing just fine. - Today

Is the Bigfoot Forum losing interest?
Trogluddite replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
To quote Ripley, "has everyone's IQ's dropped while I've been in a cryogenic sleep the last 40 years?" Or something like that. And the answer is that IQs and attention spans have both dropped, phenomenally. Someone on Facebook posted an 8th grade civics test from circa 1880. I'm pretty sure I'd fail if I took it cold turkey. You can find numerous articles on colleges complaining that incoming classes need remedial math and instruction on how to read and analyze literature. So, it's not shocking that a forum like this one which doesn't have glitzy AI-generated recreations of "How Bigfoot interrupted our basketball game, dunked, and left" or 15-minute videos of "The Top 10 Most Horrific Bigfoot Attacks in Manhattan" can't compete for an audience used to getting their information in 60 second Tik-Toks. If that's what's askew with this Forum, I'm okay with keeping the recipe the same. Cliff & Bobo and Greg Pruitt mentioned on one of the last Bigfoot n' Beyond podcasts that at one time, the BFF was the place to go for Bigfoot information as it was an improvement over message boards and relatively open (i.e., no gatekeepers who "owned" the forums and ruled them with an iron fist, like some field research organizations). But now, to get visibility in a monetized world, you need people willing (and capable) of pounding out blog posts in 15 minute increments or video shorts on 18 different platforms. I just don't think that's what the Forums are (and I'm okay with that). As to Reddit, never has so much been said with so few words; well done, Beachfoot. (Okay, technically, the Commander, American Forces in and around Bastogne did better, but you still win the day here.) Even for the non-cesspool aspects of Reddit, it's just not an easy system to use and information in it gets lost faster than virtue in a ... in a place where virtue is lost quickly. I had a baseball site that was like a local bar. When Vox took it over, the regulars looked for a new place where everybody knew your name and Reddit was not it. It was difficult to find even basic threads on the topic there. Rant over. I"ll go back outside to shake my fist at some clouds now. -
In what way is my response anti-science? This should be .. entertaining.

I cant fix what I don't know is broken. Trog is working on more historical content for us. And requested new sub forums to house them. Which I built. And Nathan suggested a hunting and fishing subforum. Which I built. But I am at a dead end for forum memberships. Gigantor hasn't responded to what we are doing about them. And I don't have access to the paypal account. Any other suggestions I am all ears. -

I should have been more specific, stand alone forums are dying out. Reddit kind of smashes all the crazies, niche interests and paranormal stuff all into one thing and so Reddit scrolling can pull good numbers across topics. I agree 100% on the woke stuff, I tried to interact on there a few times in the past but left with an icky feeling each time. -

I hate reddit and do not go there. It is toxic. If you aren't a part of the group think, they will crucify you at the altar of wokeness. However, they have enough sheeple to fill the barn. -
United States 1800s - Boss Liars and Bigfoot - Tirademan!
Trogluddite posted a topic in More Historical Newspaper Archives
It's amazing how much easier online research is in less than 20 years. Tirademan found "the tantalizing Boss Liar" story online but had to contact a library in a major Ohio city and pay 50 cents to obtain a more fulsome copy on the topic. I just punched up over 4,000 articles, the earliest from 1863. It appears that this was a common phrase used by newspapers to disparage the writers for other newspapers, as these clips show. However, I did not attempt to find an article linking a Boss Liar to Bigfoot. -

Good lord, I am simply pointing out to Nathan that forums are not dying. Everyone calm down. This kind of group think attacking response has a lot to do with why this forum is dying. People can point things out without being snarked out on by the flock. Thats the opinion of the ardent supporters here, but your response is actually anti-science. -

I don't think sasquatchery is dying. SERIOUS, science-based sasquatchery is dying, pop-culture and wootard sasquatchery seems to be taking off .. unfortunately. It's become the equivalent of pink flamingos and lawn gnomes. It is very difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. It has driven most of the serious researchers .. the ones not dead yet .. underground to get away from the "noise." There is nothing this forum can do about it. The world has moved "forward" in a not very appealing direction.

Iowa 1933 - Escaped Gorilla Seen Near Kingston, Oakville
Trogluddite posted a topic in More Historical Newspaper Archives
Published in the Iowa City (IA) Press-Citizen on February 1, 1933. Note that the gorilla was "reported to have escaped" from a circus's winter headquarters in Sterling, Illinois. The Illinois State University's Milner Library has a special collection on circus history in the state. I asked them for any information they may be able to provide on this question and they searched The Billboard, the trade publication which covered circuses extensively during this time [as it] seems likely that an escaped gorilla would have made its pages. Similarly, within those pages could not be found a circus wintering in Sterling, Illinois. They librarians reported that they could not find any evidence to support this story. -

Yes it’s forums, but it covers every subject under the sun. I am not sure how to replicate that here. We don’t have a feed with revolving posts. Posts that have nothing to do with each other? Norcal where are you going with this? Changes to the forum are the responsibility of the steering committee. If you have ideas to make this forum better? You are more than welcome to run it past them. Incorrigible is the SC chair. Shoot him a PM. -

The BFF is dying because sasquatchery is dying. There are no fresh excellent quality encounters with good evidence to share. The qualified pioneers with scientific qualifications are dying off. These creatures might be on the cusp of extinction. -
