    Homo Erectus

A struggle for me is the close human association in terms of alleged DNA results. And yet the morphology and behavior are not so similar. Almost not inside the parameters of the Homo genus at all. I say almost because while Homo Erectus used fire and stone tools? We don't know often they were used. Or if groups lost the ability because of topography and resources as they moved. All great ideas to ponder.👍🏼

    Homo Erectus

The pieces do not fit neatly. There's always something we have to willfully ignore, something that it doesn't look right to ignore. I've often wondered if bigfoot wasn't a Homo erectus descendant, tiny population cut off in North America and forced by extreme climate to drift genetically quite rapidly. That much has been shown to happen in other species. That could account for the Cerutti mastadon site, for example. It could account for the lack of ancestral fossils in North America as well. It could potentially account for the DNA samples coming back as so near us they appear to be contamination or environmentally degraded rather than as a separate species. However, like every other answer, there seems to be a problem. In this instance the problem comes up if we try to equate bigfoot here with Almasty, yeren, maybe yowie .. because those from Europe and Asia, maybe Australia, are not separated from the larger H. erectus population in the same way any in North America would have been and continued connection with a larger population would have buffered out that sort of truly rapid genetic drift. There just is not a good, clean answer so far.

    Homo Erectus

Good video and the main speaker was sure Homo erectus had a basic language. It migrated out of Africa and may have associated with Neanderthals and Homo sapiens. It was about the size of a 5' human being or a little larger. There is no mention of Homo erectus being in the Homo sapien's genome. "Homo erectus is an extinct species of archaic human from the Pleistocene, spanning nearly 2 million years. It is the first human species to evolve a humanlike body plan and gait, to leave Africa and colonize Asia and Europe, and to wield fire. Some populations of H. erectus were ancestors of later human species, including H. heidelbergensis—the last common ancestor of modern humans, Neanderthals", ... Wikipedia "In the last two months, news outlets have been abuzz with the announcement of what many suggested was a new hominin species. In 2008, a 40,000 year old pinky bone from a child was discovered in a Siberian cave. The bone was not enough to identify the species of its possessor, but since both Neanderthals and humans are known to have lived in the area at the time, scientists assumed it belonged to one of these two species. That all changed in March of this year, when German researchers announced that they’d managed to extract DNA from the fossil — and it didn’t match up to the known genetic sequences of either humans or Neanderthals! In fact, the human and Neanderthal sequences were more similar to each other than either was to the fossil’s sequence!" WAS IT HOMO ERECTUS?
  10. I tried to find a thread about early Homo sapiens, and this was the most appropriate find. I thought this YouTube video on Bear Cults was great! It fit so much of everything I've been taught or discovered about religion, anthropology, and bears, and was just a great video in general. Enjoy!

  14. Mike writes "It was the middle of summer, and I was out riding my bicycle. My parents had gotten distracted and busy with other things. I think my mom was asleep, and nobody was really paying much attention to me. It was around 10:00 or 10:30 at night, and I was still outside riding my bike. Our house sat right on a corner intersection, and about 150 feet behind it was my granddaddy's workshop. He was a carpenter and a farmer, and he had built this long, rectangular, shoebox-shaped workshop that was probably about 75 feet long. On one side of the workshop, he had added a lean-to shelter where he kept his tractor, hay bales, and other things. On the far back side, he had built a horse pen. The pen extended about 10 feet underneath the lean-to, giving the horse a place to get out of the rain. There was a stall door that we kept secured with a chain and lock. I was riding my bicycle around the shop when something happened. I'm not going to sit here and tell you I saw a 10-foot-tall, ape-like creature come charging out of the woods at me. But whatever it was, it had to be at least nine feet tall. It was way over my head, even while I was sitting on my bicycle. It was around 10:30 at night. There was no moon, and the only light came from a 40-watt bulb on the back porch of our house. Whatever it was, it was big. It appeared black because it blocked out what little ambient light there was. It came out of the woods behind the workshop. The woods had actually grown right up to the side of the building. It came after me, and I pedaled that bicycle harder than I have ever pedaled anything in my life. I was headed straight for the light on the back porch. Whatever it was scared me so badly that I dropped my bike, got my shoelaces tangled up, and ended up dragging the bicycle up the back steps. I scraped my shins up pretty badly in the process, and I was beating on the back door trying to get inside. Whatever it was, it stopped. We had a little storage building, maybe 10 by 12 feet, just off the back porch. It stopped right at the edge of that building, where the light from the porch ended. My granddaddy, who raised me and whom we lived with, came out the back door carrying a shotgun. Whatever it was had stopped there, just beyond the light. That was my very first experience. For as far back as I can remember, my great-grandparents lived farther up River Road, toward Uwharrie, and I spent a lot of time with them. They always talked about the booger. They would let me play in the yard right in front of the house, just off the porch, but they wouldn't let me go around to any place where they couldn't see me. My great-grandma was always telling me, "You don't play in those woods. You don't go near the woods. The booger will get you. The booger will get you." I didn't realize until a few years ago that the creature was something people referred to by that name. I think a lot of people in Virginia call it a "wood booger." They had always warned me, "You can't go in the woods. You can't play in the woods without us." They wanted to be with me, and we spent a lot of time walking the trails around their house. But we only did that during the daytime." Listen to the Podcast

I've always been curious about Sasquatch since I first saw the Leonard Nimoy IN Search Of in the mid 70's. I live in upstate NY, and travel for work. I travel through the Adirondacks, and Northwest PA. I have heard a few stories from local people, in Northwest PA, and the Adirondacks. After hearing these stories I realised most encounters are never officially reported, but there is no doubt they are sure that Sasquatch exists. My wife grew up in the Adirondacks, and had 2 strange encounters over the years. One when she was younger, and one when she was in her early 20s.

I have followed the Bigfoot phenomenon since the early 70s. John Green's books were my introduction to the subject. Since then I have followed the subject very closely. I have personally corresponded with Lyle Blackburn, Ken Gerhard and before his untimely passing, Dr. Meldrum. I hope to discuss and debate this subject with like minded individuals here and further my study of the subject. Thank you for allowing me to join.

  18. Tonight’s guest, Arthur Wach, had his first Sasquatch sighting in 1977, when he was 13 years old. He was fishing on the Platte River near Gothenburg, Nebraska, with his dad and brother. Arthur’s dad was about 50 feet down the bank from him, and his brother was about 50 feet beyond their dad. They had been fishing for a while when Arthur suddenly sensed someone or something walking behind him. At first, he thought it was his dad, because when he looked down the bank, his dad was no longer there. Arthur grabbed his fishing pole and tackle box and headed down a trail through the brush toward the spot where his dad had been fishing. As he followed the trail, Arthur looked for his dad’s tracks. Instead, he found a series of large, bare footprints leading to the water’s edge. He had no idea what could have left them. When he reached the last print, he lifted his gaze and saw what had made them. That sighting was only the first of many Sasquatch-related experiences Arthur has had over the years. I hope you’ll tune in to tonight’s show—and when you do, you’d better get comfortable. Arthur has a lot of encounters to share. 22. When I worked for the Forest Service back in 1974 and 1975, I had no concept of what the agency's stance was on bigfoot. While on the job, if I had a sighting, I would have reported it to my boss who was higher up in the district office of the Rogue River National Forest of Medford, Oregon. He probably would have told me to not report it to the wildlife officer since this would put my job in jeopardy. My annual job performance review was coming so I would not have reported it to those higher up in the chain of command. Since my annual review was coming up, and if I reported the sighting to the wildlife officer, I probably would have been fired for disobeying my immediate boss. I would guess the Forest Service has not changed their stance presently, and they call bigfoot a mythical creature for a reason. This means they are not real, so they have no effect on Forest Service policy. Work someplace else if you don't understand the policy.
  23. I'm pretty confident that it would be absorbed, and I wouldn't hear squat about it again. Almost universally, sensitive information that I was involved in was absorbed by management, dealt with confidentially, and it remained quiet. And I remained quiet about it as well, and that confidentiality served me well with management.
  24. An Oregon mother tried calling 911 as mysterious knocking moved closer from two directions. Her children were beside her. A tree whipped back and forth in the nearby thicket. Then they spotted a large, dark shape—and her phone had no signal. In Bigfoot Society Episode 1220, Katrina shares the coastal forest encounter that left her family scrambling for a way out. What began as a hike and picnic became an experience she still struggles to recount. Weeks later, a conversation in a local shop raised even more questions about that stretch of woods. More witnesses share unsettling experiences: two sisters hear guttural voices as something bangs against and rocks their trailer; a Mississippi woman watches a huge, shaggy figure move behind her neighbor’s home; an Oklahoma camper feels something press against his head while he sleeps; and a Washington hunter hears an unfamiliar howl near Little Naches. 25. If you had a sighting? Would you report it up the chain of command? And if you did? What do you think the response would have been? I mean I would be glad to be wrong. It would be wonderful to have some agency some where take this seriously. But looking outside in? It’s a stone wall. And I think witnesses deserve better!
  26. Oh, I need to add something: I was a supervisor in the Roads and Grounds shop for a few years. Had one of the men in the shop come to me with a sightings report, I would have most definitely handled it differently than if I'd had the sighting myself. If I'd seen one myself, I would be included to report it to my supervisor...............but if I had a low opinion of him, I probably wouldn't report it. But if I was the supervisor, and it was reported to me? I would go to the site and look for sign first, but whether or not I found anything, I would have definitely brought it up my chain of command. I would probably skip the Branch Chief and go directly to the Public Works Director. It's just a matter of responsibility.
  27. When I say Government, I mean the people who control it. Whom ever has the power to stigmatize a subject. Project Blue Book claiming a UFO is nothing more than swamp gas. People who make April Fools jokes on the official U.S. Forest Service website about Bigfoot. Etc. This isn’t the actions of low level people. This is an active decision by the people who run the show.
  28. Ok, I think what you are trying to say is that some people in Government know about Bigfoot. Please correct me if I'm wrong (lol) but, you don't think that everyone in Government knows about Bigfoot, right? So, as I see it, this is the disconnect: Surely, some Government employees, past and present, have witnessed what we describe as Bigfoot. However, if anyone of those people had definitive proof (as you indicate, think: bodies on slabs) then, I would only have to believe that that indisputable evidence, i.e. proof, would have been exposed by now. I can see why many people don't come forward and insist to their Government bosses that they saw a Bigfoot. However, if they know they exist, which we define as absolute proof, then I think they most likely would have taken that absolute proof higher up. So, to summarize: if no absolute proof then, why risk ridicule, your job, etc. etc.?? Edit to add: Thank-you for your Service, Huntster! I think you summarize the situation very well and from a position of actual experience. Where reported Bigfoot sightings, footprints, howls, smells, structures, etc. etc. go from there, without definitive proof, is absolutely nowhere.
  29. ^ This. ^ Moreover, even within certain agencies (like the Army), few have the odds of encountering these creatures. But some do. I've used the example of Ft. Lewis, Washington. It's right on ground that is surrounded with regular sightings, is actually on ground that looks like a migration/movement area, has plenty of recorded sightings itself, and has been an Army post for over a hundred years. If sasquatches exist, and if that area is as density rich as reports indicate, and with the Army being there for a century, there are people within the Army family who know about it. I was an Army soldier (engineer), and then an Army civilian on Ft. Richardson, Alaska, for 35 years. I worked for the engineering organization that literally owned the post. We signed off buildings and lands to commanding officers of various units, but we were ultimately responsible for them (and we held the tenants responsible for proper use and damages). I was an "outside" engineer. Roads, grounds, railroads, bridges, etc. We had an environmental branch which included a Natural Resources Officer, who was responsible for wildlife. He set the hunting regs on post in cooperation with the state fish and game agency. Ft. Lewis has/had the exact same organizational structure. If sasquatches exists, they exist there at least in movement through the place leaving sign and encounters with soldiers and Range Control. Eventually, the Natural Resources Officer is going to know and share that knowledge with the Public Works Director, who will then share it with the Commanding General's Chief of Staff. Where the knowledge goes from there is certain to vary. But my experience is that's how it looks at the lower, local end. I'm also pretty well versed in what we call "unofficial lines of communication". All of us civilians, unlike both the enlisted and commissioned active duty personnel, worked there for decades. We didn't come for a three year tour, and then rotated out. We owned the place. Literally. And we worked together for decades. We were like brothers and sisters. We still are. And we talk to each other. Some word gets around. Some is hush-hush. Depends on what it is, and who you trust. On Ft. Rich, we talked openly about the wildlife. Those of us in the exterior trades and activities had regular contact with the bears, wolves, and moose. Lots of it. And we shared those experiences with others. If I saw a sasquatch, would I have talked? Yup........to a few folks. Certainly not all.
