Why is the Forest Service and BLM so quiet about Bigfoot?
georgerm replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
Sasquatches probably looked at native Americans more favorably since they had a low impact on their environment and the creatures were probably not afraid once they became used to living around the native Americans. This cohesiveness probably varied from tribe to tribe and more hostile tribes may have been averse to enjoying the company of bigfoots. The same applies in reverse with family groups of bigfoots who did not trust humans so it's difficult to know the relationship between the two groups. The relationship between modern humans and bigfoots today is probably far worse than when native Americans were dominate. Modern humans today have built the Forest Service that doesn't even recognize bigfoot probably due to admitting there is a bigfoot would amount to territory protection and vast reductions in logging if environmental groups demand extreme Sasquatch land protection. - Today

WHY DO THE FEDS WANT BIGFOOT TO REMAIN UNDCOMENTED & MYTHICAL?
Huntster replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
My beliefs, like everybody else's, are subject to change as evidence and theories sway them. No worries about differences! I don't take offense. Well, frankly, it seems to me that the lives of sasquatches are more humane the less they interact with us. My Dad actually got me started on this consideration when I was still a teen by advocating that they should be left alone. Indeed, the same is true of Homo sapiens tribes and ethnicities living in remote areas who don't want to have anything to do with the rest of us. As an Alaskan, living in a huge state with a tiny population, I understand the desire to live apart from the world of man as much as possible and comfortable. That's why I'm here. And if folks who rarely to never visit wild areas accept sasquatches as only mythical, but still enjoy movies like Harry and the Hendersons as comedy and Jack Link commercials as entertaining, aren't their lives enriched regarding wilderness wildlife? But haven't we already done all that? That seems a bit intrusive to me. Sasquatches appear to prefer solitude, and they appear quite capable of achieving it without our help. This is a very valid concern. Government secrecy about sasquatchery lends little to no confidence that the species is not going extinct. I guess I'm willing to trust them rather than open it up to all of humanity, which looks to me to be the kiss of death for the species. -

Very well written reply and thanks. I hope my reply is not contrary to your beliefs. If federal government and mainly the Forest Service took an active role to discover Sasquatch and to protect its precise habitat then possibly bigfoot's lives could be more humane and our lives would be richer with forest filled with wildlife. The problem is to locate Sasquatch's nesting area as Albert Ostman accomplished by accident. We have grown into a huge and powerful country, and it seems humane to study and to make room for animals that get caught in the wheels of progress. We are smart enough to grow our economy and protect animal's habitats at the same time. The greatness of a country can be determined by how well it takes care of its people, and the welfare of animals yet manage logging, hunting and mining so nature's animals can live in managed numbers too. So how do we take care and protect bigfoot? We first need to use the evidence we already have to prove its existence then we need to hire a small army of biologist and Eagle Scouts to roam, camp in the woods, and secretly find bigfoot's nesting sites so we can keep tourist, hunters and loggers at a reasonable distance away from the nesting sites. It's a tall order to fill and possibly our effort may enable bigfoot to live a better life and may prevent the possible extinction of bigfoot. -

It's an interesting thought exercise to consider how the sasquatch species was affected by the arrival of non-indigenous people. First, native Americans lived in groups and villages that were mostly nomadic, and their weapons were close ranged. When Europeans arrived, the Homo sapiens population numbers exploded within a very short period, they established towns and cities that remain and some of which have grown into metropolises, and we now have the capability of shooting them from a quarter mile away. Sasquatches have shared this continent with native Americans for at least 12,000 years, but the past 200 years have changed everything. Indeed, we can even categorize the past 200 years: 1825-1925: Occasional contact with European explorers, trappers, and prospectors 1925-1955: Increasing contact, and the beginning of mass media exposure of the species to humanity 1955-today: An explosion of sasquatchery in the Homo sapiens consciousness, beginning with contact from people penetrating the Six Rivers National Forest timber sales and the modern media -

I believe these creatures are nomadic, and they utilize HUGE areas. This is part of why anti-discovery is desired by government. "Protecting" an entire region for a nomadic species would be traumatic to humanity. Many people already live in these areas. An example of such a species would be barren grounds caribou like the Nelchina or Fortymile caribou herds. These are huge areas, very few people live within these areas, and caribou are a hunted species, yet wildlife managers are still confronted with a myriad of challenges managing these herds. If we're talking about a non-game species that is at extremely low population density, it would be a huge, expensive, and intrusive management challenge. Better just to look the other way, and assist everybody else to look that way, too.......... One of the best examples of sasquatch "home" reports came from the Albert Ostman story. He claimed that the sasquatch family (his word) that held him hostage lived in a several acre area surrounded by steep cliffs and a single, narrow opening that had a spring or small brook and overhanging rock projections under which they built their sleeping nests for protection from rain. The species appears to reproduce like Homo sapiens, so that rearing their few young takes years, which is supported by their species low density and slow growing (or even declining) situation. Most public lands in North America already have significant access restrictions. It's not like the pre-automobile era when access by horseback allowed reaching even in near impossible corners of the wilderness. Motor vehicle access is limited to established roadways, and even then, government utilizes gates to restrict access for myriad reasons. Even access by foot or horseback requires permits. Access restrictions offer solitude for sasquatches. -
The forest service designs and use to hide timber sales that helps remove fuels that build up in old growth forest and provides fuel for forest fires. Areas to be logged must be in proportion to the size of the drainage basin where the logging will occur. If a drainage basin is over logged then massive erosion will occur that floods creeks and rivers with brown sediment that can wipe out trout, salmon, and steelhead. Each drainage basin can have limited and planned logging which may need to be in public view, so fish are protected and wildfires are kept to a minimum. After a planned clearcut, grasses, brush, and small trees begin to grow back which supplies deer, and elk fresh leaves to brouse on. Bigfoots ability to raise a family and to find food is improved since deer and elk survive on the new growth springing up on clear cut land. However, during hunting season, Bigfoots ability to feed its family is reduced since bigfoots must evacuate prime hunting grounds to avoid regular hunters and hound hunters which forces bigfoot to hunt at night when hunters are absent from the woods. Since the Forest Service considers bigfoot to be mythical, they don't put any effort into help Sasquatch survive like they did to help the Spotted Owl. During hunting seasons bigfoots may need to hunt higher in the mountains where deer might be less prevalent and access roads are nonexistent. In general, the lives of bigfoots were probably more difficult during time when pioneers flooded lands throughout America. Bigfoots obvious desire to avoid humans has increased since the pioneer days which could have made them an endangered species that could go extinct. Since bigfoots are so difficult to find and to gather evidence on how they live, it becomes nearly impossible with present means to study them so they can become a documented and proven species. How we avoid killing a male and female bigfoot to prove their existence is a topic for another paper that could include hiring a massive forest workforce supplied with tranquilizer dart guns. Once proven, bigfoots and their habitat will probably receive national protection. Areas close to their nesting grounds will probably need laws to reduce hunting in these areas, build roads away from their homes, and supply food during winter months to prevent them from going extinct.

WHY DO THE FEDS WANT BIGFOOT TO REMAIN UNDCOMENTED & MYTHICAL?
georgerm replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
Yes, I agree that after they are proven to exist, they need strict laws protecting them from being shot. If their nesting area is discovered should these areas have limited access by hunters and loggers? How many acres should have limited access? Thanks for finding that report from Canada and I have been looking for it. -

That's what many believe, but I believe that laws to protect them are only necessary after they're proven to exist. As long as they remain a myth, they're safe from there vast majority of mankind. The occasional accidental shooting like this is always possible, even after discovery: https://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=9552 -

Nice to hear from you way up in Alaska. It's probably best to keep bigfoot restrictons that way but there is a downside to the law. If bigfoot shooting was open game for only one dead bigfoot then a dead bigfoot would help prove the species. Once one bigfoot is taken and the law can then change to have big fines for killing one. Somebody has to bring one in or proving its existence will take way too long. Alaska would be a good area to find one and bring it in for proof. Once it's proven it will be easier to protect. - Yesterday

Did Patty choose to not run away because it might have been pride since she is more human than a deer or bear that run away. Maybe bigfoots can hate and other animals can't hate. Maybe Patty and all bigfoots have pride and don't run from the little primate that tears up their forest with heavy equipment and bring down deer, elk, and bear with the bang stick that makes loud noises and smokes. Maybe bigfoots have pride and don't like being pushed around and have their hunting grounds torn up my heavy machines that smoke. Maybe bigfoots know when things are not fair and have the ability to hate. Wouldn't that be sad if we Americans are not so great because we make bigfoot's lives more difficult, mostly ignore them, and rather than helping them, the American government calls them a mythical creature.
-
^^^^ Patty walked away. Why Why did Patty walk away. Probably for the same reason any animal seems to walk away when encountered. If Patty was a deer, we probably wouldn't say, "She was leading us away from her young" It might be enough to accept the deer just trotted off and that is that. Because Patty looks human, we attribute higher reasoning. A Bigfoot creature may be able to have higher reason. It is not a requirement when we are describing Patty's actions limited to what we see in the PGF. What we see on the film is what we see. Do we really need Patty to be a higher animal who knows about Cameras, Guns, and so on? Sure, there might be consideration of survival outside of the PGF to consider. But again, limited to what we can see in the PGF that is not the case.

Indeed, I do. First of all, if my memory serves me correctly, the feds did not get involved at all, even though the incident occurred in a National Forest. The only official response was from California Fish and Wildlife. Secondly, The official response came subtle and rather late in the game. The department waited until the online furor was well established and Smeja and his partner had posted quite a bit of "testimony". Finally, they showed up at his door. We can safely assume they had checked both men out against their records and knew if they did or did not have the proper licenses and permits to harvest a bear, and if they'd either had past brushes with the law. Then their investigation began like so many do these days with a visit and questions with primarily serve as a perjury trap. I'm also quite confident that after talking with the men, they paid a visit to the site. -

norseman replied to georgerm's topic in General Bigfoot Discussion
I am a firm believer in logging. And reducing the fuel load on public forests. Its a shame that the Forest service tried to hide it from the public who obviously doesn’t understand wild land fire behavior. They unfortunately only understand it when their house burns down. Which is the inevitable result of bad policy decisions decades earlier. Deer and Elk also love the young browse that comes after a logging operation or a burn. The forest floor receives more light allowing younger plants and different species to thrive. But should you have quit? In the words of John Wayne? A man outta do what he thinks is right! The government is a giant bureaucracy. Anyone who has worked for them should understand. Anyone who doesn’t probably thinks it is ran like a business. It is not. There are secret agendas and public PR campaigns that don't always align. I don’t pay attention to much noise. Just the results. And if your forest is burning down around your ears each year? Somebody is not doing their job. -

If your right? That was pretty ballsy behavior. Bob Gimlin pulled a .30-06 rifle from his scabbard. And most Cowboys would have dumped her where she stood in 1967. Bob certainly could have if he had wanted to. And I am not trying to throw shade on anyone’s experience. But I don't think it’s a either or question. I think they are curious and I think they are masters of the woods. But I also do not think they are infallible either. Just my .02 cents.
