  2. I would have a very hard time shooting a Bigfoot unless it was self-defense. However, If I was in the woods and encountered Bigfoot and needed to defend myself, I would hope I was armed like this tough gal Vasquez from the movie Aliens. A baby pistol won't do.
  3. Bigfoot Possibilities to consider (and some I haven't thought up yet) : A) Bigfoot doesn't exist STOP B) Bigfoot doesn't exist but did at one time C) Bigfoot exists but is now extinct with Patty being one of the last few D) Bigfoot exists but is only encountered randomly. The government considers it unproven, so it doesn't care. E) Bigfoot exists and the government suspects it exists but just hasn't caught one yet F) Bigfoot exists and the government not only knows but has proof in the form of a body or live specimen G) Bigfoot exists as a human variant, and the government knows AND the government has active communication/ cooperation with these humans to keep them quiet H) Bigfoot exists and is a human altered by science by our government in some experiment. The government must keep this evil quiet. I) Bigfoot exists, they are aliens, the government is working with the aliens to keep them quiet.

    Skeptic friend had an encounter.

Hopefully, given some time to process, that change won't be a bad change, just awareness. It was a similar concern .. what's my risk level here? .. that got me into research in the first place some years before I ever heard of BFF. Proving / disproving existence, validating / invalidating the PGF, blah blah blah .. means nothing to me. What matters is living vs dying and from what I've learned, dying is more likely on the highway driving to the trailhead than it is from hairy bipeds in the woods. Good enough. I hope she'll come to a similar conclusion, find peace with sharing the woods, and not be deterred from her regular activities.
  6. One of my best friends lives in the La Grande, OR area and has for many years. He's a former USFS employee and his wife is an emergency room RN. They are prolific outdoorsy people who have spent most of their lives camping, hiking, hunting, horseback riding, and working in the mountains of Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. Super great folks. My friend and his wife have been skeptics of Bigfoot and whenever the subject came up, we would joke and laugh about it. They were both respectful, but just didn't believe. They had spent decades in the woods with no encounters, so couldn't wrap their heads around the concept. That all changed for the wife on Sunday. Her husband and his Navy buddy were with me at my family cabin in Idaho for the weekend, while she stayed in Oregon to take care of their horses. On Sunday, she decided to go on a hike/run in the mountains. What happened and what she saw/experienced is not exactly clear. She messaged me and asked if a firearm was a deterrent to BF. I said it depends. In most cases, a person having one means they are more likely to avoid you, but not in all cases. She then said that something happened and she wasn't sure what, but she is terrified and traumatized, and very confused. I was at work, so couldn't call her, but we messaged back and forth and she left an audio recording explaining why she was being vague about what she saw/heard. This is the location she gave me of the incident: I'll try to share what happened, but it's still unclear. Her husband returned home while we were discussing it and she understandably unloaded everything on him. Hopefully I can get more details after she recovers from the incident. Basically, she was in a pretty remote area doing a hike/jog as she is a fitness fiend and very active. She was wearing brightly colored athletic shorts, and a bright athletic top. She said she suddenly became aware of something large in the nearby trees/brush due to a vocalization that she described as both far away and at the same time, also nearby. She also indicated that there was some brush/trees being disturbed; something large was crashing through the trees. Her first thought was that she had surprised an elk. Whatever it was, it was very large and moved very quickly. Her words... "I think it was an elk crashing and then wolves but everything happened at once and I've been scared before, but never shaking head to toe... I heard grunting/growling but it was a ways away. At first I thought it was an elk, then crashing, then two howls or something. I realized by the second one it wasn't an elk." "I thought it was wolves but knew something wasn't good and I've had cats stalk me and other weird stuff but the fear I felt was weird." She indicated that she got into a stranger's pickup that came along, which she said she would never do unless she was terrified. Then she added this... "The weird part is its all confusing, I just remember crashing, grunting, and 2 howls and total body shaking lol like I don't remember it all which is also weird... all of the noises close and far... the guy that picked me up said I looked not OK." She then left an audio message that went into more detail about the strangeness of the incident due to the emotions she felt and a weird "connection" to whatever was in the woods. She was much more articulate and intelligent sounding in the recording than in the texts. I've known her for 15 years and she is extremely intelligent, rational, calm, and afraid of nothing. Current ER nurse and former rodeo queen who does horseback trips into the wilderness. In the audio file, she describes feeling like whatever was out there knew exactly where she was and what she was thinking. She stated that the sounds she heard were felt in her body, and she felt completely exposed and helpless. She also reiterated that she has had numerous encounters with predators over the years in the woods and has never felt anything as terrifying as this. She also says she may have seen something, but so much of the encounter is "missing" in her mind. Her reaction to anything disturbing in life is to research it. She does a deep dive on a subject until she feels properly educated about it. She was in the middle of this while we were messaging. I told her about infrasound and the effects it has. She said she found references to it and confirmed that's what she felt, but at a deeper and more psychic level. She said she was on the BFRO website and looking for encounters in her area. I encouraged her to make a report. She wanted to be sure it was anonymous. I assured her it was. I showed her pics of the tree I discovered the day before her encounter and she said she had seen the same thing. And she had seen the weird tree stacking and trees shoved into the ground with the roots sticking up. We ended our conversation with her apologizing for not believing me before. She said she believed deep down, but didn't want to acknowledge it because she didn't want to be afraid to run in the woods alone. Now she is. I hope she filed a report and I am planning on going down to visit soon and check out the site. It's great that now I have another friend that also believes, but I feel bad for her and her husband. Her love of the woods and her perception of the wild has been completely changed for the rest of her life.

    Field trips 2.0

I've been remiss in not reporting my field trips for the last couple of months, so I'll try to get back into it. I've made a number of outings, but had some problems with making my phone upload photos to the computer and got frustrated with trying to make it work. This evening i made a run up one of our local research areas that had been gated for active logging for almost a year, and took Thomas along for the ride. I'd heard that the gate was now open, since the logging had ended for the season, and we found the gate was indeed open. However, the contractor had obviously just completed cutting drainage cross ditches on the road, and did it very thoroughly! The new trenches were aggressively steep and very frequent, slowing progress to a crawl to avoid suspension damage or noggin bonking on the roof! We only got about 2/3 of the way to the summit before we decided that the effort to reach the top wasn't worth it. Here's a video that Thomas shot on the trip back down: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1WbkQxebhb/

  9. Having had an experience myself, no, I don't need Washington DC to bless my acceptance of sasquatch existence. Moreover, I have a vivid memory of my Dad telling me to forget the world accepting them, because they're better off with the world not knowing, and I couldn't believe he was saying that then................but I finally understand, and agree. But after coming to the conclusion that these creatures are likely a human species, and accepting the certainty that government knows of them, the realization of what that means becomes rather overwhelming. While I still think that Daddy knew best, I'm still considering what another human species out there means for history..........and today.............
  10. That’s WHY we are wrapped up in it! Bigfoot needs to be OUT of the pixies and gnomes category and into a living species category.👍 Millions of people are “crazy” until that day happens.

Why is the federal government mum on Bigfoot.

Y'all sure seem wrapped up in someone else officially recognizing whatever these creatures are. Isn't it enough that millions of our friends, neighbors, and relatives have had some kind of personal experience? I mean, if you believe the government is honest with it's subjects, you may as well believe in sasquatch!
  12. Endangered has nothing to do with physical attributes. What are their total numbers? Offspring survivability? Range shrinking or growing? Individuals healthy? Aging?
  13. We're mostly on the same page. Though I have a hard time describing them as endangered considering their weakest totally out classes our strongest. Maybe by human derived statistics, but let's be honest, they seem to do as they please ... where they please, by rules we can't quite comprehend.

    Meldrum is a knower now?

^^^^^ Excellent post. I'd like to expand on it............ Bobby Short passed away some years ago. She was an excellent data catcher and reporter. She wrote that Lyle "Laverty was associated with a personal Bigfoot sighting near Hyampom, California and a Bigfoot 'nest' found near Scorpion Creek in the Lonesome Ridge region........" http://www.bigfootencounters.com/articles/laverty.htm Like Meldrum's experiences, this is powerful for the individual involved. But, if true, this Leverty thing is huge in terms of him as a USFS timber cruiser supervisor and later Asst. Secretary of the Interior. Nowhere else do we read of this, although I believe Daniel Perez or another interviewer brings it up. Laverty kept it pretty quiet. Yet, when asked about Patterson and Gimlin, he expresses doubt about the film, and he clearly says that he cannot understand how a couple of Washington cowboys could show up and catch the footage of several lifetimes when so many spent so much time there and came up with so little. More conjecture, there. Like I wrote, lots of that conjecture stuff throughout...........

    Meldrum is a knower now?

Meldrum wrote about a personal encounter in his Legend Meets Science book. In 1997 he had a non-visual encounter in Northern California involving something coming into his camp at night and leaving large footprints. I didn't get the impression that this experience converted him into a knower but it probably nudged him in that direction. Standing may have tipped him over the edge. I'm ambivalent on Standing. I remember watching his Discovering Bigfoot documentary and thinking he seemed to push Meldrum into supporting Standing's claim of being the Jane Goodall of Bigfoot. Standing would keep encouraging Meldrum to do things to deepen his commitment, such as put an apple in a tree, do a Bigfoot call, confirm a foot impression is a Bigfoot print, or admit that he saw that shadow and it was a Bigfoot. It all seemed suspicious to me. A couple months ago I wrote about the anatomy of a hoax, and honestly I think Standing's behavior shows a similar pattern to Hansen's regarding the Minnesota Iceman, and unfortunately I think he may have been using Meldrum's desire to believe in Bigfoot as a pathway to convert Meldrum into a champion for Standing in the Bigfoot community. As @Huntster says, though, this is all conjecture. Here's my post for those interested. I'm not above a little self-promotion. https://thesocialbigfoot.substack.com/p/the-art-of-the-hoax
  16. It is difficult to find historical newspaper articles about a possible Bigfoot encounter in one state in the newspapers of that state. Like this one, the news articles all appear to be in papers from distant states. So we have news of an 18-inch tall hairy man found in Maine in the Perrysburg (OH) Journal on January 27, 1855. I believe that this encounter is also mentioned in the The Bigfoot Casebook by Janet and Colin Bord.
  17. My focus on Ft. Lewis is based primarily on it's regional location. First of all, it's in western Washington, which is clearly a hotspot continentally. Secondly, Ft. Lewis has been there as an Army post since 1917. That takes us back before Albert Ostman, before the Mt. St. Helen's miners, etc. It's definitely pre-modern Sasquatch Media. Thirdly, specific location of Ft. Lewis is absolutely key in that it's at the sountern end of Puget Sound. If animals migrate around the south end of the Sound rather than swim across, they'll walk on Ft. Lewis lands (unless they migrate around through lands more settled by civilians). I also make sure to qualify my position on Ft. Lewis with this: "If sasquatches exist, the Army at Ft. Lewis.........". This is, of course, because sasquatches might not exist. But, personally, I'm pretty confident that they do.............. Well, yeah, they aren't keeping it quiet. Sasquatchery has become huge. They can't keep that quiet. So they simply keep quiet about it officially, which is easy for them to do because they're very experienced at keeping things quiet............or confused. It's what they do with just about everything.
  18. My brother was stationed at Ft Lewis Washington about 20 years ago for many years. He never once heard this rumor in the US Army. It could be. He had basic clearance as a Sargent based on his MOS. Just not something he ever heard even as folklore/ wild rumors. there could be a long history of such reports and rumors in that area. Many thousands have served there over the decades. I can only relate his experience. when I consider what would be required to find, deal with, and keep quiet Sasquatch in the Washington ( or most places) it seems like a bridge too far to keep to quiet. Maybe there is a mechanism I’m not seeing.

    Meldrum is a knower now?

    Good post.
  21. This is completely impossible to prove......... Of course it's not impossible to prove! It is completely possible AFTER discovery. While your statement might be true, it certainly isn't infallibly so. Simple logic can lead to the opinion that, if sasquatches exist (especially on an Army post for over a century), government must know. One doesn't need to have a negative opinion of government to believe that. Indeed, such an opinion can be seen as very positive of government not being stupidly ignorant. Of course. indeed, for the Science community, I believe this is the case. But for the U.S. Army, inhabiting Ft. Lewis for over a century...............sorry. If there have been sasquatches running around, somebody there knew about it. I'm pretty sure they don't...............but am also pretty sure that they did have at least one.
  22. Yeah, well, I'm hoping that the size and caps illustrate my frustration.
  23. You might be right. Clearly, I am as delusional as the scientific consensus saying otherwise. Bigfoot has not been proven to be real. It has not been proven to be real at a level science in general accepts as a real proven living creature. This doesn't mean you are wrong as Bigfoot exists or doesn't exist on its own merits. Yet, to say Bigdot is proven to be real is just not so. There are those who have that opinion and many have very strong credentials. Keep in mind many who think Bigfoot is a hoax or folklore also have strong credentials. This is completely impossible to prove. There are those whose view of the GOVERNMENT requires this to be true. They cannot accept bigfoot might be real and yet just an unproven primate. Their own opinion of Bigfoot and their own opinion of the Government REQUIRES the government to 1) know bigfoot exists and 2) does all it can to cover it up. Isn't it just as possible bigfoot is real, near extinct and there just isn't strong enough evidence to convince most of the science community of bigfoot existence? A body would do it. We don't have a body at this time. Let me guess: The Government HAS a body and they have LOTS of Bodies. That is jumping a shark, a Big Shark. I just see a simpler straight forward world existing on this issue. I see this as no different than whatever the Pre-PANDA world was. Whatever the Pre-Duck Billed Platypus world was. Just one man's opinion. I could very well be wrong. My reasoning doesn't require as many successful moving parts

    Meldrum is a knower now?

I have no knowledge of any "proof" that Standing is a fraud. My exposure to the allegations of his fraudulence goes back way more than 8 years. I discounted all things Standing at least 20 years ago. That is based on "conjecture": an opinion or conclusion formed on the basis of incomplete information.........which is what the entire sasquatch phenomenon is. Conjecture. This is a world of conjecture. We are awash in it. Completely immersed. Nothing is proven. Opinion is pretty much all we have to go on, and opinions are not like..............well, you know. They're more like toes and fingers collectively. Everybody has lots and lots of them..............

    Meldrum is a knower now?

There is a heck of alot more to evidence that Standing is a Con man than Paulides??? Paulides is simply reporting on missing persons cases on public lands. And the government cover up. Standing wants the Canadian government to recognize Bigfoot as a real species based on a couple of photos! Errmm… muppets!🤷🏻‍♂️ This best thing our community can do is ONLY accept physical evidence. But if Paulides is a con man? Standing IS Bernie Madoff! 🤨
  26. Government silence: There was an old skit from Saturday Night Live back in the 1970s where President Carter becomes giant from a Pepsi spill on the control panel at a nuclear energy factory. Once President Carter becomes nearly 100Ft tall (from radiation poisoning) reporters ask the government questions. Here is the governments answer: Female Reporter #1: Yes, is it true that the president is 100 feet tall? Ross Denton: Nooooo! Absolutely not! Male reporter #3: Is the president 90 feet tall? Ross Denton: No comment. OK, maybe a non- answer IS an answer after all. :-)
  27. Sasquatch is real. The U.S. Forest Service and other branches of government know it, and the reason they don’t openly acknowledge it has little to do with logging, despite what some people believe. The real reason for silence runs much deeper—and it would be profoundly destabilizing if the truth were admitted. Why Logging Isn’t the Issue Some argue that confirming Sasquatch would force vast tracts of forest to be shut down for conservation, crippling logging operations. That explanation is convenient, but it misses the bigger picture. In reality, logging protections would be a small policy change compared to the tectonic shock society would experience if we fully grasped what Sasquatch actually represents. Beyond Human Understanding These beings are not just another undiscovered primate. Witness accounts and field evidence suggest that Sasquatch possess abilities that challenge our most basic assumptions about physics, biology, and even consciousness. They seem able to evade detection far too effectively for their size, moving with speed and silence no known mammal can match. Some encounters describe shifts in perception, time distortions, and sudden feelings of disorientation—all phenomena that defy current science. If verified, this would mean that Sasquatch has access to dimensions of reality we don’t yet understand. Imagine what it would do to: Physics: Our current models of matter, energy, and perception would have to be rewritten. The ripple effects on technology and weaponry would be enormous. Biology: Human beings would no longer sit comfortably atop the evolutionary narrative. Sasquatch would represent a parallel lineage with capabilities we can’t reproduce. Religion & Philosophy: Entire belief systems would be shaken. Proof of a being that interacts with the physical world in ways beyond comprehension would challenge everything from creation stories to our sense of what it means to be human. The Detriment of Disclosure Society depends on consensus reality—shared rules about how the world works. Admitting that a living species can bend or bypass those rules would destabilize public trust in science, government, and religion simultaneously. Scientific institutions would lose credibility overnight as the limits of their models were exposed. Religious communities would fracture between those who embrace Sasquatch as divine evidence and those who reject it as heresy. Governments would be inundated with panic, conspiracy, and demands for control of a phenomenon they themselves don’t fully understand. Markets would reel as people scrambled to exploit or weaponize knowledge of Sasquatch’s abilities. The secrecy, then, isn’t about protecting loggers. It’s about protecting society from truths we may not be ready to process. Until our scientific and cultural frameworks evolve to handle the existence of such beings, silence is the safer path. There is no other logical explanation. Anyone claiming its about logging is quite simply not ready to go as deep as this subject requires.
