Not Smeja. He was from VA or PA maybe. Shot one center mass and an adult took the juvenile over its shoulder and went straight up a cliff face with it.

Hunter called game warden? who took the blood/flesh sample out of the snow, in a plastic bag. The next day? the good cop/bad cop "men in black" show up and tell him: YOU SHOT A BEAR and there will be consequences if any other story is told.

Who was that? Did the story fall apart or is it legit?

No. That's what I'm looking for. Can't remember the guy's name, have searched the circumstances to no avail. He seemed credible and told a convincing story but sometimes these unravel with further telling. I think he finally went to a conference or 2, but I may be confusing him with the late Mike Wooley.

I remember it. Tazwell County, VA  I believe. It was a radio call-in …no idea if it was ever explored further.
