Forty-three monkeys escaped from a compound used for medical research in South Carolina but the nearby police chief said there is "almost no danger” to the public.

“They are not infected with any disease whatsoever. They are harmless and a little skittish,” Yemassee Police Chief Gregory Alexander said Thursday morning.

The Rhesus macaque primates escaped from the Alpha Genesis facility Wednesday when a new employee didn't fully shut an enclosure, Alexander said.

The monkeys are females weighing about 7 pounds (3 kilograms) and are so young and small that they haven't been used for testing, police said.

Some have said this might be a orangutan on the loose.

 

 

  Who knows.   Gotta think there are at least a few exotic animals who got loose. Imagine if they don’t capture all these monkey

And that skunk ape is creepy as all git out! The only problem I saw with the Orangutan theory was the teeth. Maybe someone stuck some vampire teeth on their pet Orang and started taking pictures?

Definitely a popular news item these days. I posted about the escapees in Campfire Chat. Remember, they are harmless and hungry. The score is macaques 43, humans 0.

A person came forward and admitted to the skunk ape hoax. I will check my files. Many times I have thought about the 'skunk apes' as being escapees from a circus during the wintering period of idle circuses.
