Guest JiggyPotamus
Personally I prefer using the name already associated with the animals in their respective geographic regions. So if I said sasquatch, you would know I was referring to the North American variety, and if I said Yeren or Yowie, you would know I was referring to the region where these names are used. It just seems like the simplest idea in my mind. But, I also believe that if they are to be found all over the globe, and if they exist then that is a likely possibility, then they will differ from one another in many aspects although I cannot speculate on whether they would differ enough to be labelled as different species of the same genus, or do they have different genera altogether? But if I had to pick a name to encompass the animal the world over, and it was to be scientific in nature, I would at least include "pilosus," meaning hairy, if I am not mistaken. If I had to choose or contribute to a name that wasn't scientific, my choice would be "hairy." LOL. Maybe something like "hairy-monkey-man," or maybe an amalgamation hair, big, and foot resulting in "Habigot." Ya, but I'm weird, so I wouldn't listen to anything I say if I were you, lol. But really, although I don't think we need a name that encompasses the animal worldwide, I do think we need to settle on what to call the North American sasqui...And this could be done for other regions that are in close proximity. Also, as you may have noticed I prefer the term "sasqui" when referring to the animals in the plural. This does not seem to have caught on, and I don't even remember where I picked it up. I just thought that it would eliminate the confusion between "bigfeets, sasquatches, bigfeetses, bigfoots, sasquatcheses, bigfootseses, etc." Edited January 9, 2012 by JiggyPotamus
Guest
Im probably with the combo ideas and would think hairyhom, or hairy crytominid would be catchy and somewhat descriptive. This might be less descriptive but I also thought 'Who' might be alright - Wild Hairy One. There are threads on the forum asking what sound BF or Sasquatch has, and due to lack of a name encompassing the little hairy ones, yowies, yeti's etc, people who have heard hairyhoms in their country or the small ones in the US join in on the BF thread (as there is no other name provided for them). Unless people feel they are only exclusively asking questions about Big Foot and Sasquatch and dont want input from people from other countries or people who are witness to the little hairy on in the US - then it would be good to have a group name clearly invitining response from all hairyhoms or cryptominids or WHO's (wild hairy ones). I like the idea of Hairyhom or WHO (wild hairy one). Edited January 9, 2012 by Encounter
Guest
...all reported BHM's(Big Hairy Monsters) no matter how varied the description... I find good (and succinct), the general principle as given above. The expression BHM (originally coined, I believe, by Janet and Colin Bord) is quite widely used in some circles. I prefer to employ the variant MHB (mysterious hairy biped), since that can be reckoned inclusive of small cryptid bipedal probably-primates (the Orang Pendek and others), as well as the giants. Admit to preferring my MHB to Encounter's WHO; personal bias there, no doubt... Edited January 9, 2012 by Thady

JDL
I think that most of the regional cultural names translate loosely to "Wild Men."
Guest bsruther
I'm more curious about what the collective noun for Bigfoots might be. We already have names like: Cartload of Chimpanzees Band of Gorillas Troop of Monkeys Buffoonery of Orangutans Blessing of Unicorns How about, a Scream of Bigfoots? Guest Jodie
I fall back on a Team of Bigfoot, I don't know why, but it sounds better than herd or tribe, and is kind of neutral on the ape vs human categorization.
