Whistles, screams, mimicry (elk) Plus locomotion on 2 legs and 4 legs. And back at camp they were throwing pinecones at them. Dunno. They needed some FLIR. And I am convinced that a shotgun isn’t a replacement for a rifle in these situations. 1
wiiawiwb Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I've found that a lot of people just don't want to talk about a sighting or encounter. It scared them to the point they won't go back into the woods. I knew of a guy who was a mountain of a man. You think there's nothing he would be fearful of. He, and another person, had a sighting at night as it watched the two of them. It took a few years before he would even consider hiking much less sasquatching. Nowadays, the stigma that used to be attached to openly discussing it is gone. That's a good thing. 1
guyzonthropus Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago The beginning reminded me a little of the Bauman story, where they're not finding any "fur-bearing varmits" and so go ever deeper into the remote forest, just as these guys went from valley to valley, ever deeper! I'm just glad this story had no gamboiling involved!

Shotguns have a little more forgiveness in terms of aim. I'd prefer a shotty for a close quarters fight because 1. slam firing 2. spray area difference 3. no need to aim down scope

Against a massive apex predator that will rip your arms off? I want penetration through bone. Soft lead pellets don’t penetrate well. And I want more powder behind the projectile. More oomph. I want exit holes through bone and tissue. I don’t want flatten lead mashed against thick bone.

I know there are people that talk up shotgun slugs for bear defense. But nobody in Africa hunts with one. A shotgun with slugs is the best that platform can offer, and you can shoot grouse and rabbits with it. Very versatile. But not as dedicated or capable as a big bore rifle. https://www.garrettcartridges.com/4570.html And then practice, practice. I cannot right now with my chest unfortunately. And it’s fun too!
norseman Posted 5 hours ago Admin Author Posted 5 hours ago I’ve seen guys roll tires down a hill too.
7.62 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I think I would be pretty cool with just about any rifle or shotgun if my threat was a bigfoot while trying to clear out of an area . In this story if it's truthful I dont think it would have made any difference what they were carrying . There was more than one stalking them or trying to push them out of the area and if they wanted to kill them Im pretty sure they would have been able to.

I have one leaning in the corner of my bedroom loaded with buck shot .
