I was hesitant to post this as it almost certainly seems to be a human male - haven't we all seen a lame drifter wander into town and transform themselves into a terror who can outmaneuver hundreds of searchers.  The description in the paper of being clothed in a gunny sack may be true (and this is a man), or it may that stating "the wild man is buck naked and covered with hair" was too much for the sensibilities of the time.  Published in The Record American, Mahonoy City (PA), November 18, 1920.  This story is also in Bigfoot in New York and New England by Paul and Robert Bartholomew as the Malone Wild Man.
