South Dakota 1856 - The Arkansas Wild Man Heads North

Admittedly, identification of this as a South Dakota encounter is tenuous.  The story mentions Brant Lake and Sunflower Prairie as known locations.  New York has a Brant Lake, but its in the Adirondacks, without any prairies.  There is also a Brant Lake in southeast South Dakota, and while the terrain nearby is now farmed, it probably was largely prairie in the 1850s.  The story was published in the Jackson (CA) Amador Ledger on June 14, 1856.
