The first story was published in The Saginaw (MI) News on October 26, 1891.  Tirademan found some Michigan story from 1892 and I found the second story below, which was published by the Maitland (New South Wales, Australia) Mercury on January 07, 1892.  As the truncated story appears to relate to the earlier, fulsome report, I've combined the earlier post with this one.
