Trogluddite Posted 20 minutes ago Posted 20 minutes ago Forums member Catmandoo gave the Forums the earliest complete description of the Dover Devils back in 2005. The moniker "Dover Demon" was first widely used in 1924 for a boxer out of Dover, New Hampshire. In the 1940s through 1950s, the name "Dover Demons" was common for local or high school teams in several states. There is no indication that "Demon(s)" referred to anything other than the ferociousness of the athletes involved. Searching "Dover Demon," the name for these creatures attributed to Lauren Coleman, will give Forum members a page of results to sift through. The news articles at the time were skeptical that anything was seen. The first is from the Transcript-Telegram of Holyoke (MA) on May 16, 1977. The second is from The Boston (MA) Globe on June 03, 1977.
