New Film Shown at South by South West "Capturing Bigfoot"

Long time since I've been on here, so I jumped on this am after seeing this article floating around on Reddit. Does anyone know someone that was in attendance? Any ideas how the community is going to react? For me personally knowing Bob it bothers me a bit but at the end of the day what does it look like if the PG Film gets gutted as a pillar of proof for so many?

On our radio show, I called it last year in our year in review that the fate of the bigfoot community will stand in their ability to adapt to coming change. The change may be here, and it's not the DNA project that's been slow moving, it's a pillar being shook that many have held onto as the foundation of proof for what they think is out there. The world is far stranger than we understand, there is more out there than we can see with out own two eyes. In my opinion, the truth of the Sasquatch rests within the First Nations stories and not in some dusty film canister from 1967. What's the general here consensus at the moment?

Also, Feel free to move this to the PG Film page if it fits better there. I posted under general since its kinda news related and figured it would have better visibility to visitors since "bigfoot" is trending on google at the moment.

Yes, indeed. I was following the discussion on Reddit last night, and  contributing to it.

 

See my post from a while ago. This seems like the debunking doc. There is or was a 3 hour one in the pipeline that was staking the claim for authenticity too. I eagerly await that, and hope it has not been halted by the sad passing of Dr Meldrum.

 

 

It may not be quite the death blow to the PGF that it's being talked up to be though. Being here in the UK, I haven't seen this yet - but from the descriptions that have been posted on Reddit, I believe the ''footage reveal' they are talking about sounds a lot like the footage mentioned in the Harry Kemble memo, which if true would be kind of neat as this has never seen the light of day probably since Harry reported seeing it. I wrote a comment saying as much on Reddit yesterday. 

 

They are calling the footage a 'woodsey dress rehearsal' for the PGF. The film makers and hardened sceptics will no doubt puff this up for all it's worth as some kind of smoking gun, which if it is the Kemble footage, it most certainly won't be. As far as I know there is no connection between the Kemble footage and the PGF, apart from Roger - but they were filmed in different locations months apart using different cameras, filmstock and techniques and in wildly different circumstances.

I already know Roger was a con man. And I am very well acquainted to the dusty old bars filled full of Cowboys. The pranks, the cheats and the shenanigans. I was one of them. Albeit a generation behind.

 

For me? The smoking gun would have to be an explanation for Patty herself.

Thanks for the info. I haven't delved into it, but I have one question, if anyone knows an answer: Is Kitikaze (old BFF skeptic) involved with the latest attempt to disprove PGF?

Well, by this point, it's been aired once at the festival. One would have to think that the producers hope to sell/market it to a major TV channel or streaming service.  If so, we should all be able to see it somewhere this year.  Great catch.

FYI - This is what a slightly mysterious Reddit user (with a profile that had only just been created) commented about this doc. I'm not sure how close they are to the production. Maybe they are guessing, or maybe it's actually Marq Evans himself - who knows.

What Evans’ film is going to show is admissions by Patterson family members of the hoax and Patterson’s first attempt at creating Patty. There are some important distinctions to make. Firstly, what I will call the PAF vs the PGF. The PAF is he Patterson Ahtanum Film shot in May of 1966 in the South Fork of the Ahtanum Valley in Yakima. This was an attempt at a fictional film featuring Roger Patterson, Bob Heironimus. Howard Heironimus, John Ballard, Jerry Merritt as cowboys, Bob Gimlin as a native tracker and an unnamed prospector as they track Bigfoot to a mystical mountain where they encounter the creature. This would later be re-filmed and released as Sasquatch: The Legend of Bigfoot in 1976.

What is key to note here and how it relates to Marq Evans’ documentary is the context and what is revealed in his film. Roger Patterson’s involvement in the subject of Bigfoot began after he read two articles written by Ivan T. Sanderson in the December 1959 and March 1960 issues of True Magazine detailing and illustrating alleged Bigfoot encounters. It was the latter 1960 issue of the magazine detailing the William Roe story of an encounter with a retreating female Bigfoot that was the nexus for Patty.

Patterson attempted to use this as a model for the reveal of the Bigfoot in his 1966 PAF film. This is the film that is shown in Marq Evans’ documentary that has been lost until now. It features a female Bigfoot retreating from a sudden encounter the same as the PGF moving in a similar fashion. One of the most important details here is that the person wearing the suit in the PAF is none other than Al DeAtley.

This was the test run for the PGF and the fictional film setting was abandoned by Patterson and DeAtley in favour of presenting a short film as an actual encounter. Instead of the team of cowboys and native tracker, the setting was changed to have only Patterson and Gimlin with Heironimus wearing the suit.

Marq Evans’ came by this footage by luck. He was born in Yakima and his father worked for Al DeAtkey’s construction company. As a documentary film instructor, the woman in possession of the PAF just happened to also be working at the college where Evans was teaching. The family connection between her and the Patterson family was then established.

It was only after acquiring this film and beginning the documentary process that he was able to get confessions from Patterson family members - Patterson’s wife Patricia and his son Clint.

So what people are going to see in Capturing Bigfoot is most importantly going to be Patterson’s initial attempt at making the female Bigfoot encounter, the family admissions, and Clint Patterson and Bob Heironimus attempting to confront Bob Gimlin at an October 2024 Bigfooter conference.
