Why is Bigfoot so hard to track, stalk, and capture?

I think the answer almost has to be a hybrid version of what MIB asked above:  "Are there a) lots of bigfoots but they are super sneaky or b) only a few bigfoots but they are fairly clumsy, inept at hiding, so those few are seen fairly frequently?"

I propose a possibility c) There are only a few hundred (or, maybe a few thousand) Bigfoot left AND they are super sneaky.  How that plays into the sad possibility that they may be on the verge of extinction I don't know.  But, I think it's either that, or we are dealing with critters far beyond our current Scientific paradigms.  I'm currently about 50-50 between those two options.  The only thing I'm 99.9% sure of is that Bigfoot exist and that they have, and probably still do, walk on planet Earth.

The human population of this planet has quadrupled in just the last century:

  • 10,000 BCE: About 4 million people lived on Earth after the shift toward agriculture.
  • 1 CE: Around 170 million to 300 million people.
  • 1804: Reached 1 billion for the first time, taking all of human history.
  • 1927: Reached 2 billion (123 years later).
  • 1960: Reached 3 billion (33 years later).
  • 1974: Reached 4 billion (14 years later).
  • 1987: Reached 5 billion (13 years later).
  • 1999: Reached 6 billion (12 years later).
  • 2011: Reached 7 billion (12 years later).
  • 2022: Reached 8 billion on November 15, 2022 (11 years later)

I think any hominid that is still eeking out an existence while sharing the planet with Homo Sapien cousins are gonna be dang good at avoidance. And part of that avoidance survival strategy will be being super sneaky. But it also ensures that they will be low in numbers. Too high of a population leads them into direct conflict with us. And when I mean “us”…. I mean Pleistocene Humans. A couple of hundred men armed with spears or bows and fire.

Only humans organize in such high numbers for combat. I think long ago they learned to stay hidden.

21 species in the genus Homo. Officially we are all that’s left. I don’t think that’s by chance.

Thanks for the numbers, I didn't realize that historic human population growth was so dramatic.  As I understand, the annual growth rate is currently only about .84% (probably for the best).  I even read  that human population is projected to actually decrease slowly starting sometime between 2050 and 2086 (2086 is as per the UN Populations Division).  I intend to look into the projected causes for that (along with about a billion other things on my 'research list', lol).  I currently ask AI/google/Siri/Alexa about 100 questions/day and I'm trying not to break the Internet...

How many people are actually looking for Bigfoot with any realistic chance/method of success though?  A few thousand??

Maybe a hundred?

^ Yeah, your estimate is probably closer to the truth.  Although, me and my dog, Gracie, do look for BF in the bushes at our Botanic Garden here.  It's only a few acres though, with about 2 or 3 squirrels for food so; I wonder what their 'caloric intake' would be.  ;)

Bigfoot like creatures have been reported from places around the world, and if we go back into world history, we will probably find reports of bigfoot like creatures being captured or killed.  Evidence of these events was never presented to a group of primate biologist so proof of a bigfoot-like creature was never established and the topic became a myth and not a proven monster. Some of these reports describe human like monkeys while other ones describe bigfoot like creatures that became myths. Are these reports of bigfoot/human like apes just imagination or are they based on old reports from intelligent villagers? Research some of these reports and give your take on one or two. Go to Bigfoot - Wikipedia to find these reports. Click one of the reports below.

That's probably not a bad estimate, although that depends on their definition of success. If we include those who had unlooked for encounters, probably more. Some of those go into searching for answers etc.

Bigfoot like creatures have been reported from places around the world, and if we go back into world history, we will probably find reports of bigfoot like creatures being captured or killed. This report comes from Scotland.

In Scottish folklore, Am Fear Liath Mòr (Scottish Gaelic for 'Big Grey Man'; pronounced [əm ˈfɛɾ ʎiə ˈmoːɾ]; (also known as the Big Grey Man of Ben Macdui or simply the Greyman) is the name for a presence or creature which is said to haunt the summit and passes of Ben Macdui, the highest peak of the Cairngorms and the second highest peak in the British Isles after Ben Nevis.[1]

Description

Although there have been many purported encounters with the Big Grey Man, few eyewitnesses report to have actually seen the creature. It is said to be very thin and over ten feet (three metres) tall, with dark skin and hair, long arms, and broad shoulders.[2] Most often, the creature remains unseen in the fog of the mountain, with encounters limited to the sound of crunching gravel as it walks behind climbers and a general feeling of unease around the mountain.[3] Tangible evidence of its existence is limited to a few photographs of unusual footprints, so the majority relies on the credibility of eyewitness encounters.[4]

Unlooking for encounters, as you put it, probably accounts for over half of the actual bigfoot sightings. Read my post that precedes your post for those who were unlooking for encounters and had a strange encounter in the mountains of Scotland.

Interesting question.   The answer hides in "realistic" .. and despite some strong beliefs, nobody truly knows that is or is not realistic so far as approaches.   Maybe we are all tilting at the windmill's reflection instead of the windmill.   If so, the number of people with a realistic chance of success is .. zero.   Maybe the only thing we are doing right, at all, is by being out there trying futilely, we are at least putting ourselves in a place where a fortunate accident can happen.

Certainly the lack of results producing scientific acceptance, something true since before the PGF, which will be 60 years next fall, suggest we are not doing something very effectively ... not you, not me, not BFRO, not .. anybody.   So for the moment, I'll say "zero."

I think the proliferation of formal and informal group expeditions suggests that numerous approaches are effective in producing encounters of various kinds, which may mean success to the people who learn things from them. Those who press for scientific acceptance/discovery are going to be unsuccessful then, I agree, as I don't see that happening anytime soon.

What approaches to documenting bigfoot are the best ones?

WE STILL HAVE BFRO BIGFOOT ENCOUNTERS BEING PRODUCED IN AMERICA AS YOU PUT IT. BIGFOOT MYTHS ARE WASHED AWAY WHEN WE HAVE REAL AND RECENT MONSTER REPORTS LIKE THIS ONE. WE STILL HAVE REPORTS BEING DOCUMENTED AND SOME PERCENTAGE OF THEM ARE PROBABLY TRUE. THE AREA THIS FELLOW WAS IN SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD AREA TO HAVE AN ENCOUNTER WHICH ADDS WEIGHT TO THIS REPORT ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT HE IS A HUNTER WHO PROBABLY SPENDS LOTS OF TIME IN THE WOODS. THIS REPORT SOUNDS TRUE TO LIFE SO BIGFOOT PASSES FROM A MYTH BACK TO A MONSTER.

This is a bit rhetorical, not looking for an answer, rather, suggesting a question we should each ask ourselves.

In light of others' responses, I want to look at this question again from a different angle.   Success at what?   Personal experience or scientific acceptance .. or something else (if so, what)?   These are not the same thing.   A lot of people continue having personal experiences that I strongly suspect are legitimate.   Documented .. in a sense .. in that they are shared here and other places.   Not rigorously enough for scientific use, but documented.   I don't think these personal experiences are moving the needle toward acceptance.   Maybe they silence a few hecklers but there are plenty of those remaining.

So .. what is the goal?   What is your goal, my goal, "our goal", "community goal"?   If they are not the same, which are moving forward and which have stalled?
