Great video—I really appreciate it telling why so many samples are taken. I was privileged to go with a group from Mass. Herpetological Society to see the back storage rooms of reptiles and amphibians at Harvard University’s Zoology Museum. Understanding that scientists and students still use them is fascinating.

The first video described a major bird beak project where they scanned bird beaks in 3D, and bird experts from all over the world can view these scans for various reasons. There are many extinct homo species and possibly some museums have stored away and boxed bones that belong to known species but more bones will help to build entire skeletons. With 3D bone scans these skeletons can be reconstructed without traveling long distances to museums. Many Homo species have bones such as only a jawbone that could be linked to other museums with more bones of the same species.
