Another study that is poorly handled in my opinion and is turning into a soap opera.

This time however it isn't the people involved directly, its because of those who have made themselves involved.

In my very honest opinion of course.

Not sure it indicates any conclusion...although I have to think Nat Geo would not fund a documentary that essentially conlcuded "nothing to this"....but I don't read this recent update to say there would not be a published paper too. Whatever his outcome is/will be , I would think he'd publish it. Even inconclusive results bear publishing, if that is what they are.

I hear you WSA. I am not sure how much integrity is left in the Natural History type channels. The Discovery Channel opened shark week this year with a really badly done mockumentary on Megalodon, so I'm not so sure anymore about any of them. Animal Planet, History Channel, they all seem to jump the shark ( pardon the pun) at some point lately...

True, that. My wife and kids were all breathless the next morning, couldn't wait to tell me all about Megaladon. I really hated to pop that bubble, but it is a pretty cruel scam to play on a gullible 8 and 9 y.o. Inevitably, people I've talked to about that compare the "possibility" of Meg with Sasquatch. I do blame FBF for that lumping together with lots of plainly made up crap.

But, I do hold out an outdated belief there are men and women of integrity in this field we are all so interested in. If those exist, Sykes is one. If he is not, pretty much all hope is lost for a serious discussion.

Sure Darrell, that outcome is always one possibility. "Integrity" does not imply Sykes has to cater to my assumptions about what the evidence will show. I make no assumptions until I see the conclusions and the data. I only use the word to describe what I think a true scientist should be...no agenda, no bias and no pronouncements of what the evidence should/might show before the time the process is completed and published. Let it speak for itself, when it is completed, the chips to fall where they may fall.

^I agree with you on that. Yes, I am skeptical, but after the Ketchum fisasco maybe everyone should be of these typles of studies. At least a little.

I could be completely wrong, of course, but I don't get the sense Mr. Sykes is just looking to cash in or make a quick splash. Genetics is his passion, his life and his reputation. You just don't squander those lightly. We'll just have to wait and see though.

Can I hold you to that?   ;)

You could be free right this minute, dmaker. It's reeeeeeelly easy......   :)

WSA, no worries. If Sykes goes under, someone else will take up the baton. The truth will out, eventually. That's just how it works.  :)

I often wonder if the 'bandwagon approach' to research is alot like too many groupies and roadies on the stage at one time.

Perhaps it is thought that it gives the effort more than face validity......   who knows?

I tend to think it may be too many cooks spoiling the broth personally, but we shall see (or not).
