Guest
This topic is about the possibilities that Man and BF might be able to "talk" to each other. What are the chances? What I know some first nation people stories tell that BFs have a language, although not understood by them at that time. With all our modern technology and knowledge will we be able to get into contatct? If they are as close as some believe this might be possible I think. Guest BastetsCat
LOL, I babble on and on almost nonstop, ask any of my friends I am a chatterbox. I don't just talk to people, I talk to the dog, the cats, the horses. When I was out in area by river I used to talk and talk and talk. I halfway think it got their attention. They certainly did not hide from me like they did from others. Though I certainly got the feeling at times that one or two thought about snatching me up and running off with me. Or maybe they just wanted to drown me in the river to make me shut up....LOL. The samuri chatter showed language. I looked at the reports and stuff that had been done up by the language expert. It is a compelling thought that they have language. It is a compelling thought that they are somewhat human. In order to learn that language you would almost have to have one of them to teach it. I don't think that will happen any time soon. I do think it would be interesting to speak to the kids that were found like in the missing 411 books. The ones that said the bear cuddled with me. Just to ask the kids; did the bear talk to you? How did you understand what the bear wanted ect.
Guest
Sure we can talk to them. Talk all you want if you can find them It's whether they will listen or understand or answer back that is the question! If you are asking "do you think there will come a day when we can communicate and get to know one another" - there are about a half million things that need to happen before anyone gets to that point. The goal of communication assumes they HAVE a language or the capability to understand one, and the physical ability to speak in a manner that we could understand (though I did watch a fascinating story on a whistled language the other day). It would be a nice goal to have but you'd have to jump a lot of hurdles to 1) find a troop nearby so you are able to get there, 2) become really comfortable with each other on a consistent basis of contact, 3) actually see one another 4) be close enough to hear vocalizations without threats 5) trade words for common objects or names 6) )break down their language (with many sampes) and understand words they say that correlate with our words. There's a whole lot of unknowns in this question.
Guest
Yes, I thought myself if this would be understood the wright way. And for sure I am talking about conversation, dialog. Yes, I know the samurai chatter, sierra sounds etc. and also the results from the (I dont know his name) ex navy crypt specialist that finds speech in the sierra sounds. I ask myself if this are legit recordings, specialy the sierra sounds. There are apes that are trained to communicate via touchscreen and similar. They dont have a spoken language so thats the only way. But with BF this might be different. Do the sierra sounds really convince you?

Guest
This could be nearly like a "first contact" situation, really. It will be a difficult thing to do.
Rockape
Data, that's just what I was going to suggest, sign language. I've seen that documentary before and it's facinating.

Guest
This could be nearly like a "first contact" situation, really. It will be a difficult thing to do. I got that idea to. Specially after Youtube suggested such a "first contact" video. Maybe reality goes something like this @rockape: Good idea. But as the samurai chatter indicates they might actually be able to talk. Maybe not english. But it would be interesting to know, which language uses the least "Tones" and has the simplest grammatical structure. @poignant: Why Enok? What connection to speak do you imply? Guest
The video of Koko has me thinking. I use sign language when I work with the babies at the child care center that I work at. It helps them learn language and they can express themselves with language instead of just crying and us trying to interpret. We use "all done", "drink", "milk" and "more" at lunch time and when they want a bottle. I wonder if I learned some very basic sign - hello, my name is..., etc - if I could intrigue the potentially observing bigfoots into interaction some day. I've always wondered what would have happened if I'd stayed and tried to communicate with them when they were annoyed and vocalizing at me instead of getting out of Dodge...Anyone tried sign language? Guest
The question is how to teach them sign language. If they have speech, we can surely figure it out, and simple tell them, without them cooperating or have to learn anything. What kind of vocalization did you get madison? Guest
Someday, I think so. Now, one said "hello" to me, and of course I freaked and booked out of there. And there are a few stories of them saying words in English and more stories of them speaking Native tongues. To me, the fact it said hello, which is the first thing you would say to a person, bodes well for their understanding of language. However, so far, I have not heard them speaking more English more intelligently than a parrot would--mind you parrots are quite smart and may understand the language more than we give them credit for, generally. (I think I have read of studies, and I know I have heard anecdotal evidence for it.)
Guest
There is the bird Alex, who actually USES language to communicate, not just repeat it back. He uses it in context and asks & answers questions. I've heard recordings of them using English online (FWIW), so it's possible. I hope someday to be able to let you know. I'll get back to you on that one Data, I got huffing and chuffing vocalizations, "whooflings" I called them. Deep, gutteral "hoof"'s when they wanted me out of their area at dark. Scared the doo doo out of me. Edited December 3, 2012 by madison5716
