Consequences For Hoaxers

Perhaps a psychological assessment as well?

We may be able to filter out potential hoaxers before they even get the idea to pull one off?

Waste of financial resources.

Perhaps a section should be started called "Crap you don't know but should and we already know" or something like that and every newbie has to read it and take a test before they can post!

Cervelo,

This is a great idea for a introductory book (or paper) into Bigfoot (All the hoaxes, cons, mistakes, etc. that have happened in the past and have muddied the waters, and will likely continue happeing in the future).

Unfortunately, the majority of BF books are pro BF and do not include the rich history of hoaxing and how to tread water in this field.

The test idea is intriguing, but I will fail it if I have to recognize every hoaxer that RayG listed on his list. :scratchhead:

I will love to see a curriculum required to pass the test like the key papers, books, research reports that every BF student should have read (both pro and con).

Maybe this exists already.

I just joined the Pemium section and saw a lot of good papers posted and am looking forward to reading them.

Nonetheless, the best advice to new people is not to drink any cool-aid unless and until you see the evidence yourself and to do your own due diligence.

Well, this is something that will just continue to repeat itself over and over again if we can't find a way to make people aware of the known hoaxers.

Thing is even though some people are known hoaxers, there is little we all can do to stop much of anything.

I think the people that have taken the time to be involved with the BF subject know who is who, hoaxing will always be a problem and a list although handy will only continue to get bigger until people stop paying attention to them, that in it's self will never happen because some are so focused on proving this creature exists that any BF event is a positive to them, so to question it's authenticity is completely out of the question, in fact they will fuel the hoax in many cases, best thing anyone can do is to question everything and never assume based on word alone, ask for proof, more than likely you will never get any.

Ed Smith posted today, on this forum, that he had been hoaxing for over 4 years. He also insinuated that the MABRC was aware of it or involved in some way. Regardless, he has admitted to being a hoaxer.

Can you link to the post? I followed that story until about a week ago, and it seems it blew up while I wasn't paying attention. The thread has been locked, so I'm not sure where to go to read what the resolution to that was?

Seems like the least that could be done is put all of the info on the table. Show the data collected during the investigation.

Show his entire M.O. so it may be recognizable to others when he or someone else tries again.
