David NC Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 How could it have escaped from a Circus years ago before 1895? The first live gorilla to be shipped to America was in 1897 and it died 4 days after it made landfall in America.
Trogluddite Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Good point. And I believe that the gorilla in question was a baby? It is possible that other primates - chimps, orangutans, whatever - were shipped to the US and just known as "gorillas" among the masses. I had started researching the introduction of gorillas into the US, but have misplaced that file.
