Skeptics Turned Believer, And Why?

Cinder blocks are around 30lbs and are 8X8X16. Question I have is>>>what's a cinder block doing out in the middle of nowhere?

When we used to be into backpacking, we found quite a few old house foundations in various woods. I bet it is something like that.

I have no idea precisely what the object was, but it made a splash about like a 50 pound child doing a cannon ball off the high dive less than 10 feet in front of us! Scared the crap out of myself and 15 year old son fishing next to me. The brush line it came from was about 100 feet away. We packed up and left in short order, which is probably what the thrower probably wanted.

Having played a number of competitive sports, I knew this was not something humanly possible. On the other hand, no animal I knew of could do it either. This kind of stuff will continue whether our society believes it or not. Shapes will be seen running across highways, sounds will be heard, eye witnesses will see large creatures in the woods. This is clearly recorded in Native American history and legends. People can say it is a bunch of garbage, but it will not make it go away and will continue to occur producing other witnesses to something they don't understand or can fully explain...some will never tell their story fearing the scorn of some skeptics for doing nothing more than telling the complete truth of what happened to them...

CMU's come in about 100 sizes and shapes. I used to sell them by the truckload.

Midnight Owl - Did you see a cinder block size/shape object hurtle in from the treeline 100' away or just hear the splash?

explain please

DWA more or less nailed it. Just because I know they're real doesn't make me more or less skeptical of new claims. I'd like to take skepticism back from the "skeptics."

I'm skeptical of a lot of things and have been for a long time. I try to look for the simple physical explanation, especially when surrounding what seem to be extraordinary events.

One night while driving, I came upon 2 BF sitting in the road. That changed my perspective on the spot. The first one was over 10 feet tall, and I got within 8 feet of it. Glad I was in my truck too :)

I had lunch with a psychiatrist (sister of a friend of mine) recently (purely a social event....). She was impressed that it was not a hallucination or the like, on account of the fact that I was able to see something in the road, drive up to it, stop, and study it. She pointed out that hallucinations will be in the form of some fleeting event, not something you can pause to study.

These days the fact that I know these things exist means that I have to really be on guard to be even more skeptical else I will be expecting BF everywhere. Its very likely IMO that I will never see one again, but you never know. I certainly was not expecting to see one ever and life has already shown that what life is and what I expect are two very different things.

Whoa. A psychiatrist thinks you had a genuine sighting? That's about the best authenticity marker you can get. (That you told her? Over lunch? Mega whoa.)

I've seen evidence they use cinderblock to hunt. And no, they don't throw them at their prey lol. Here's what I found.

Along side a heavily traveled game trail there is a downed tree about 2 ft in diameter that parallels the trail. The cinderblock is (and still is but the new one is full sized, it was a half size one when first noticed) placed on the other side of the downed tree away from the trail. Once in place the rest is easy. Hide, deer approaches log on trail, spook deer, deer runs and jumps over the downed log, deers leg goes into cinderblock hole, deer leg breaks, dinner time.

I figured since I can't get one to sit still or come out into the open for a photo-op, I'll study their hunting techniques.

I'm still a skeptic. Knowing wood apes are real and being skeptical are not mutually exclusive.

Same here. I don't get why people don't get that.

However, I keep reminding myself that critical thinking is a skill that seems to be discouraged in today's society. Critical thinking isn't just determining that the other party may be mistaken, it is also being willing to admit that you might be mistaken as well.

As a kid, I didn't believe in Bigfoot. Then I saw one, and given the proximity of the creature, and setting it blink, seeing its lips move and curl back into a grimace or maybe even a smile, I couldn't think of anything else it might have been.

Every so often I go over that day in my head, just to be certain that I and my friend really did see the creature that day.

Sal, sorry if this question should get asked somewhere else, but if they were sitting down, how can you know they were 10ft and 8ft tall respectively ?

Suggest you watch this if you think hallucinations are 'some fleeting event'.

Right. Skepticism is essential to scientific advance. It's a scalpel, not a steam shovel, the way bigfoot skeptics use it.

Some of us understand the difference between NAWAC and Georgia Boys; between Meldrum and Biscardi; between Bindernagel and Ketchum.

THAT is skepticism.
