LeafTalker
Hellbilly, great pic! And I agree with Sunflower -- you're rockin'! Doesn't seem like you messed up anything. If the tapping pattern you heard was a copy of your own, I believe that was intentional. I'm guessing he (or she) meant for you to see the connection between the two patterns, so you would understand the taps to be a communication addressed to you, specifically. They do sometimes seem to use rock-clacking to communicate with us. I like to sing for them, and one of the first times I did that, I heard a big burst of clacking when I finished. But I also agree with Sunflower and Branco that they use tapping/rock clacking to talk to each other -- often (exclusively? that I don't know) about us. I've heard it on a few occasions as I was leaving the woods. At those moments, I think the rock clacking was an "all clear" signal. Hellbilly, your tapper might not have been sure how to respond to your "I hear you" (cuz he probably already knew you could -- that's why he was tapping your pattern for you). If you want to try talking again, try something more open-ended, like "Hello" or "How are you?" That might seem more inviting to him (or her). But it sounds like you've got a great thing going! You guys are figuring out your own way to talk to each other. Can't wait for more updates! Also really liked Imonacan's comment that "most [responses] came, when they were not expected, and I had all but given up." It's a waiting game, for sure. And they're not always as predictable as we might like them to be! But that's also why they're so interesting, I think. And TexasTracker, your soft whoops sound great. If they seem calming to you, I bet they seem that way to them, too (and I bet it's much appreciated). Edited January 8, 2014 by LeafTalker
Guest
Thanks for the kind words LT. It's funny that before the tapping started, I was just headed out of the swamp because I didn't think I was gonna get any action. Nobody goes to this place, I check the dirt road for tire tracks and go here about 3-5 times a week because I go and check on my parents who are getting up in age a bit.. They live on edge of the NF and ICW(intercoastal waterway) and less than 5 miles to my area.
LeafTalker
Three to five times a week! That's awesome. And too funny, that you thought you were done for the day, when the tapping started. That sounds like what Imonacan was saying. Hard to know when they're gonna decide, "Okay, it's time to fire off a message to him!"
Guest
Yeah that much... see I have been coming to this area over ten years, I don't hunt. It wasn't til January '13 that I starting to consider the possibility, and it took til August before I saw one. That January I was trail riding in the NF and found a spot where somebody would go on the weekend to party. I would go on Sunday's and clean up the beer cans and trash, drink my coffee and read the Sunday paper. I think they knew all about me before I ever considered them.. LeafTalker
What a great story, Hellbilly!!!! They must have been so happy that you removed all that trash from their living room! And I'm sure you're right, that they've been studying you for years. Wow. Great story.
Guest DWA
FB goes to a place; spends like three days making a lot of noise; does something different every time. Don't watch what FB is doing. Get on the NAWAC research thread and read up on what they're doing. Most of the people doing research in Area X have seen one.
Cotter
@Hellbilly - do you have an account of your sighting typed up on the BFF? Thx.
Sunflower
Hellbilly, Congrats on the communications from the hairy guy. They sometimes appreciate mineral and salt disks. I buy all of the disks that my feedstore has from time to time and I put them in brown paper lunch bags tied with string. All of this then will break down into the soil in time instead of plastics of any kind. The downside is you won't see teeth marks on the containers if they leave them. I do have small raisin boxes opened on one end only which would suggest a hand with a thumb. Raccoons and opposums would chew right through the boxes and not be neat at all. Fruit is always a big hit and I hate to say this but cookies as well, but be stingy with sweets IMO. Peace
Guest zenmonkey
I think it all varies. I've had a few responses from knocks. Human or not. That I'm not sure. The only encounter I think I may of had I just happened. To walk up on one. Hopefully I can be that lucky again
Guest
Ok, so I had some time this after noon and I went to my spot. I started hearing some taps in front of me and taps behind me. They are different from Sunday. After the incident Sunday I wanted to have a way to record audio so I put a voice recorder app on my phone. I want you listen at about 16 seconds and 56 seconds and tell me what you hear. It is not the best recording but was my first attempt. I am a bit low tech right now and am acquiring some gear like a nice Carhartt jacket, and a smaller tent and soon a good recorder. Help!!! its a amr file and won't let me upload
Guest
What file type does it have to be ? Maybe search the net for a file converter
Guest
Cotter, I have not filed a report with anyone as it is ongoing. The past 3 months I have been working a new area as the first one became compromised. Also I listened to the recording I made on the big computer and I don't think it's worth sharing. I was just a bit hyper on my previous post.. sorry IAS, I got lots of saws, drills, air compressors and know how to use em, but I am no techie, and only recently started posting pictures... . I do enjoy some Call of Duty on occasion.
southernyahoo
Do you use similar techniques to the guys on Finding Bigfoot? Do you get similar results? Its getting nearly unbearable to watch the show and see them do the same thing every week and get almost no results, but just keep doing it over and over. I don't get to do any Squatching here near Amarillo, so I have zero experience. I was wondering if this is typical. I would think sooner or later they would do something different. And I don't mean having raves or luaus. Just curious. I used to do more calling, but it does get old, Usually you get the coyotes stirred up and not much else, but have had some interesting responses a time or two. I've heard numerous wood knocks, but very few were in response to one we had done. I think the tactics can generate some curiosity in BF, but the finding bigfoot crew seems to have little time to wait around for the action to happen. I think people get hooked by even one compelling experience using these methods, then want it to happen all the time. You see that when Matt gets stoked on the slightest response to it. Guest
I've tried tree knocking before......nada. I've also done quite abit of varmint calling as well, and while I did not have any luck I think it may hold some promise. I even use cow elk calls in my sets. Smart Squatches! Hmmmmm????? Guest DWA
Um, maybe there were just none in the vicinity. (When I imitate raven calls and I'm good the ravens may actually respond. You can see it; they're saying, shooooooore Roger, I can see you. THIS is what I sound like, dummy.)
