BC witness
This is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, Monday, October 14th being the actual date, so it's lovely fall weather for Sat. and Sun., with rain predicted for Monday. Saturday morning my wife, daughter, and I met MagniAesir and his daughter, as well as Thomas Steenburg, for one of our regular breakfast meets to discuss news in the Sasquatch field, and generally solve all the world's problems over coffee and eggs. There's nothing new to report regarding sightings in our local area, so talk was mostly about the present hunting season, and who had plans to go where. Saturday evening I invited my oldest boy, Steve, to join me on Sunday afternoon for a drive up the Chilliwack River valley to one of the feeder creeks that is a spawning area for the current Coho run, hoping to see lots of fish, and maybe some wildlife coming to feed on the spawners. The road along the main channel of the river was lined with parked cars for most of the 15 km or so to our turn off, with hundreds of fishermen hip deep in the cold water, trying their luck. Our chosen spot is a designated spawning reserve, so we had it pretty much to ourselves, as no fishing is allowed there. We parked a km off the main road, and went for a 2 km walk along the Trans Canada hiking trail, which parallels the creek for quite a distance. We saw quite a few fish, some looking fresh and strong, and some showing the white patches of skin indicating they were nearing the end of their last journey. There were no dead fish littering the banks of the channels yet, so it's still early in the run , and not yet a huge attractant to the local bears and other carrion feeders. Back at my 4x4, we decided to look over the rest of the old logging trails in this creek valley, and followed a couple of the many offshoots to their ends, or as far as I cared to push the truck through the heavy alder scrub along one of them, but other than some great scene5ry, we saw nothing more of interest. We did flush a few grouse, but saw no game bigger than chipmunks. As the sun dropped behind the peaks to our west, and the temperature dropped along with it, we turned around and headed back home for supper, satisfied with our day outdoors in Beautiful BC. 1 1
PNWexplorer
Bought a new expedition rig. I sorely missed my old 4Runner and the places I could go that my Tundra can't. I've always had a love/hate relationship with Jeep Wranglers. I hated how unreliable and expensive they were, but loved the looks and the driving experience. I stopped by a Jeep dealer and found that they were doing massive incentives. I bought a 2024 Wrangler Sport S 4xE hybrid with 3.73 gears, HD Dana 44 axles, and 376hp for nearly $20k under MSRP. I did a bunch of research before buying, and the 4xE was introduced in 2021 to mixed reviews. It has had a bunch of recalls and software issues. The range on the smaller battery is dismal, and the real world mpg is not very impressive. Mine is at around 27mpg. But, it came with the beefy axles, and when I mash the throttle, it will make you smile! I had hoped that the majority of the teething issues would have been addressed three years later, but still opted for the Mopar 77-month total warranty. I negotiated a dealer-installed Mopar 2" lift kit with Bilstein reservoir shocks and am waiting for it to arrive. I have 35" tires and new wheels waiting at Discount tire. New winch bumper and roof rack on the way, and new running boards already installed. I can't wait to get it ready for the Idaho woods and Arizona deserts! Being able to crawl through the woods at night in electric mode might be interesting.
BC witness
Nice rig. Two of the local researchers that I hang out with have 4 dr Wranglers, one of them a Rubicon with all the goodies, but neither are E models. Does yours have locking diffs? I found the rear locker in my old Hummer H3 to be an invaluable option when the trails get really gnarly. The e power mode is interesting in the woods; my daughter and I were in my Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid about 5 years ago, running in e mode while 35 km up the East Harrison FSR, and rolled up to within 15' of a cougar standing in the middle of the road. No rear locker, but one is on the list of mods.

BC witness
Nice. How high was the snow? I got into a little of it on a long road trip on the weekend, at Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass, a bit north of where you were. It was a highway run to Fernie and back, so no backroad searches for hairy guys, but I did see quite a few deer and a small herd of elk along Hwy. 3. Trogluddite
^^ Just moved to the Poconos in northeast PA for retirement. Having gotten to visit the Rockies, Dolomites, and Alps thanks to Uncle Sam, I am embarrassed to add "Mountains" after "Poconos."
