Apparently the best way to save yourself from a moose attack is to simply hide behind a tree. Supposedly with a moose, out of sight, out of mind. Doesn't work for a bear unfortunately.

Unless the moose saw you first and bursts from the brush toward you. Now, you have to make a split-second decision of where to go.  If it's a tree, then be prepared to play ring-around-the-rosie.

So is it a myth then that all you have to do is hide behind a tree? Ungulates are notorious for having really bad eyesight.

I don't think I'd accuse a moose of poor eyesight. They can sure see in the dark better than I can.

I’ve had buddies chased around trees. I would not want to try it.

I have tried that with deer, elk, and coyotes. In nearly every case, once I hide from them, they cam look ing for me. We called it playing cat and mouse.

My experience with moose is that if you retreat, they will let you.
