Thanks for the link RRS, I've read Jerry's article and various other postings regarding her claims. When I say I would like to know what is going on with this lady, it is strictly from a psychological point of view. She seems sincere in her telling of the stories and accounts, but there is a great underlying factor of delusion at play in my opinion. Like Georgerm suggests, there appears to be a muddling of reality and delusion going on with her. She may have actually had some sort of interaction with something, and the only way she can explain it is Bigfoot. For all we know, she could be feeding and interacting with a bunch of homeless people and in her mind they are these creatures. For that matter it could all be in her head. If someone had done an extended observation of the Carter Farm, you would think that even if it were homeless folks, they would eventually show up. I myself am leaning to the delusional side of the coin, rather than an out and out hoax.

You have a good point. There have been recent claims even where a guy was "seeing things" due to a mental condition and was claiming to see bigfoot. This should not be overlooked as far as why some reports occur.

Schizophrenics often actually see, hear, feel things that seem totally real to them. Some schizos have it mild, some more severe.

I'm no doctor, but if I was to make an educated guess about Jan... I might suggest mild schizophrenia. It's a condition usually brought on by bad chemicals in the brain, and can usually be controlled with the right drugs.

I hate to revive an old thread such as this, as I don't wish to perturb anyone, but I am relatively new to the forums, and I have already digested the more current topics. I decided to respond to this particular thread because when I first started researching sasquatch, her claims had me infatuated.

I thought to myslef "now here is a person that can give us exceptionally useful insights into this animal." I read everything I could find that was written by her, and even read every single one of her posts on her forums. The more I read, the more I started to change my opinion.

There are some things that obviously could not be true, as well as things that even she could never find out, even from a sasquatch. Another one of the biggest problems is that with all the researchers that have spent time with her and on her property, not one of them have had an encounter with the creature.

If she truly was as close to this bigfoot family as she claims, I am certain that an investigator would have met or seen one of them by now. I mean, that is logical. It just makes sense.

I will not get into the claims of "psychic-bigfoot," and all of her other "unique" claims. So was there ever any sasqui on her property at all? This is a possibility, but I firmly believe she never "met" them, much less spoke with them, in ANY language. At some point, maybe after a brief sighting, or maybe after reading a book or watching a tv show, she decided to perpetuate this fabrication, for whatever reason, and continues it to this day.

This is a shame in my opinion, as there have been valuable resources wasted. Even if she were telling the truth, the resources were probably still wasted, as the true meat of our knowledge comes from observations by experienced investigators with the know-how to spread their knowledge, and there haven't been any first-hand experiences by these investigators.

So I may be thoroughly incorrect, but it is my opinion that any evidence originating from her cannot be incorporated into further sasquatch research. Now with that said, I also believe that she is a wonderful person, who is very friendly and a loving family woman. Whatever reasons she has for perpetuating her claims, although I believe I have a good idea of what they may be, are her reasons. She is not attempting to force her views and beliefs on anyone, and because of all of these great qualities, I cannot be angry with her even if she has fabricated anecdotal evidence, however I still choose not to use it, despite the fact it may be authentic.

I doubt there would be objections if she was to provide a corpse. Oh wait, of course there would be.

I happened to save some ansewers Jan had for my questions on BFF 1.0 when we had a moderated Q&A thread back in late 2008 I believe. Lets see if this quote works.

Janice,

I would like to know what types of loud, long distance vocalizations you have actually seen the Bigfoot make , or what sorts of sounds you are absolutely certain they do make when they are communicating across great distances (ie; ape sounds, monkey sounds or human sounds. I have a few types I would like you to address if you have heard them.

1. Scream ( like a human female)

This is done deep in the throat and the mouth is open. It is high in pitch and sounds like a siren escalating from a low screech to a high scream to a long drug out low scream. Sort of hard to describe exactly. If you are close it will make your skin crawl with hives. It could break glass I think. I have not tested that but I mean it is loud. This is usually a female making this sound as the males are even louder but they have a deeper voice.

2. Deep long howl

Male: same as above but this usually stops before it reaches a high pitch it is more of a baritone. This type howl usually (comes from the diaphragm deep and could almost be taken for a growl.

3. Child-like cry ( baby crying sounds)

Mother: calling to her child. this can sound like a baby crying almost non stop, or a meowing type crying, or even a gasping crying sounds of a child.

4. Whooping ( like a gibbon or other nonhuman primate)

Either sex: A lot of people mistake this for a whoop or a owl call. It isn't and I am so glad you ask about this. This is nothing more than their way of saying the word Who in English trying to get our attention. It will start out as WhoWhoWho Whoooo Or a long carried out Whoooo. They simply wish to know who you are. Tell them your name.

(

All right moderators, if I mess up here and should not mention this names or this type stuff.)

Ron and Allen did some excellent recording on the Sierra Sounds recordings. If you will get the second CD where Ron is narrating I wish for you to please listen to track one. Right after Ron says there are two of them across the creek. the female comes on and yells in a singing type voice "I want some of that" Then the male Biggy: comes in right behind here with a Whoo Whoo Whoo, Who are ya (you) All?"

I am using this as an educational tool here to help others understand what the bigfoot say and sound like in English when they speak to us, It is fully understood that all copyrights to the recordings are those of Ron's and Allen's. I the copyrights to my translations are mine, but I want to share them with the public for educational reasons only. I am not a linguist nor a specialist or scientist that can step forward and take credit for this ans be taken seriously. That is what it will take for Ron and Allen, but I can sit down with a specialist and tell them how to understand this.

5. Mimic other animals ( which animals)

All can mimic different animals pretty well. The twittery bird sound is done at the back of the throat. They can mimic all kinds or animal, and this is done in different ways. However they sound pretty funny when they forget which animal they are suppose to be mimicking and turn a rooster into a donkey braying. And I do not know many deer that climb 30 foot pine trees to the top most branches.

Thank you,

southern yahoo

Janice,

In my previous post #30, I asked what long distance vocals you had seen the bigfoot make. From the list I provided , could you state as fact that you have seen the bigfoot make all of those? please feel free to add to that list if it is incomplete.

Thank you

southernyahoo

(List Referred To Added By moregon)

1. Scream ( like a human female)

2. Deep long howl

3. Child-like cry ( baby crying sounds)

4. Whooping ( like a gibbon or other nonhuman primate)

5. Mimic other animals

Yes I have seen with my own eyes all of the sounds above that I answered your questions to. They also can make clicking sounds and grunting sounds that come from the back of their throats. When they talk the sound is not actually formed in the mouth like we do but in the back of the throat. They do not pronounce their T's at all and it sounds like awk instead of a T sound because they do not touch their tongue to their teeth. Their larynx is lower than our own thus limiting their ability to pronounce words the same as we do.

Thank you,

Jan

Next question is from "Southernyahoo":

Your book mentions and shows some trees that have been broken down, could you describe any particulars about those ,like the manner it was done and what types of trees they were?

They were mostly pine and cedar saplings that the tops were twisted out of. The larger trees include pine, cedar, oak and maple, with very few poplar. They uproot the larger trees or break them off at the base depending on the size. They push against them with their entire body weight sometimes more than one will help with the pushing. They can pull up a sapling with their hands no problem.

Thank you,

Jan

One thing i remember about her is she did some homework on all the Native cultures, the Sasquatch stories and sightings, some of the stuff she came up with was very good and for a while had folks going, i used to talk with her on the old BlogTalk shows chat room, she was a blast with her answers, we once talked about putting those see n say kids toys in the woods for the BF to play with, she explained their hands were to big to pull the cord so you have to tie on a larger one, she talked like those BF were her children and was very good at it.

Of course we all know it was fantasy but man what a ride that was when it came out.

Ok, please forgive me for opening this can of worms:

Logically, while it may be justifiable to classify a mentally ill person as someone with impaired credibility, it is not possible to automatically dismiss them as being wholly without credibility.

I agree with you. I've heard them make four of the five sounds she describes and much of the observed behavior she relates is consistent. I think she did have the opportunity to observe a family group over an extended period of time, but I question her claims regarding speech and language, not because I discount the capability, but because her claims regarding this have been brought into question through her own actions.

Unfortunately, once part of her information has been impeached, the rest becomes suspect. I suspect that someday down the road, post-recognition, others will confirm similar behavioral observations regarding feeding behavior, family group behavior, and interactions.

Who knows Janice may have had activity early on maybe the bigguy was coming to her door for more then just garlic we will never know it's just a story

like 95% of all BF so called evidence.

Some stories have evidence with it, and do correspond to her statements.

this one for example.

Either sex: A lot of people mistake this for a whoop or a owl call. It isn't and I am so glad you ask about this. This is nothing more than their way of saying the word Who in English trying to get our attention. It will start out as WhoWhoWho Whoooo Or a long carried out Whoooo. I recorded this 2 years before we had this conversation.

streetman-whoop.wav

Most people that listen to this call say it sounds like a person, though the circumstances says to me it is something that lives in the woods.:) If I had known at the time what I "suspect" now, I might have shouted my name.

Here's another one, some say human female, some say owl. See if it sounds like the phrase "who are you". Like a female opera singer near the top of their range.

This also recorded a year and a half before her statement.

sherb-scream-wav.wav

Makes you think a little bit doesn't it?

I suppose there is always the possibility she was repeating information given to her, does she have any connection with the Native culture at all? A little exponential living? Hearing a good account, then embellishing and rewriting herself into the story?

Posted

Janice did claim to have native blood and speak a native language, can't recall which tribe, Cherokee maybe. She pretty much spoke of every detail there is to be said about bigfoot in her book. Many of her claims were not as well received at the time the book was released as they are now. She wasn't exactly aiming for credibility amoung old school footers thats for sure. As time has gone by though, I reflect on the many details, and check them off the list as I find corroboration, be it her story or someone elses.

I have to ask and please ! i do not mean any disrespect, Are you guys taking a peek back and possibly buying this old Tale or just reminiscing some details ?
