hiflier Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 GPS collars for bears last three years and use standard VHF frequencies. Can't see anyone needing one to last that long so a smaller one could be considered. Say, maybe with a battery that lasts 6 mos. to a year? Trail cams can last that long. So a small 12v battery might do it. FYI- Bear tracking apps are available for iPhones etc.

Yeah, another example of existing technology. It's a step up in cost (about $3K) but certainly affordable for a research project looking to try to track a BF. 1
hiflier Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 (edited) A researcher would easily spend that on personal equipment (including guns) and tech alone- and has......times.....how many field research investigators just here on the BFF? It's why I said money, time, and focus has been misdirected. Not all, but most. Science gets so easily sidestepped but science is the answer and directing resources collectively at science is the correct path to be on. Edited January 31, 2021 by hiflier
