You're absolutely right. There is an element of pure, unadulterated luck in all that we do.  Being there at the right time of right place is part work and also part chance.  A friend of mine that I grew up with was like that.  I would pull into a busy parking lot and wouldn't want to drive around forever so I'd park a mile away. He would pull into it, go to the front and, viola, someone in the closest spot would be leaving.

 

To quote Lefty Gomez, Hall of Fame pitcher, "I'd rather be lucky than good."

LOL! Yeah, we all have a guy like that in our lives. My bet is that Roger Patterson was like that........along with being like Sam Goldwyn, who made things happen with aggressive, positive action. Personally, I can be happy being like Laverty; spending quality time in the field and immediately following up on a top notch event, complete with photographing the evidence myself.
