VAfooter Posted November 5, 2022 Admin Share Posted November 5, 2022 Stalked! - My Encounter with a Colorado Bigfoot, Brad Morris I picked up this book over the summer due to my interest in Colorado BF. It is a short read, only 123 pages. The book details a 1986 solo hiking trip the author makes into the San Juan mountains in SW Colorado and his encounter with a Bigfoot there. Morris rides the train from Durango up to Needleton, and then hikes up to the Chicago Basin from there. While camping in the Basin, he sees a Bigfoot near his campsite. While the Bigfoot does not bother him, Morris is a bit un-nerved by the sighting and it impacts the rest of his stay. He ends up in a dangerous situation and a very unlikely ending occurs. No spoilers here... Overall, a pretty good book. The BF encounter(s) is really only a small portion of the book. A lot of it deals with the adventures and dangers of solo hiking. I would recommend it, especially if you like stories of outdoor adventure. All in all, I would give it 4.5 stars. https://www.amazon.com/Stalked-My-Encounter-Colorado-Bigfoot/dp/1503082350/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1667611299&sr=8-1
Explorer
I was curious about this book because I backpacked the Weminuche Wilderness back in 2010. Like the author, I took the Durango to Silverton train and exited at Needleton to hike up to Chicago Basin via the Needle Creek Trail. However, instead of returning the same route, we did ~40 mile loop and picked up the train further north at Elk Park. This is probably one of the best backpacking trips that I have done in my life. While it rained/stormed a few days, the views, creeks, lakes, and mountain passes were spectacular. Chicago Basin in August is full of backpackers who want to climb the fourteeners. That is one reason we did the loop and left that area on day 2. We did not see anyone after Chicago Basin, but Chicago basin was full of campers. While I think the author has been there, I think this is a work of fiction.
