VAfooter Posted November 5, 2022 Admin Share Posted November 5, 2022 Beasts Between The Rivers, Martin Groves This is the true account of a couple of men who encounter a group of Dogmen in the Land Between The Lake recreation area in Kentucky. A short book, only 68 pages long, it makes up for its brevity with a fascinating story. Martin and his friend, Harry, were both law enforcement officers. They embarked on a spring hunting trip in the 1990's for turkey. What happened that during this trip would change their lives forever. They found a remote place to camp and set up their tent there, ate, and went to bed that night. The next day they got up headed out to hunt, each man going a different direction. As Martin is traveling to his hunting spot, he runs into a bow hunter and makes a new friend. Martin continues on to his spot and hunted the rest of the day. As he is walking back to his camp, everything turns still and quiet. He then hears a metallic clang off in the woods. Then a shrill whistle. Then something is pacing him off to his side on the ridgeline. Eventually, Martin see what he believes is another hunter hiding behind a tree. Martin waves and the "hunter" disappears into the woods. Martin again hears the metallic noise. Now dark, Martin makes it back to camp where Harry is waiting for him and has a fire going. At this point Martin and Harry encounter multiple creatures and barely escape. Not exactly giving anything away here since he survived to write the book. The rest of the book deals with the aftermath of the event. Excellent story telling with a simple, down home feel, and even though a short book it will keep you on the edge of your seat. As an added bonus, there are color pictures in the book, something one does not usually find in a book this short. I give it 5 stars. A must have if you are the least bit interested in Dogmen and/or the LBL.
