Guest habber
For those not familiar with him, his show is one of Discovery Channel's highest rated non-fiction, non documentary productions. http://www.youtube.com/watch%3fv=7y5aO5XdgT0 Edited to repair broken link. Chris B. This thread's title is misleading, he said he heard something, no sighting.....
Guest
Survivorman has always been a welcome relief to me- in comparison with the uber popular "Man =vs= Red Roof Inn, oops i mean Wild" show.... Lay off Bear lol, I admire Stroud but in a life or death situation, as a Marine myself I think I will opt for the SAS Commando if I had my druthers about it. Guest D B Cooper
Les Stroud is a true and skilled survivalist. He gives you the basics to live, unlike "Extreme Dude" Bear Grylls who accomplishes nothing more than to appeal to the Hot Dogger Skate Board crowd. If he were left on his own to survive with the methods he demonstrates, his remains would be found where he was dropped off when the snow melted. Les Stroud's credo is Do Not get injured, if you do you will die. Grylls is a broken leg waiting to happen. How many times has he been choppered out ("Failed to survive") due to injuries incurred by his Rat on Acid technique? I also like Cody Lundin and Dave Canterbury on "Dual Survival". Their skills and techniques differ, but they compliment each other in their separate abilities. And are , IMO, as genuine in their own right as Les Stroud. If I were stranded in a survival situation with Grylls, my first assurance of surviving would be to beat him to death with a rock. Guest vilnoori
Grylls is a broken leg waiting to happen. Yes, I totally agree. But then real survivalism doesn't necessarily make great tv. Edited September 20, 2011 by vilnoori
Guest D B Cooper
"But then real survivalism doesn't necessarily make great tv." I watch to learn how to survive. I agree, they can get better ratings from the "Extreme" run like an idiot through the woods, but it doesn't work in the real world. Les Stroud , Dave Canterbury and Cody Lundin all rightfully stress conserving calories if you want to live. Slow down, and save what you can, until you can replenish them. And above all, don't get sweaty because it can lead to hypothermia. If Grylls actually tried to survive using the techniques he demonstrates, he wouldn't last long. Even if he didn't injure himself otherwise. Edited September 20, 2011 by D B Cooper

It's just a matter of time before he pays the piper somehow or another. He's lucky he hasn't already died. I know he broke his back jumping off a cliff into shallow water once. Bear's Greatest Injuries So many injuries, we just couldn't fit them in our normal Top Ten list ... chrushed shoulder sliced finger broken elbow smashed knee cartilage broken big toe badly infected big toe extreme sunburn frostnip in one whole foot and six fingers chipped shin bone more cuts and bruises than you can shake a long stick at ear infections diarrhea vomiting cracked rib dislocated hip dislocated T-8 disc whiplash stitches heat stroke chipped teeth bites by snakes, bats, scorpions, crabs and around 4,319 mosquitoes! Wiki He was the youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest, doing so at age 23. In July 2009, Grylls was appointed the youngest ever Chief Scout at the age of 35. In 1996, he suffered a freefall parachuting accident in Zambia His canopy ripped at 4,900 metres (16,000 ft), partially opening, causing him to fall and land on his parachute pack on his back, which partially crushed three vertebrae. Grylls later said: "I should have cut the main parachute and gone to the reserve but thought there was time to resolve the problem". According to his surgeon, Grylls came "within a whisker" of being paralysed for life and at first it was questionable whether he would ever walk again. Grylls spent the next 18 months in and out of military rehabilitation at Headley Court before being discharged and directing his efforts into trying to get well enough to fulfil his childhood dream of climbing Mount Everest. Guest
So with all those injuries, is he more of a man than Les? Les is extremely capable and I love his show, I like Dual Survival as well, but remember Bear is showing you Worse Case Scenario. Maybe I am biased but during my career I spent 9 years as scout skier with and Arctic Infantry Marine Rifle Company, I have attended the U.S Marine Corps Cold Weather Survival Course, The Winter Mountain Operations Course, Summer Mountain Operations Course, Sniper Sustainment Training (Where in fact I had my first Sasquatch sighting while spending 14 days alone in the Sierras in summer), Assault Climbers Course, Tactical Rope Suspension Technician Certification, Animal Packing Course, Weapons Company Core Extension Package, Swift Water Rescue Course, Mountain Communications Course, Mountain Motor Transport Course, Mountain Engineer Course, and Recon Sustainment Training in Bridgeport Ca. Jungle Warfare Training center Okinawa, Japan and Basilan Island, Philippines not to mention deployment including 16 months in Afcrapistan. I have learned something through all of that...I think anyway. If I want to LIVE in whatever place I am stranded in Les, or Cody and Dave would be my choice. But If I was willing to risk it all to get out of there I would once again go with the Soldier who endured THE most grueling special forces selection process in the world and put it all on the line serving his country and nearly lost. If I was needing entertainment and wanted to hear blues harmonica or be regaled with stories of how cool it was to produce Corey Hart and Rush videos in the 80's Les would be my guy, hands down. But then again, I am biased : ) Edited September 21, 2011 by Tautriadelta
Guest Biggie
Dave was in the Army if I remember right but I can't remember what all he did. Hawk was in the special forces and mentioned on his last show that they were deployed in the Amazon jungle to take out a drug pen and they took heavy fire where he lost one of his good friends. They both seem competent enough to fight if need be and get one back to safety.
Guest
he talked about this briefly on his top ten show last night. He was in Alaska and he was making a bed out of leaves or whatever with the camera turned off and he heard a sound that he said was like a great ape. He said it was no moose or bear. He imitated the sound and said the animal made the noise 4 or 5 times and when he reached for the camera it crashed off thru the trees. He did not see anything but was going to try to at least get an audio recording but as soon as he moved it left.
Rockape
Yep, saw that last night also. Survivorman is a favorite of mine. One of the more credible reports in my opinion. Scared him pretty good too.
norseman Posted September 17, 2012 Admin Share Posted September 17, 2012 Fan base expansion commencing in 3 . . . 2 . . .1 I disagree. Les unlike many "survival" show hosts, isn't in it for the hype. He is a true student of the wilderness and is honest and trustworthy.... If he heard something strange? He heard something strange.
