I wouldn't say its all fake, they are trying to make a show. I wouldn't do many things he or any others do, I just think its the most exciting. I'm sure they all ham it up a bit.

Grylls show is all fake. I caught him in an outright lie, and posted the pictures on his own forum to call him out on it. His claim of being "miles from any road in the wilderness" was bogus, when a particular screen shot perfectly overlayed a photo I took from the Stoddard Creek trailhead in Central Idaho. His camera man was standing on the Forest Service road when he was shooting footage.

Of course deception is one thing..........bad information concerning impressionable minds is wholly another. Following Bear's advice about ANY survival situation is a good way of making your situation go from bad to worse. You don't run down cliffs after seeing a grizzly bear track. You don't jump off ravines into class 5 rapids. You don't bite the head off of a snake..........etc, etc, etc.

And lastly...........evidently he needs five star hotel accomodations and fresh blue berry pancakes after a tough day of filming garbage in the back country.

By the way! Ray Mears is the real deal!

Ha! Were you the one who "busted him"? Because the show went off the air for a awhile and they admitted he has some help and many things are staged. They now have a disclaimer at the start of the show.

As others have said, I'm sure they all embellish a bit. The Dual Survival show has a similar disclaimer at the start of thier show. I don't care for Bear Grylls but do like the Dual Survival guys. I even heard Cody Lundeen make a reference to Bigfoot once. Not that he's seen one or anythng like that, it was something along the lines of "out here sleeping with Bigfoot", but I suspect he's a believer and would like to hear if both he and the other guy have any BF stories.

Survivorman is by far my favorite. He does go it alone for ten days with no real help. Still, I'm pretty sure insurance requires him to have a tracking device or something. And you see overhead shots sometimes that are obviously taken with an airplane or chopper. I have a feeling there is a crew that keeps a close watch on him.

I've seen every episode of Survivorman, some several times, and in one they made no secret he had some help. It was the show where he was adrift in a life raft in the open sea, a storm came up and the crew put him on their boat because they were afraid he was in real danger. He said so and it wasn't hidden, you saw it on the show. That's the only time though I think he's had help.

I see no problem if there is a crew keeping a close watch on him. We all know he's making a television show and there is no need in dying for that. I don't see it as being dishonest and again, I'm pretty sure it would be a requirement of the insurance.

I've never heard of Ray Mears that I can remember. It said something about him being a "TV survival expert". Is he on the BBC?

I enjoy the show and watching him go through the trials and tribulations of being alone in some god forsaken place. But what is his second encounter? He mentions he had two encounters in an earlier interview. Has anyone heard the second encounter?

Yep. Ray Mears is English, and regularly on the BBC.

Sure, but he lost the skeptical fans so it evens out.

I've heard he said something, but I've never actually listened to it, still haven't even with the above link. I'm skeptical and have been a long time fan of his. Hasn't lost this skeptical fan yet; although seeing all the Les Stroud/Survivorman endorsed stuff at a big-box outdoor store recently did knock him down a peg in my "fandom".

He's a respected outdoorsman, and has described something strange he experienced once in Alaska. He didn't say "it's a Bigfoot", he didn't even see anything. Why not take a listen and see what he experienced? What can it hurt?

Oh, it's just not interesting to me that he had a strange experience, no biggie.

What a strange response. You have no interest in the fact that he had a strange experience and no interest in hearing him describe it, but you are interested in posting about what it definitely isn't on the Bigfoot Forums?

Good catch, he did say he had two experiences. I'd like to hear the other one as well.

Oh, and thanks MikeG.

My appreciation for what he does is independent of Bigfoot. They are not connected and have no relation; therefore his encounter doesn't hold interest for me. I'm not sure what you mean by saying what it's not. If it's the "no biggie" comment, that was to mean no big deal.

Ray Mears is one of my favorite survival guy......

Here is a simple axe review:

Notice he is not trying to Rambo with the axe........he is giving you fatherly safety tips as well as advice on the proper use of a tool..........that's it. (And I don't agree with all of his advice........but for a novice? It totally makes sense.)

And I have no idea if I'm "the guy"..........but I'm certainly a person that brought absolute proof onto his forum about their deception and posted it for all the world to see. They could not have chosen a worse mountain to film........my picture showed the mountain AND the forest service road they were standing on to film the "wilderness". My thread seems to be long gone on here:

http://community.discovery.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/7351909639/p/6

And from watching his latest shows it doesn't really seem like they took much to heart. And that is what makes people like Cody Lundin and Les Stroud cool people........is because they are down to earth, not in it for the lime light and have a bona fide message they are trying to get out to the masses. I've emailed Cody Lundin and his response was prompt and not a form letter at all, he was taking the time to write me back, and I do not doubt that he would do that for anyone. If I had the money I would definitely go to one of Cody's schools.......the man is a master of fire making after all.

@ norseman

You might have been the one who got the ball rolling about Bear Grylls. I saw just the other day where he has been fired by Discovery for refusing to participate in some specials they are filming.

Totally agree about Cody Lundin. The guy walks the walk. He's lived it most of his adult life, not just something he does occasionally for a TV show. Any guy who will dig seeds from Elephant dung and then eat them has my respect. And he's definatly a firemaster, as even his partner on the show is impressed with. He would certainly be a good one to learn from. With his skills he can go into the wilderness with nothing but the shirt on his back and make it back out. The Dual Survivor show is a good contrast of style between he and Dave Canterbury. Lundin is more the Survivorman slow and steady approach while Canterbury has more of the Bear Grylls take chances style. Makes for good entertainment.

I've heard Cody make a couple of references to bigfoot, just off the cuff remarks. It would be interesting to know if he has had any experiences with them.
