  1. I've found lots of moose and caribou carcasses over the years, but not a single bear, wolf, lynx, fox, or other predator. I know a guy who shot a grizzly bear late one September. He and his partner waited for 3 days watching a moose gut pile from 1/2 mile away that yet another friend killed. They woke ob the 4th morning to find the bear laying on the buried pile. They snuck up to him and shot him. Upon examination, they found the hide ruined. ADFG had put a "breakaway" collar on it when it was a cub, and it never broke away. It had dug into its flesh. It was a small collar embedded in the flesh of a huge neck. They were pissed off, and just left the whole thing lay. During the following winter my friend regretted leaving it, realizing that they should have at least taken the skull. The next summer he went back. He found the skull and a few bones, but nothing else. He said that had he not known where it was left, he and nobody else would have ever found it.
