Unfortunately, this article is very typical of early reports, which were often brief, non-descriptive, and published in a paper located far from where the events occurred.  This article was published in the York (PA) Democratic Press on August 5, 1842. 

 

 

The Litchfield (CT) Enquirer took the opportunity to poke fun at a politician.
